5 career certifications that instantly make your resume stand ou
A
dding a certification to your resume won't guarantee a job, but it can demonstrate initiative, up-to-date skills, and a willingness to learn—traits that many employers value.
With the growing availability of short-term, skills-focused programs, certifications have become an accessible way to supplement your education or work experience. Some can be completed in just a few weeks, others in a few months, but the right one can help you stand out—especially in competitive fields or during a career shift.
Here are five certifications that are often recognised by employers and can strengthen your resume, depending on your career goals.
Google Career Certificates
This set of online programs covers areas like IT support, data analytics, UX design, and digital marketing. The content focuses on practical skills and job readiness, and it's designed to be accessible to beginners with no prior experience in the field. These certificates have become popular among people looking to enter the tech industry without a formal degree. While completion alone doesn't guarantee employment, it can help candidates demonstrate foundational knowledge and a self-starting mindset.

Certified ScrumMaster
(CSM)
Scrum is a widely used project management framework, especially in industries where Agile methods are common. The Certified ScrumMaster credential offers a structured way to understand Scrum principles and practices, with a focus on team leadership and iterative workflows. While it's more common in tech-related roles, Scrum is also used in marketing, product development, and even education. People in project coordination or team leadership positions may find it useful for understanding how to manage workflows more effectively.
CompTIA A+
This entry-level certification covers core IT skills, including hardware, networking, and troubleshooting. It's often a first step for individuals aiming to work in technical support or other IT-related roles. Since it is vendor-neutral, it provides a broad foundation rather than training for a specific system. While some employers may look for hands-on experience, CompTIA A+ can help applicants signal readiness for junior IT positions or internships.
HubSpot Content Marketing Certification
This free course focuses on the fundamentals of content marketing—planning, creation, promotion, and analysis. Although it's primarily geared toward marketers, it can also be useful for business owners, content creators, and communications professionals. It's a relatively short certification and doesn't replace formal marketing training, but it can help fill gaps in understanding for those new to the field or transitioning from another role.
Data Analytics Certificates (Google or Microsoft Power BI)
Certifications in data analysis are increasingly valued as more industries rely on data to make decisions. The Google Data Analytics Certificate and Microsoft's Power BI certifications are two popular options, each with its own focus. Google's program introduces tools like spreadsheets, SQL, and Tableau, while Power BI emphasises dashboard creation and business intelligence reporting. These credentials won't turn someone into a data scientist overnight, but they can help candidates show they've taken the initiative to learn core skills that are applicable across many industries.
Certifications aren't magic bullets, but they can be helpful tools—especially for people looking to change careers, fill skill gaps, or add weight to their resume when experience is limited. It's important to choose programs based on your goals, interests, and the type of roles you're targeting. Not all certifications carry equal weight across industries, so doing a bit of research before investing your time and money is always a smart move.

Apple talking to AI startup Perplexity, claims report and why it pulled down Google shares

Apple Inc. is exploring a potential acquisition of AI startup Perplexity AI to bolster its artificial intelligence capabilities, according to Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter. The discussions, led by Adrian Perica, Apple's head of mergers and acquisitions, alongside services chief Eddy Cue and key AI decision-makers, are in early stages and may not result in a formal offer, the sources said, speaking anonymously due to the private nature of the talks. Apple buying Perplexity will be the company's largest-acquisition so far A deal for Perplexity, recently valued at $14 billion, would mark Apple's largest acquisition ever, surpassing its $3 billion purchase of Beats in 2014. The move could help Apple develop an AI-powered search engine, addressing concerns over its $20 billion annual deal with Google, which faces scrutiny from US antitrust regulators. No discussions have occurred with Perplexity's management, and the startup stated it has 'no knowledge of any current or future M&A discussions.' Apple declined to comment. Why Apple-Perplexity news pulled down Google stock Google shares reversed gains and fell nearly 1% in late trading after Bloomberg reported on Apple's Perplexity discussions. The news sparked investor concerns about Google's long-standing dominance in the search market, particularly its lucrative $20 billion annual deal to remain the default search engine on Apple's Safari browser. Apple's senior vice president, Eddy Cue, revealed during Google's antitrust trial that Safari search volumes declined for the first time in April, attributing this to growing user preference for AI-driven search alternatives like Perplexity and ChatGPT. If Apple acquires Perplexity, valued at $14 billion, it could reduce reliance on Google, threatening the latter's search advertising revenue, which accounted for $162 billion of Alphabet's $283 billion in 2022 revenue. The potential loss of this partnership, combined with the U.S. Department of Justice's push to curb Google's search monopoly, heightened market fears. Additionally, Perplexity's 20% month-over-month query growth signals a shift toward AI search, challenging Google's traditional model despite its own AI efforts like Gemini. Why Apple may be planning to buy Perplexity Perplexity's real-time, web-based question-answering service could enhance Apple's efforts to compete in generative AI, where it trails rivals. Apple's recent AI offerings, unveiled at its Worldwide Developers Conference, include live translation and a partnership with OpenAI for ChatGPT-based image generation, but a revamped Siri has been delayed until next spring. Acquiring Perplexity could provide Apple with AI talent, a recognized brand, and a consumer product to strengthen its position. Alternatively, Apple has considered partnering with Perplexity, potentially integrating its technology into Safari and Siri. The companies have met multiple times, with Apple's AI team evaluating Perplexity's technology, signaling interest in a closer relationship. Meta and Perplexity talks failed The news follows Meta Platforms Inc.'s failed attempt to acquire Perplexity earlier this year, after which Meta purchased a 49% stake in Scale AI for $14.3 billion. Apple and Meta are also competing for talent, with both companies vying to hire Daniel Gross, co-founder of Safe Superintelligence Inc. and a former Apple acquisition via his startup Cue in 2013. Google shares dipped nearly 1% in late trading after the report. AI Masterclass for Students. Upskill Young Ones Today!– Join Now

Average speed of vehicle in city is 25 kmph: Hyd'bad police chief

Hyderabad: Hyderabad City Police Commissioner C V Anand emphasised that the average vehicle speed in the city has significantly increased to 24 to 25 kilometres per hour, up from last year's 17 to 18 kmph. The Commissioner attributed these positive results to the diligent efforts of the Hyderabad Traffic Police and extended his sincere thanks to everyone involved. On Friday, during a review meeting on traffic problems in Hyderabad City and their solutions, C V Anand noted that approximately 1,600 new vehicles are added to the roads every day. Across the three Commissionerates, a staggering total of 91 lakh vehicles are on the roads daily. During the meeting, the Commissioner provided guidance on the fundamental principles of traffic control and management. He stated that currently, 80 per cent of traffic signals in Hyderabad are operating on auto mode, which is effectively helping to clear traffic quickly. Regarding traffic violations, police are focusing on the quality of penalties rather than merely the quantity of fines imposed. This strategic approach, he explained, has led to a reduction in overall traffic fines. 'We are monitoring Hyderabad's traffic through drone cameras. To further improve Hyderabad's traffic system, we are taking assistance from Google. In addition to Google Maps, Google is also providing us with technical support,' he revealed. The Commissioner highlighted that, with the cooperation of owners of high rise multi storied buildings in Hyderabad, 25 'high rise cameras' are being installed on these buildings to obtain an 'Eagle View'. Through these, traffic officials can proactively identify traffic problems, alert local traffic authorities, and provide suggestions for appropriate solutions.

Dollar edges higher vs yen amid focus on Middle East unrest

The U.S. dollar rose to a three-week high against the safe-haven yen and gained ground on the Swiss franc on Friday amid signs tension in the Middle East is easing after Iran backed continued discussions with Europe on its conflict with Israel. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Tehran backed further talks with Germany, France, Britain and the EU and would be prepared to meet again in the near future following talks in Geneva. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Access all TV channels anywhere, anytime Techno Mag Learn More Israel and Iran have been waging a week-long air battle as the Israeli government seeks to thwart Tehran's nuclear ambitions, and market participants are nervous about possible U.S. attacks on Iran, sparking a surge in the greenback. The dollar index, which measures the U.S. currency against six peers, including the Swiss franc, the Japanese yen, and the euro, is poised to rise 0.6% this week. On the day, however, the index remains flat after a Federal Reserve governor said rate cuts should be considered as soon as July, given recent inflation data. Live Events "The market's already expecting two rate cuts. That was just confirmed by the Fed this week. So, Mr. (Chris) Waller coming out and saying that, would indicate that it's coming sooner rather than later," said Joseph Trevisani, senior analyst at FX Street. Iran said on Friday it would not discuss the future of its nuclear programme while under attack by Israel, as Europe tried to coax Tehran back into negotiations. Meanwhile, the White House said on Thursday that President Donald Trump would decide on the potential involvement of the United States in the conflict in the next two weeks. That helped soothe nervous investors worried about an imminent U.S. attack on Iran, even though the prospect of a broadening Middle East conflict kept risk appetite in check. Brent crude fell more than 2%, but at around $77 a barrel, it was close to the January peak it hit last week. The drop supported the currencies of net oil-importing economies such as the euro and the yen. The euro rose 0.3% at $1.1534, while the yen fell 0.29% to 145.88 per dollar. The recent spike in oil prices added a new layer of inflation uncertainty for central banks across regions, which have been grappling with the potential impact of U.S. tariffs on their economies. Although the Federal Reserve this week stuck with its forecast of two interest rate cuts this year, Chair Jerome Powell warned of "meaningful" inflation ahead. Analysts saw the central bank's delivery as a "hawkish tilt" further underpinning the greenback's gains this week. The Swiss franc was flat at 0.8166 per dollar but was set for its largest weekly drop since the third week of April, after the country's central bank lowered interest rates to 0%. Investors were, however, taken aback by an unexpected 25-basis-point interest rate cut by Norges Bank, and the krone is down more than 2% against the dollar this week. Though geopolitical tensions were the main market focus this week, concerns about a trade war and the impact it may have on costs, corporate margins, and overall growth are ever-present, as Trump's early July tariff deadline looms. These concerns have weighed on the dollar, which is down about 9% this year. Currencies positively correlated to risk sentiment, such as the Australian and New Zealand dollars, were down 0.3% against the buck. Elsewhere, the yuan was flat at 7.1820 after China kept benchmark lending rates unchanged as expected. Sterling was flat at $1.3471, paring earlier gains after British retail sales data showed volumes recorded their sharpest drop since December 2023 last month. "The default setting may be position adjusting," said Marc Chandler, chief market strategist at Bannockburn Global Forex.
