Brown County officials provide updates on closures during repaving of Fox River State Trail

BROWN COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – The reconstruction of the Fox River State Trail is set to begin soon, and Brown County officials spoke on Wednesday to provide key updates on the timing and closures that will take effect.
The reconstruction will see about six miles of the trail repaved from Green Bay to De Pere, adding more stability and appeal to the many who use it annually.

Brown County Parks Director Matt Kriese and County Executive Troy Streckenbach gathered with Friends of the Fox River Trail to provide more information on each reconstruction phase.
According to a release, the trail resurfacing stretches from Heritage Road north to the Porlier Pier and South Adams Street intersection.

Trail section closures will be in effect for the following dates:
Phase One, May 5-22:
Closure: Heritage Road to William Street in De Pere from May 5 to May 9
Phase Two, June 9 – July 2
Closure: Porlier Pier in Green Bay to Lazarre Avenue in Allouez from June 9 to June 13
Phase Three, June 13 – July 9
Closure: Lazarre Avenue in Allouez to William Street in De Pere from June 16 to June 20
The dates listed may be changed pending weather complications.

(WFRV) – As smoke and haze continue to linger from wildfires in Canada, the Wisconsin DNR has extended the Air Quality Advisory another day for most of Wisconsin. The advisory extension now lasts until Friday, June 6, at 12 p.m., as the DNR's Air Quality Index remains in the Orange, or 'unhealthy for sensitive groups.' Affected counties include Brown, Door, Kenosha, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Marinette, Milwaukee, Oconto, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington, and Waukesha. Celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Wisconsin State Park System during June's Free Fun Weekend Officials recommend that anyone who falls into the 'sensitive groups' to make outdoor activities shorter and less intense, while including more breaks. It is also recommended to watch out for symptoms, including excess coughing or shortness of breath. Wisconsin DNR: Limit time outside due to Canadian wildfire smoke

MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – Wisconsinites are once again being asked to limit their time outdoors on Tuesday into Wednesday due to ongoing air quality advisories resulting from the Canadian wildfire smoke. According to a release from the Wisconsin DNR, the smoke will be moving across the state throughout the day from the northwest to the southeast. Local nonprofit announces 2025 event to benefit lead singer of The Glam Band The DNR has also announced an advisory for particulate matter < 2.5 microns (RED). Health impacts are reaching the unhealthy level and could have short-term spikes in the very unhealthy level. Those with heart or lung disease, older adults, and children are advised to make their outdoor activities shorter and less intense. DNR officials say to consider moving outdoor activities inside if applicable. Other ways to stay protected from wildfire smoke are as follows: Check your local air quality index Current conditions can be found here. This specific advisory is predicted to last from noon on Tuesday through noon on Wednesday.
