Selena Gomez is Woman of the Year at Billboard Latin Women in Music 2025
Miami, US – Selena Gomez will receive the prestigious Woman of the Year award at the Billboard Latin Women in Music 2025, Billboard and Telemundo announced on Wednesday. The third annual edition of the celebration will be held in Miami and broadcast live on April 24 at 9pm ET (1am GMT), exclusively on Telemundo, with additional airing on Universo, Peacock and the Telemundo app. The show will also be available across Latin America and the Caribbean via Telemundo Internacional.
The Woman of the Year award recognises a female artist who has shown exceptional success, leadership, and cultural impact in the music industry and beyond. Gomez joins previous honourees such as Shakira and Karol G.
A global star with a diverse career, Gomez has enjoyed significant success in both mainstream and Latin music. With 42 entries on the Billboard Hot 100, she secured her first No.1 with Lose You to Love Me in 2019. Her 2018 collaboration Taki Taki with DJ Snake, Ozuna, and Cardi B debuted at No.1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart and held the top spot for 13 consecutive weeks. She continued her Latin chart success with hits such as Baila Conmigo with Rauw Alejandro, which reached No.4 and topped the Latin Airplay chart.
Gomez made history with her debut Spanish-language EP Revelación , which premiered at No.1 on the Top Latin Albums chart, becoming the first female artist to do so since Shakira's El Dorado. The project earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Pop Album. Most recently, her collaboration with Benny Blanco and The Marías on Ojos Tristes — a reinterpretation of the 1980s classic El Muchacho de los Ojos Tristes — reached the top five on Hot Latin Songs and forms part of the collaborative album I Said I Love You First .
Beyond her musical achievements, Gomez is an acclaimed actress, producer, and businesswoman. She is also a prominent advocate for mental health and social justice, using her platform to raise awareness on issues affecting underrepresented communities. She was previously named Billboard's Woman of the Year in 2017 for her contributions to the broader music landscape.
This year's celebration will also recognise artists including Anitta with the Vanguard Award, Belinda with the Evolution Award, Celia Cruz posthumously with the Legend Award, Chiquis with the Impact Award, Ha*Ash with the Unbreakable Award, Natti Natasha as the Unstoppable Artist, and Olga Tañón with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

RM makes AMAs history as solo star, upholding BTS's global legacy
RM, the leader of world-renowned K-pop group BTS, has etched his name in music history once again — this time as a solo artist — by winning Favourite K-pop Artist at the 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs). Currently serving in the South Korean military, Kim Namjoon, known to millions as RM, became the first artist to win this prestigious category both as a solo performer and as part of BTS, cementing not only his personal legacy but also reinforcing the enduring global influence of the band. Despite his absence from the awards ceremony due to military duties, RM took to Instagram Stories to thank fans. Reposting BTS's official announcement, he wrote: 'Thank you for your love and support, #BTSARMY 💜.' In another post, he sparked excitement by hinting at his return, writing: 'It will be soon, seriously, soon,' in response to an article about BTS's upcoming reunification. RM's victory was bolstered by the success of his second solo album, Right Place, Wrong Person , released in May 2024. The record earned both critical acclaim and commercial success — topping Billboard's Top Rap Albums Chart, peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, and securing six spots in the Top 10 Rap Digital Song Sales. BTS: Kim Namjoon, Kim Seokjin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, Park Jimin, Kim Taehung, Jeon Jungkook His artistic evolution was also documented in 'RM: Right People, Wrong Place', a film released worldwide in December 2024 after its premiere at the 29th Busan International Film Festival. RM's solo success adds to BTS's phenomenal legacy — a group that has not only reshaped the global music scene but also broken barriers for Asian artists worldwide. With all members expected to reunite in late 2025 following the completion of military service by RM, V, Suga, Jimin, and Jungkook, fans are eagerly awaiting BTS's full-fledged return. Jin and J-Hope, the first to complete service in 2023, are already back in the public eye, setting the stage for what promises to be a monumental comeback for the world's most influential pop act.
