Khandu lays base of Rs 750-Cr education infrastructure projects across Arunachal

Itanagar, May 30 (UNI) In a significant move towards transforming the educational landscape of Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday digitally laid the foundation stones for a series of infrastructure development projects worth Rs 750 crore under the Education Department. These projects will be executed by the Rural Works Department (RWD) during the financial year 2025–26.
The projects include: Upgradation of 39 Government Higher Secondary Schools under the SASCI (Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment) scheme with an outlay of Rs 300 crore; Construction of 156 hostels and teachers' quarters across all districts under SASCI, costing Rs 322 crore; C/o 14 large-capacity hostels (120 beds each) under the DAJGUA (Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan) scheme at Rs 71.40 crore; 60 bachelor barracks in rural schools for Rs 9 crore; infrastructure development of Arunachal University, Pasighat with Rs 30 crore; and C/o 394 kitchen sheds-cum-stores under PM Poshan scheme with Rs 23.64 crore
'This (initiative) is in line with our commitment to successfully implement the Shikshit Arunachal 2029 Mission adopted by our government,' Khandu said. Under this Mission, he said, all infrastructural needs of government schools will be fulfilled while also making policy decisions to rejuvenate the education system of the state.
Khandu reiterated that schools not functioning or with zero attendance will be closed, and the Inter-Village (IV) school model will be implemented to optimize resources and improve outcomes.
'Over the years, our focus on quantity diluted quality. With Mission Shikshit Arunachal, we aim to elevate the standard of education in the state to top-notch levels by 2029,' he revealed.
Expressing confidence in Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona's leadership, Khandu said he is optimistic about achieving the Mission's targets on time. Congratulating the Education and Rural Works departments for undertaking this critical responsibility, he advised all officials of RWD to ensure quality and adhere strictly to project timelines.
The event was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Education Minister PD Sona, Advisor to the Education Minister Mutchu Mithi, and senior officials from both RWD and the Education Department.

Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy arrested over allegations of extortion

In a significant turn of events in Telangana politics, Huzurabad BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy was apprehended by Warangal Subedari Police at Shamshabad Airport. He has since been transported to Warangal for questioning. The detainment stems from serious allegations made by a granite quarry trader, Manoj Reddy, who operates a quarry in Vangapalli, Kamalapur mandal. Reddy's wife, Umadevi, lodged a complaint with the Subedari Police, claiming that MLA Reddy threatened her, demanding a payment of Rs. 50 lakhs. As a result, police have filed cases against the MLA under Sections 308(2), 308(4), and 352 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), encompassing charges of threatening and extortion. CLAT PG aspirant moves Delhi HC against ‘arbitrary' counselling fees

NEW DELHI: A candidate who appeared for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) PG has approached the Delhi High Court challenging the high counselling fees levied by the Consortium of National Law Universities, calling them arbitrary and unaffordable for many aspirants. The petition, filed by Jatin Shrivastava, who secured the 474th rank in the entrance exam, argues that the mandatory counselling fee of Rs 30,000, along with additional charges for freezing or confirming seats, is unjust and disproportionate. The matter was mentioned on Friday before the vacation bench of Justices Prathiba M Singh and Rajneesh Kumar Gupta, who have listed it for hearing on June 23. According to Shrivastava's plea, the Consortium demands Rs 20,000 as confirmation fees for every round of counselling, which must be paid afresh each time a candidate chooses to freeze their allotted seat. The petition contends this practice lacks justification, particularly as the financial capacity of students is not assessed before levying such charges. 'That Clause 2 - 'Admissions Counselling process', vide Clause 2.1 titled as 'freeze option' of which, whenever any candidate participant intends to apply for 'freeze option', he is required to deposit a 'non-refundable confirmation fees' of Rs 20,000/- at the time of opting for freezing of any seat,' the plea read.

Modi slams RJD for 'insulting' Ambedkar

Siwan (Bihar): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday slammed the RJD for allegedly insulting Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar and asserted that the people of Bihar would not tolerate any disrespect to the Dalit icon. At a rally in Siwan district, which marked his fifth visit this year to the state and second in less than a month, Modi hailed the "big role" played by Bihar in India's emergence as the "third largest economy" of the world. In a nearly 45-minute-long speech that followed the launch of projects worth more than Rs 5,900 crore and the flagging off of a Vande Bharat train, the Prime Minister cautioned the people against "attempts to recapture economic resources of Bihar" by the RJD-led opposition in the assembly polls due later this year. "Ambedkar was against dynasty rule. But they (RJD and its allies) do not like it. So, they have his portrait placed at their feet. On my way, I saw posters demanding an apology for this insult to Babasaheb," said Modi. "But there has been no apology. This is because they hold Dalits in contempt. In contrast, Modi has Babasaheb in his heart and would like to keep his portrait close to his chest," he added. Modi, who did not mention RJD chief Lalu Prasad by name, referred to the instance of a portrait of Ambedkar being placed close to the feet of the ailing septuagenarian, for which he (Prasad) has been drawing flak from the BJP-led NDA. "The reason is that the RJD-Congress people have little respect for people belonging to the deprived castes, the Dalits, the OBCs and the EBCs. They consider themselves above Babasaheb Ambedkar. But they must remember that the disrespect to Babasaheb Ambedkar will not be forgiven by the people of Bihar," the PM said. Modi also asserted that the world was greatly impressed with India's progress and underscored Bihar's big role in the country's emergence as the world's "third largest economy". "You all know I have returned from abroad only yesterday. During my tour, I met many leaders of the developed world. They all were greatly impressed with the rate of progress in India. They are watching India becoming the third-largest economy in the world.
