Zoe, played by Michelle Ryan, is back but some viewers are convinced she's not here for a cosy family catch-up.
Instead, they think she's got unfinished business with Ross and stepson Joel, who rocked up alongside Vicki Fowler earlier this year for Martin Fowler's funeral.
Since landing on the Square, teen Joel has been ruffling feathers - and while fans have uncovered a string of his dark secrets, one mystery remains... who's his real mum?
Now, viewers reckon Zoe could be hiding the ultimate bombshell.
Taking to the Instagram, one fan wrote: "We reckon she's Joel's mum!"
Another added: "Omg it will be crazy if she is acc Joel's biological mum!"
A third penned: "You ain't my mother' to be recreated with Zoe & Joel, I predict."
Viewers will see Zoe in two further episodes this week - but she will be on board full-time this summer.
Speaking on her return to the BBC soap, Michelle said: 'It feels like coming home.
'After doing my first few scenes, it was like I'd never been away.
EastEnders' Michelle Ryan reveals emotional secret reunion with soap cast before Zoe Slater's bombshell return
'It all happened at the right time.
'I'd already been thinking about a return because I'd met up with Kacey Ainsworth (Little Mo) and Kim Medcalf (Sam Mitchell) and we were reminiscing our fond memories of the show, and I'd also joined social media and saw that there was still a lot of love for the character.
'It just so happened that at the same time, EastEnders had announced a new Exec who was keen to explore the potential of a return as he was such a massive fan of Zoe and the Slaters, so both of our worlds aligned at the right time, and I'm so excited to be back.
'When I was pitched the storylines, and when I read the scripts, I knew it was the right decision.'
EastEnders new boss, Executive Producer Ben Wadey added: 'Before I even stepped into the role, Zoe Slater was on my wish-list of returnees as, although we haven't seen her on screen for twenty years, her character has transcended time due to her popular storylines.'

TV tonight: how Serena Williams nearly became a punk guitarist

11.10pm, BBC One The Williams sisters are almost always approached as a pair, sharing a destiny from early childhood. In this series, Serena tells her own story – though, of course, Venus chips in. The opening episode looks at the influence of their father Richard, who saw tennis as his family's passport out of Compton. But Serena initially had other ideas: she is a Green Day fan and fancied herself as a punk guitarist. 'All my dreams weren't on the tennis court,' she says. Phil Harrison 8.35pm, BBC Two With their reunion concerts looming, what better time to revisit the couple of years when Oasis felt furiously essential. This compilation of the band's trips to the BBC leans heavily on their 1994-5 output – including buskers' favourite Wonderwall. PH 9pm, Channel 5 A feature-length documentary that investigates every aspect of the life of Prince William and reports as follows: everything he has ever done or said is almost unbearably brilliant. If you're a royalist, it's one long sigh of pleasure; if not, you'll feel as if you've taken mind-altering drugs. Jack Seale 9.25pm, BBC One In the final episode of this delicate Australian drama, the day of the 'last anniversary party' arrives, bringing with it the reveals of some long-held mysteries. As Veronika learns the truth of Alice and Jack's story, Deborah brings Thomas's crush on Sophie to light, while Margie and Enigma unearth Ron's secret plans. Nicole Vassell 10pm, ITV1 Stick-on beards, secret phones and scary latex masks are the order of the day in this far-fetched transatlantic thriller, first seen on Apple TV+. Hannah J Davies 10.25pm, Channel 4 The remarkable Rhod Gilbert filmed this standup set in Cardiff in 2022. It mined laughter from a difficult period in his life – he'd lost his mum, had a stroke and struggled with infertility. Sadly, a cancer diagnosis was just round the corner, which gives the show added poignancy. PH Piece By Piece, 8.25am, 4.20pm, Sky Cinema Premiere We've had Robbie Williams played by a CGI chimp so why not Pharrell Williams as a collection of small plastic bricks? This weird but joyous documentary from Morgan Neville uses Lego to encapsulate the life of the wildly successful Neptunes producer and musician. Williams having synaesthesia – he experiences sound as colour – means the film can go off on visual flights of fancy; the beats he creates becoming rainbow fireworks or vibrant waves. All this trippy imagery covers up the fact that his rise to stardom has been fairly frictionless, but contributions from Lego versions of Missy Elliott, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg et al attest to his offbeat worldview and hyperactive creativity. Simon Wardell Saint Omer, 9pm, BBC Four Why would a mother leave her 15-month-old daughter on a beach to drown? That's the central question in French film-maker Alice Diop's murky, moving courtroom drama, as a young Senegalese woman, Laurence (Guslagie Malanda), is put on trial. Lecturer Rama (Kayije Kagame) attends in the hope of writing a book about it, but uneasy resonances with her own life – immigrant family, pregnancy, mixed-race relationship – throw her off-track. EastEnders' Ali Osman star is unrecognisable after co-star's tragic death

Ali Osman was a firm favourite in Walford when he was part of the original cast of EastEnders, with his character being involved in a number of gripping storylines Die-hard EastEnders fans will never forget Ali Osman. Nejdet Adamson, a member of the original cast of the much-loved British soap, played the character and became a household name in Walford some 40 years ago before he jetted off to chase his Hollywood dreams. During his time on Albert Square, Ali was embroiled in intense storylines involving marital breakdowns, the grief of losing a child, and a troubling gambling addiction. He also ran the café, then-known as Al's Café, alongside his wife Sue, played by actress Sandy Ratcliff - and later started a taxi firm, OzCabs, alongside his brother Mehmet, running it from a corner table in the café. Sadly, Sandy – who was also an original cast member – died alone in sheltered housing from an accidental overdose, back in 2019. She was 70 years old. ‌ ‌ After leaving EastEnders, 66 year old Nejdet made a dramatic career switch from Walford to Hollywood, landing a role as a short sailor in the blockbuster hits Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and its sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006). Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl pulled in a whopping 654.3 million USD, while its sequel, Dead Man's Chest, amassed a global total of $1.066 billion. Post-EastEnders, he bagged a role in Carry On Columbus as Fayid, sharing the spotlight with comedy icon Rik Mayall. But he hasn't been shy about discussing his professional struggles, confessing on the soap's 25th anniversary in 2010: "I have had to live with Ali for 25 years. I'm just trying to get on with my life." Maintaining a low profile, he added: "I don't give interviews. I am still acting but it is hard when everyone I'm still Ali from the café," reports OK!. Nej also popped up in two episodes of TV comedy drama Auf Wiedersehen Pet, and has had parts in Doctor Who and Wall of Silence (2004). While juggling the life of a small-time actor, Nejdet even briefly moved to Hollywood in 1990. ‌ However, Tinseltown wasn't all it was cracked up to be for the actor. His marriage to drama school love, Susan Stevens, ended in 1990, just a year after they tied the knot. Before his marriage to Stevens, Nejdet had a fleeting romance with his EastEnders co-star Linda Davidson, who played Mary Smith. He remains active in showbiz, having starred in crime drama Sleep Warm a few years ago, and recently featuring in horror flick Heckle. The actor boasts an estimated personal net worth between £1 million to £5 million. Originally known as Nej Salih, he adopted the name Nej Adamson after his stint on EastEnders ended in 1989. He continues to call London home.
