Dr. Eric Lang, world-leading behavioral science and insider prevention expert, joins SRI Advisory Board

Dr. Eric Lang joins Swedish personnel security and insider prevention company Scandinavian Recruitment Intelligence, SRI, as Advisory Board member.
STOCKHOLM, STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN, May 27, 2025 / EINPresswire.com / -- Swedish personnel security company SRI, with a clear vision of enhancing the safety and security of Swedish workplaces, the Nation, and international partners who depend on Sweden, has in recent years focused significant resources on raising awareness and educating Swedish employers about insider threats. As part of this focus, the company has collaborated with Dr. Eric Lang from the United States.
Dr. Lang is a world-leading authority and expert in the behavioral and social sciences, and insider prevention. Dr. Lang is responsible for research studies and tools that are now used by governmental and private sector security functions worldwide.
With the aim of becoming a leading player in security culture and insider prevention that supports both Swedish and foreign operations, the collaboration with Dr. Lang has now been expanded as SRI welcomes Dr. Lang to its Advisory Board.
The need for knowledge and tools in this area is also expected to increase in the coming years, as the prevailing geo- and security policy factors have caused the situation and threat landscape to deteriorate rapidly in recent years, which has led to an increased insider threat in Sweden and throughout Europe.
Dr. Lang is a social psychologist with over 35 years of experience improving organisational effectiveness, fairness, security, and well-being through science-based policy recommendations and best-practice tools. Dr. Lang has led multiple research groups and is best known for his many years as Director of the Personnel and Security Research Center (PERSEREC) – a research arm of the U.S. Department of Defense. In 2025, Dr. Lang chose to retire from government service and return to his private sector roots (e.g., he spent over 10 years as an applied scientist and leader in small and big businesses, and a 'think tank'), and now joins SRI.
Dr. Lang remarked: 'Malicious and unintentional Insider Risks are increasing in Sweden and across the world. From the smallest businesses to the largest governments, organizations increasingly experience loss and compromise of intellectual property, sensitive data, staff and facility safety, and financial resources, as well as downstream consequences such as increased organizational stress, employee attrition, and decreased trust among partners and customers. Technological tools are necessary but not sufficient.
The greatest gaps and opportunities in Insider Threat management center on human factors and organizational culture issues. Research-based social science insights, practices, and tools continue to be misunderstood and underutilized by most organizations.
SRI leadership and staff understand these needs deeply. Their activities, reports, and tools—such as SRI's annual Summit, Annual Insider Review, and Prisma software—demonstrate skill and commitment to support their customers, partners, and Nation. I am grateful and excited at the opportunity to collaborate more extensively with SRI on this critical mission.'
Dr. Lang has collaborated with SRI in various ways over the past few years, most recently at the company's 2024 annual security conference, SRI Summit, where he gave an acclaimed keynote presentation centred, in part, on his 'Seven Science-Based Commandments' journal article which is considered by many to be a foundational publication in the Insider Threat field.
Dr. Lang is often consulted to help leaders and security professionals understand and manage security, organisational culture, and psychological issues related to insider risk.
At SRI, Dr. Lang will join the company's Advisory board and, through it, contribute with his vast knowledge and experience. SRI's Advisory Board consists of Stefan Kristiansson, former head of the Swedish Military Intelligence and Security Service (Must), Therese Mattsson, former Director General of the Coast Guard and the Director General at the Swedish Customs Administration, and Joakim Paasikivi – a well-known name to many. Joakim has, among other things, served as a military strategy professor at the Swedish Defence University and held positions within Must.
Pierre Gudmundson, Personnel Security Specialist and Head of Insider Prevention at SRI said: 'Eric Lang's deep knowledge and impressive experience of research and work at the absolute cutting edge of the U.S. Security Service in applying personnel-related research in counterintelligence is invaluable to us. With Eric's help, we will be able to quickly take big and important steps to help many employers in both Sweden and around the world to create safer workplaces and preventively and systematically prevent insider problems from arising.'
Anders Selvehed, CEO of SRI, said: 'For us at SRI, it is extremely flattering that Dr. Lang, a world-leading authority in this field, chooses to join our Advisory Board and make his expertise available to us and our clients. Our aim is to become a leader in Sweden, the Nordics and Europe in the insider prevention segment. We have already developed our own security culture enhancing- and insider prevention program that is appreciated by Swedish employers, our own Annual Review on insiders, as well as training and lectures in insider prevention. With Dr. Lang's help, we will be able to support clients with specific needs in this area in an even better way.'

NATO Scrambles Fighter Jets To Intercept Russian Bombers

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Sweden scrambled military aircraft in response to Russian fighter jets spotted over the southern parts of the Baltic Sea. Swedish Armed forces spokesperson Mikael Ågren said two JAS Gripen planes were deployed over Skåne and Malmö in response to the Russian aircraft which did not violate the airspace of NATO's newest member. The incident follows a series of Russian aircraft spotted flying in the region during NATO military exercises over the last two weeks and a warning by German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul of further operations by Moscow to destabilize the region. Newsweek has contacted the Russian defense ministry and the Swedish Armed Forces for comment. This image from on April 8, 2025 a Swedish Air Force Saab JAS 39 Gripen jet fighter lands during the NATO's Ramstein Flag 2025 exercise at Leeuwarden Air Base. JOHN THYS//Getty Images Why It Matters With Sweden's accession to the alliance, the Baltic Sea is dubbed a NATO Lake where members of the bloc surrounding the waters have reported a spike in Russian military activity. Sweden's deployment of aircraft is the latest sign of tensions in the Baltic region. What To Know Ågren said that Sweden's military deployed two JAS Gripen planes over Skåne and Malmö at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. He said the operation was not part of a scheduled exercise and during a regular patrol by Swedish forces near the borders, Russian Sukhoi Su-30 planes were detected in international airspace. Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet said it had received calls from readers who had seen three Swedish fighter planes over the Stockholm region. Ågren said that there had been increased activity in the region and sightings of military aircraft over the Baltic Sea have become more frequent in recent weeks. But he said people should not be concerned is they hear Swedish planes in the sky because "it's the sound of freedom you hear." The incident comes as NATO's Baltops-25 exercises were coming to an end in the Baltic region which involved over 40 ships, 25 aircraft and approximately 9,000 personnel. During this period, there was a spike in Russian military flights operating close to NATO airspace and U.K. Royal Air Force Typhoon jets based in Poland were scrambled six times in as many days in response. Meanwhile, video posted on social media showed a Russian Sukhoi Su-24 fighter jet releasing flares over a U.S. Navy ship in international waters in the region. What People Are Saying Swedish Armed forces spokesperson Mikael Ågren: "It's a signal to show that we've seen them and that we're on our toes, even on Midsummer's we do, we do for the sake of freedom. "We need to keep track of which aircraft are in our vicinity, and then we need to go up and identify them sometimes. Today we did that and even got pictures of them." German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul: "These hybrid operations and military provocations are dangerous. They are designed to destabilize our societies and to test our ability to respond." What Happens Next Wadephul warned on Friday that the Baltic Sea region is becoming a dangerous hotspot where Russia's aggressive hybrid activities "are undermining our peace and security". In anticipation of further Russian operations in the region, NATO announced in January the launch of Baltic Sentry to bolster the alliance's military presence in the Baltic Sea.

Veidekke and subsidiary secure $105m Swedish defence facility project

Scandinavian contractor Veidekke and its subsidiary Veitech have received a contract to undertake construction and installation work for one of the Swedish Fortifications Agency's facilities in eastern Sweden. The Skr1bn ($105.2m) contract is to be registered in the company's order book for the second quarter of 2025 (Q2 2025). This project will begin production in Q2, with completion due by the first quarter of 2028. Veitech focuses on installation and related technology for buildings and civil engineering structures. The Swedish Fortifications Agency is responsible for the ownership, development, and management of properties that are integral to the national defence system. Veidekke operates in the construction sector while also engaging in road maintenance and the production of asphalt and aggregates. The company has an annual turnover of around Nkr41bn ($4.1bn) and a workforce of 8,000, half of whom are shareholders. Veidekke was awarded another contract last month by Statsbygg for the establishment of the new Institute of Materials Science and Engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim. Spanning 13,200m² over ten floors, the facility will become a hub for over 200 NTNU employees, SINTEF Industri, external partners, and more than 300 students. Earlier this year, Veidekke secured a contract from the Swedish Transport Administration for the reconstruction of the Muggebo-Tjos section of the E20 road past Mariestad. This project entails rebuilding a 12km stretch of the E20 and adding a new bypass around Mariestad, with an expected completion date in late 2028. "Veidekke and subsidiary secure $105m Swedish defence facility project" was originally created and published by World Construction Network, a GlobalData owned brand.
