EastEnders star addresses Alfie 'exit' and teases huge Zoe Slater twist

EastEnders' Alfie Moon actor Shane Richie recently spoke to The Mirror about a story 'bigger than the 40th' coming up that seems to be about Zoe Slater, linked to his break from the BBC soap Actor Shane Richie has addressed his 'exit' from EastEnders, as his character Alfie Moon left for some time away in Australia. Of course fans know this wasn't where he was really headed, after he'd told wife Kat Slater how he was going to visit his brother Spencer Moon. Just days earlier, Alfie had visited Kat's cousin Stacey Slater only to find his stepdaughter, Kat's daughter, Zoe Slater there too. ‌ This was Michelle Ryan's big return to the role and the BBC soap for the first time in 20 years. Now she's making a permanent return, but this week we saw her flee and didn't reveal where she was going. ‌ Stacey and Alfie were sure she'd fled back to Spain, while she appeared to be in big trouble there. It soon turned out she'd made up death threats and messages about some money she owed, and Zoe confessed she was hiding a massive secret. As she prepared to tell Alfie and Stacey what was going on, she refused to reunite with her mother Kat and banned them from telling her she was there. She hinted whatever she was hiding was "unforgivable" and really bad, and no one could know. But before we could find out what it was she ran away, with Alfie and Stacey desperately trying to track her down. On Thursday night we saw Alfie leave the Square 'for Australia', while it was clear Kat wasn't convinced. Alfie told Stacey he was going to bring Zoe home and set off to track her down. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror before the scenes aired, Alfie actor Shane addressed his onscreen 'exit' and explained where he was in real life. He also appeared to tease how long Alfie would be gone for after his claims it would be two weeks tops. Shane explained he was off for around a month, not filming in this time. ‌ This doesn't mean he will be offscreen for this amount of time or longer, but it could well mean Alfie extends his trip out of the Square. He told us: "I've been away for four or five weeks because I've been on tour with my mates. "I'm coming back and reading scripts and going, 'Oh my God!". So the tour paved the way for Alfie's own break from Walford, with it written in that he would go and find returning character Zoe. ‌ Whether he manages to bring her back remains to be seen, but Zoe will be back onscreen this summer. Actress Michelle teased a massive storyline they were currently filming for her return, teasing "high stakes" with multiple night shoots. While Shane didn't mention Zoe or actress Michelle at all when we spoke to him, with the return still under wraps at this point, he appeared to tease the big plot that Michelle has this week referred to. Teasing a storyline "bigger than the 40th episodes", he revealed a huge plot was kicking off that would run until at least the New Year. Teasing all, Shane revealed new producer Ben Wadey had huge things planned for the show. The actor told us: "He has told me some things. I said let me sit down. ‌ "There's fireworks, there's Kat and Alfie. There is a story that is about to kick in, which will carry on through to after C hristmas. Honestly it's a big story. If you thought the 40th was big wait until you see this story. That's all I'm saying." Shane also teased there was more drama to come for Alfie's son Tommy Moon and his pal and now blackmailer Joel Marshall, who assaulted a woman this week and had Tommy film it. Amid Tommy's turmoil, Shane teased things would continue in scenes yet to be aired after Alfie's exit. He hinted of what was to come for Tommy and Joel: "[It will continue]. While I was away something [big was being filmed]." He didn't give anything away but confirmed it was while Alfie was away.

EastEnders legend reveals emotional reaction to Zoe Slater's return

EastEnders favourite Jessie Wallace has revealed she cried upon learning that Michelle Ryan would be returning to the BBC soap. It's been a busy old week in Walford, with Zoe Slater making a grand return after 20 years away. It's something which Jessie has called for quite some time, and yet the two actresses didn't share any screen time in the last few episodes. Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) had reached out to Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) to tell him that a wayward Zoe had moved in with her, and was overspending on her credit card. Zoe fabricated texts from Spanish loansharks, implying that they were trying to hunt her down and hurt her. Just as Stace' and Alfie grappled with her lies, Kat burst into the flat and her estranged daughter hid in the bedroom. To evade being caught, she climbed out of the window and fled the area for Barcelona – with Alfie following, telling his wife that he was going to Australia to care for younger brother Spencer (Christopher Parker). The huge week has been covered in a feature-length behind the scenes video – which can be viewed on the EastEnders YouTube channel now – and shows Michelle heading back to Elstree Studios for her first day of filming. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video We see her in her dressing room, which has been marked 'Sienna' to keep her identity a secret, and chatting with new executive producer Ben Wadey about his vision. She also sits down with Jessie, who is clearly elated to be with her co-star. 'So, Michelle is back after 20 years' she begins. 'I've missed her tremendously, I've missed her, working with her, the whole Kat and Zoe thing, you know, going back to, 'You ain't my mother,' 'Yes I am'. 'And when I found out Michelle was coming back, I cried. And then when we met up, I cried because I've missed you.' Jessie then states that it felt like being reunited with a child, and it's obvious that theres a lot of love in the Slater clan, who first appeared in 2000. 'Michelle's gone off and done great things, and I've gone off and done other things, but I always come back because I love it here,' she continued. 'I feel like it's my home. And now Michelle's back it's like having my daughter back again.' Wednesday's instalment marked the last time we'll see Zoe – for now. Alfie has headed to Barcelona, hoping to track her movements using the credit card payments. In his departure scenes, he promised an oblivious Kat that he'd bring her the 'best present ever' home from 'Australia'. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? More schedule changes confirmed as EastEnders is pulled from BBC One

As the summer of sport begins, EastEnders will become the latest soap to have their schedule changed as a result. Due to the Wimbledon coverage on BBC One, there won't be any room for EastEnders to air in the usual 7:30pm slot. Don't worry, you won't miss a week of the soap, but you will have to flick over to BBC Two to watch the instalments. On the week commencing June 30, EastEnders will only air on the Monday and Tuesday, but will broadcast two episodes in a row, therefore effectively broadcasting a week's worth of episodes in just two days. It will air as follows: Monday, June 30 – 7pm and then again at 7:30pm. Tuesday, July 1 – 7pm and then again at 7:30pm. The drama taking place in Walford across those two days will involve Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) and Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) clashing, while Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) plots to catch someone out. It's been quite the week in EastEnders. On Monday, fans up and down the country got a huge shock as Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) returned to our screens. More Trending Staying with Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) in a flat in London, it became apparent very quickly that Zoe wasn't in a good place, with our Stace concerned enough to notify Alfie Moon (Shane Richie). Alfie wasn't keen on the prospect of keeping Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) in the dark but Zoe urged him to keep schtum. When Kat showed up at the flat, however, Zoe was forced to hide and she subsequently made an escape, determined not to come face-to-face with her estranged mum. Popstar due to appear on Celebrity Gogglebox in first ever reality TV appearance

Celebrity Gogglebox's cast is set to become even more star studded as a string of new names have been added to the upcoming series line-up including popstar Rag'n'Bone Man A popstar is due to appear on the most recent series of Celebrity Gogglebox in his first ever reality TV appearance. Rag'n'Bone Man has had a successful music career so far but is now giving TV a go. The singer, whose real name is Rory Graham, is appearing on the Channel 4 programme alongside another famous face. The 40-year-old will be sitting alongside TV star and comedian Romesh Ranganathan on the sofa as they watch and review the top television offerings of the week. ‌ Romesh, 47, is a well-known face in the world of showbiz and has plenty of TV experience, hosting The Weakest Link as well as A League Of Their Own, The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganathan, The Ranganation and much more. ‌ Meanwhile, Rag'n'Bone Man's TV experience is slightly more limited – but the Human singer has acting credits in EastEnders, making a cameo appearance when he performed for The Queen Vic's pub-goers. Now, the duo will be appearing on Celebrity Gogglebox together and shared a clip where they confirmed the news. Romesh can be heard saying: "Hello I'm Romesh and this is Rory [Rag'n'Bone Man]. We are gonna be on Celebrity Gogglebox, aren't we?" Rag'n'Bone Man then added: "Yes we are, this Friday at 9pm." Rag'n'Bone Man tied the knot with his long-term partner, Zoe, last year after a difficult road in their relationship. Zoe and the singer got married on Saturday 9 November 2024 in front of their closest friends and family members. Ahead of the big day, a source said: "Rory is really down to earth and he and Zoe love their quiet life out of the spotlight. But the wedding won't be low-key, as they're having all their friends and family involved for a massive celebration, with a huge party afterwards." ‌ Zoe and Rag'n'Bone man first got together back in 2020 but split for a time in 2021 due to the star's busy schedule. A source said at the time: "Things have been full-on for Rory around the release of his album and everything, so it has been difficult to spend a lot of time together. It hasn't worked out between them and they have called things off." However, the split only lasted a few months as they rekindled their romance and by June 2024 they were engaged. This is the singer's second marriage as his first didn't work out. The chart topping star was married before his now-wife but it was a short-lived relationship. He was first married to Beth Rouy in 2019 after they were in a relationship with each other for 10 years beforehand. The former couple share a son together but their marriage broke down soon after they said their vows. Just six months after their wedding day was reported, the couple split and went their separate ways.

EastEnders' Jessie Wallace breaks down in tears over Zoe Slater's return

Jessie Wallace plays Kat Slater, Zoe Slater's mum on the BBC soap. The actress said that Michelle Ryan's return as Zoe has felt like having a reunion with a real life daughter EastEnders Kat Slater star Jessie Wallace has revealed she was overcome with emotion after discovering that Michelle Ryan was returning to the soap as her on-screen daughter, Zoe Slater, two decades after her dramatic exit from Albert Square. In a behind-the-scenes video shared by the official EastEnders Instagram page, Jessie admitted she cried when she learned Michelle was reprising the iconic role. She said: "So, Michelle is back after 20 years. I've missed her tremendously, I've missed her, working with her, the whole Kat and Zoe thing, you know, going back to, 'You ain't my mother,' 'Yes I am.' ‌ "And when I found out Michelle was coming back, I cried. And then when we met up, I cried because I've missed you." Michelle, now 41, originally left EastEnders in 2005 when her character Zoe fled to Ibiza to escape the fallout of Dirty Den's murder. ‌ In one of the soap's most memorable twists, it was revealed that Zoe was not Kat's sister, as she had believed, but her daughter. Kat gave birth to her when she was just 13, after being assaulted by her uncle Harry. Zoe's return on Monday night (June 16) came as a shock to viewers. She unexpectedly reappeared in a flat shared with her estranged cousin Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), and it wasn't long before her destitution started to come to light when she admitted she had stolen Stacey's credit card and claimed was being hunted by Spanish loan sharks. Zoe's former stepdad Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) made a surprise appearance at the flat, which led to a shock reunion as he came face to face with Zoe for the first time in years. Wallace, who last starred alongside Ryan in 2005, said having Michelle back on set was like reuniting with family. "Michelle's gone off and done great things, and I've gone off and done other things, but I always come back because I love it here. I feel like it's my home. And now Michelle's back it's like having my daughter back again," she gushed. ‌ For Ryan, the return also came with some nerves. "I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to retain all the dialogue, and then after like the first day, I was like, 'This is easy, it just feels comfortable,'" she explained. In a conversation with the BBC, Michelle opened up about how the timing of her comeback felt right. She said: "It all happened at the right time. I'd already been thinking about a return because I'd met up with Kacey Ainsworth (Little Mo) and Kim Medcalf (Sam Mitchell) and we were reminiscing our fond memories of the show, and I'd also joined social media and saw that there was still a lot of love for the character. "It just so happened that at the same time, EastEnders had announced a new Exec who was keen to explore the potential of a return as he was such a massive fan of Zoe and the Slaters, so both of our worlds aligned at the right time, and I'm so excited to be back. "When Ben pitched me the storylines, and when I read the scripts, I knew it was the right decision. It feels like coming home. After doing my first few scenes, it was like I'd never been away."
