Sheikh Sultan reviews expansion plans for University of Al Dhaid projects
His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and President of University of Al Dhaid, praised the efforts of the university's Board of Trustees for their achievements in the previous period.
Sheikh Sultan noted that many institutions begin agricultural science and food security projects but face challenges such as the lack of facilities that support academic studies.
As a result, students receive only theoretical education and have to pursue practical experience abroad.
This came during Sheikh Sultan's chairing of University of Al Dhaid Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday morning at the university's headquarters.
He added that University of Al Dhaid provides all the necessary resources to equip students both theoretically and practically.
This is achieved through specialised colleges and programmes, including the College of Agriculture and the College of Veterinary Medicine, as well as facilities that support the educational process, such as laboratories, farms, and animal pens.
The President of University of Al Dhaid affirmed that these steps have significantly contributed to the production of organic products free from artificial substances and chemicals in the markets.
Examples include Mleiha dairy, GHERAS products, and Sabaa Sanabel wheat, among others. Sharjah Ruler expressed pride that these products are from the United Arab Emirates, specifically from the Emirate of Sharjah.
Sheikh Sultan revealed that he began collecting seeds in 1973, categorising the seeds he gathered, which included those from extinct plants in the deserts of the country.

He established a seed bank to preserve plant species and their genetic diversity for the future, which contains approximately 5 million seeds. He noted that such seeds are also stored in reserve in the UK.
The Ruler of Sharjah approved the relocation of the seed bank to be part of University of Al Dhaid facilities, aiming to enhance scientific research, laboratory capabilities, and improve the skills of agriculture students through practical training.
The meeting of University of Al Dhaid Board of Trustees began with the approval of the establishment of two new colleges within the academic framework: the College of Computing and Intelligent Systems, and the College of Environmental Sciences.
This expansion aligns with the demand for modern specialisations that meet labor market needs and support sustainable development and artificial intelligence initiatives.
Additionally, the board approved the launch of a dual degree programme in Sustainable Agriculture in collaboration with the Royal Agricultural College in the UK, which will help prepare qualified personnel in food security and modern agriculture.
The board approved the results of reports from the financial, academic, internal audit, compliance, and resource development committees, reflecting their activities over the past period, along with monitoring the progress of the educational, research, and administrative processes.

During the Board of Trustees meeting, the President of University of Al Dhaid, visited the student lounges for both male and female students, where he met with a group of female students.

Sultan chairs meeting on higher education strategy
His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, chaired the second meeting of the permanent executive committee of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research (SCHESR) on Tuesday morning at the University City. Sheikh Sultan welcomed the committee members and emphasised the council's role in the coming years, following his directives to correct administrative concepts, improve university governance, and implement strategic planning. The committee discussed various topics and future plans, including the council's work report, organisational structure, strategy, subcommittees, academic staff promotion and evaluation criteria, as well as research and innovation affairs. The committee also reviewed university admission conditions, the diversity of academic programmes, and main and specialised fields to ensure they meet labour market demands and students' interests. Sheikh Sultan approved the preliminary budget for the remaining period of the year, amounting to Dhs18 million, alongside endorsing the council's new logo and headquarters at the University City. He directed the committee to oversee scholarship affairs in Sharjah's higher education institutions, adopting governance frameworks and coordinating between universities and scholarship providers—governmental, semi-governmental, and private. New scholarship standards for postgraduate studies were approved, similar to those for bachelor's degrees. Sharjah students registered with the emirate and with a monthly income below Dhs50,000 will receive full scholarships, while those with higher incomes will benefit from 50% fee grants. Full scholarships will continue for groups such as children of imams and students with disabilities, funded by the Emiri Diwan. Universities and academies will offer special discounts to other categories like high achievers in academics, sports, research, and other fields. He highlighted the importance of the SCHESR, which was established specifically to assist universities and academies in the emirate in continuing the journey of higher education, which began in 1997 with the establishment of the University of Sharjah and the American University of Sharjah. Khalifa University a leading research institution: Khaled
Under the patronage of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has attended the Khalifa University 2025 graduation ceremony, held at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi. In all, 163 students received their PhD degrees, while 193 received their master's, and a total of 725 students received their bachelor's degrees, making the overall numbers 1,112, including 31 PhDs in medicine graduates. Sheikh Khaled congratulated the graduates and their families on passing this educational stage, wishing them continued success in their professional and scientific careers, and in the service of their homelands and societies in various fields. He reaffirmed that the graduation of a new cohort of students from Khalifa University, specialised in engineering, science, and medicine, reflects the UAE's commitment to preparing a generation of scientifically and academically qualified talent capable of meeting the needs of crucial sectors in advanced engineering, technology, medicine, and health sciences. The Petroleum Engineering programme has risen to the 7th place maintaining its position in the global top 10 for three consecutive years. Earlier, Khalifa University and Green Waste Solutions Trading DMCC made significant strides in addressing water scarcity through innovative and scalable technologies. Khalifa University developed a solar-powered thermal distillation device that produces freshwater from seawater without generating brine. The system uses sunlight to generate and condense steam directly from the water's surface, reducing heat loss and enhancing energy efficiency. Tested with synthetic and real seawater in Abu Dhabi, the device demonstrated the capacity to produce 2.2 litres of freshwater per square metre per day. It has attracted interest from major national companies including ADNOC and is registered under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) in the United States. Meanwhile, Green Waste Solutions Trading DMCC, based in Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, created an integrated system that converts organic waste and wastewater into usable resources, including potable water, renewable energy, and bio-fertilisers. The mobile solar-powered system includes anaerobic digesters, filtration units, power generators, and smart monitoring systems using AI and blockchain technologies. The solution has been successfully implemented in Egypt and Botswana, producing up to 100,000 litres of clean water per day and benefiting over 20,000 people in remote areas. Its flexible design makes it ideal for refugee camps and underserved communities. WAM
