The New Year is the perfect time to focus on health and wellness, with many looking for smarter ways to track and improve their well-being. Whether it's optimizing sleep, monitoring vital signs, or staying active, technology plays a crucial role in making health management more accessible and effective.
To showcase its latest health innovations, Apple invited TahawulTech.com and select media outlets for an exclusive virtual briefing. The session provided an in-depth look at Apple Watch's cutting-edge features, including Vitals tracking, Sleep Apnea notifications, Retrospective Ovulation Estimates, Time in Daylight monitoring, and State of Mind insights.
More than just a smartwatch, Apple Watch is a powerful health companion—equipped with intelligent features designed to help users live healthier, sleep better, and take control of their well-being. Let's explore how simple Apple Watch tricks can enhance your daily health routine.
Stay on Top of Your Health with the Vitals App
The Vitals app provides a snapshot of your overnight health metrics, including heart rate, respiratory rate, wrist temperature, sleep duration, and blood oxygen levels. Your Apple Watch analyzes these key indicators and alerts you when multiple metrics are out of your typical range. This feature helps you understand how factors like travel, alcohol intake, or even illness may impact your health.
💡 Tip: Charge your Apple Watch before bed to ensure a full night of tracking. The Apple Watch Series 10 charges up to 80% in just 30 minutes, meaning even a quick charge before sleep can keep your health insights running smoothly.
Track Ovulation and Temperature Trends
Your Apple Watch can measure wrist temperature while you sleep, helping you monitor fluctuations influenced by diet, exercise, sleep quality, and even menstrual cycles. If you're a Cycle Tracking user with Apple Watch Series 8 or later, you can use this data to estimate the likely day of ovulation after it occurs, improving period predictions.
💡 Tip: Make sure Sleep Tracking and Sleep Focus are enabled to receive accurate wrist temperature data.
Monitor Your Mental Well-Being with State of Mind
Mental health is just as important as physical health, and Apple Watch helps you keep track of it. The State of Mind feature lets you log daily moods and emotions, providing insights into how factors like sleep, exercise, and time in daylight affect your mental well-being.
💡 Tip: Use the Journal app to record your thoughts, and the time spent journaling will be reflected in your Mindful Minutes in the Health app.
Get More Sunlight for Better Health
Spending time outdoors can have significant benefits for both physical and mental health. Apple Watch's ambient light sensor estimates the time you spend in daylight each day, helping you track whether you're getting enough natural light exposure.
💡 Tip: Aim for at least 20 minutes of outdoor time daily to support overall well-being. You can view how your time spent in daylight influences your mental health in the State of Mind app.
Never Miss a Medication with the Medications App
The Medications app makes it easy to keep track of your prescriptions, supplements, and vitamins with discreet reminders on your Apple Watch. If you forget to log a medication, the app will send a follow-up alert 30 minutes after the scheduled time.
💡 Tip: Enable follow-up reminders to ensure you never miss an important dose.
The Apple Watch is more than just a fitness tracker—it's a holistic health companion designed to help you stay proactive about your well-being. Whether it's monitoring vitals, tracking sleep, enhancing mental wellness, or ensuring you never miss a medication, these simple yet powerful features make health tracking effortless. By making small adjustments to your daily habits and utilizing these smart Apple Watch tricks, you can take charge of your health in 2024 and beyond.

Apple to add Braille support on iOS 19 as it prepares for WWDC
Apple will be adding a suite of new accessibility features on its devices this year, including Braille support, on the next iterations of its operating systems, as it prepares for its annual developer conference. The writing system for the visually impaired will be integrated for note taking, maths and science calculations, live captions and transcriptions, and reading Braille Ready Format files, Apple said on Tuesday, ahead of the Worldwide Developers Conference in June. The WWDC, Apple's main event for software, is expected to introduce iOS 19 for the iPhone, alongside the corresponding systems for the iPad, Mac, Watch and TV. The new version of iOS is typically released with the next generation of iPhones, which are expected in September. Braille was invented by Louis Braille in the 1820s to help people with vision impairments read and write. While technology and audio aids have increased in recent years, it remains a key learning tool, said the New England College of Optometry. The system is used by about six million visually impaired people around the world, according to the Louis Braille Museum, east of Paris. Apple will also be introducing Accessibility Nutrition Labels, which show users if features such as voice control, magnified text and reduced motion are available on apps. An enhanced magnifier for Macs and 'enhanced view' for the Vision Pro augmented reality headset will also be added, Apple said. The latter is specifically aimed at helping people who are blind or have low vision. An accessibility reader to help those with dyslexia or low vision will also be introduced. Apple's upcoming accessibility features are 'tools to help people access crucial information', chief executive Tim Cook said. The set of updates comes as Apple continues to focus on health technology, which has become a key driver of its services unit, which has boosted revenue in recent years. In March, Apple launched its latest Hearing Aid and Hearing Test services in Saudi Arabia, giving people in the kingdom free access to the health technologies.

The Scientific Committee of the 11th edition of the International Conference in Dermatology and Aesthetics (AIDA) in Abu Dhabi, organised a scientific medical competition on the sidelines of the conference with participation of five teams from the GCC countries. The Emirati medical team, comprising three newly graduated female dermatologists, Dr. Fatima Al Qaidi, Dr. Al Reem Al Hosani, and Dr. Aisha Al Shawab, who are in internship at Rashid Hospital in Dubai, won the competition. The UAE medical team was awarded first place, as determined by the scientific committee, which comprised specialists and experts from the conference's participating countries in the fields of dermatology and aesthetics. The five participating teams, representing the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Kuwait, were presented with medical cases and asked medical questions. These cases were then subject to medical diagnosis by members of the participating medical teams. The second day of the 11th edition of AIDA witnessed a series of significant scientific and medical lectures that focused on the utilisation of artificial intelligence in medical contexts, including cyber cosmetic surgery and next-generation cosmetic practices. The lectures highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence to facilitate smarter, safer and more effective treatments, as well as skin rejuvenation through DNA. Additionally, the use of regenerative medicine in aesthetic medicine was explored, along with facial treatments derived from salmon semen, which represent recent trends in rejuvenation and radiance. In addition, a number of medical issues in the field of dermatology and nursing were discussed, including: laser treatment for skin of colour, with a focus on achieving optimal results and avoiding complications; clinical-pathological correlations in pigmentation disorders; the aetiology of emerging skin diseases; biological therapies in children; eczema and food allergies; and the management of Alzheimer's disease through drugs that regenerate neurons. Furthermore, a series of workshops were organised for medical professionals, with the aim of training them in the treatment of various cases, as well as in the optimal and safe use of dermatological and cosmetic treatments, and in facial rejuvenation. The implementation of these workshops was facilitated by the introduction of novel pharmaceutical agents and the integration of a contemporary ultrasound apparatus, which served to facilitate safe injection procedures. This technology provides medical professionals with a visualisation of the layers of the skin in colour, thereby enabling them to safely perform injection procedures. In addition, a workshop on iPhoneography, in collaboration with Apple was conducted to provide instruction on the use of the latest iPhone model to capture images of skin disease sites that are both clear and accurate. The workshop examined the technical capabilities of the device, which assist the medical team in treatment and document the treatment process through pre and post-operative photography. A training workshop was also organised on the use of threads in cosmetic surgery, training doctors on safe procedures by identifying facial layers and arterial locations. Concurrently, the Emirates Society of Dermatology convened a meeting to deliberate contemporary advancements in the dermatological domain and prevailing treatment methodologies. In addition, a special session was held by the Canadian Board of Dermatology, with a focus on the safe new uses for dermatological treatments and the future of cosmetic surgery.
