Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong clash over their falling out in new documentary: ‘That's a lie'

Cheech vs. Chong.
Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong rehashed the rift that led to their 1985 breakup as a comedy duo in the new documentary film 'Cheech & Chong's Last Movie.'
In a present day scene, the pair discussed how Chong, 86, directed four of their films together. Chong told Marin, 78, that he 'never earned' being the director on their movies, according to People.

'You can't say say, 'Because I was there with the other that directed, I should be a director,'' Chong said to the fellow comedian in a car.
'Did I direct as much as you did in the movie?' Marin asked Chong.
'No. No, never,' Chong responded.

'See, that's a lie,' Marin said with a laugh.
When Chong questioned Marin's statement, Marin explained, 'Of course, it's a lie. I directed just as much as you did in the movie. You know, when we had to… This isn't really worth going into.'
The duo then sat in silence in the car.

Earlier in the documentary, Marin said in a current-day confessional that Chong's ego was 'always quite large.' Marin added, 'He got an ego out of proportion to his actual talent.'
Chong, meanwhile, said in a confessional that he was 'the star of all the movies' that he did with Marin.

In an old clip, an interviewer asked the duo, 'Did you ever get on one another's nerves to the point that you get mad and don't speak for a while?'
'Not Cheech & Chong,' Marin replied.
But Chong, who was sitting beside Marin, nodded his head yes.

The stars created their first movie, 1978's 'Up in Smoke,' based on two popular characters from their stage act and albums, Pedro (Cheech) and Man (Chong).
They became stoner icons and released more films, before the tension in their relationship led to them breaking up as a comedy duo. They have reunited sporadically since their split.

In 2017, Marin told The Post that he and Chong were on good terms again.
'When we first got back together, there was still a lot of animosity, and it persisted for a while. But eventually it kind of waned,' the 'Nash Bridges' star said. 'I think when health issues come into play, you do another assessment. He was sick for a while. He's fine now. But it took awhile to get there.'

When asked if they'll do another film together, Marin said, 'I don't think so, no. There's too many blocks to that. We're on the road all the time, playing casinos. We have been for eight years.'
'Cheech & Chong's Last Movie' is now playing in select theaters.

‘Spider-Man' and ‘One Life to Live' star Jack Betts dead at 96

Jack Betts has passed away at 96 years old. The actor starred on the soap opera 'One Life to Live' from 1979 to 1985, appearing in 20 episodes as Llanview Hospital's Dr. Ivan Kipling. Betts' nephew, Dean Sullivan, told The Hollywood Reporter that the star died in his sleep at his house in Los Osos, California, on Thursday. 7 Jack Betts at The Cocktail Hour play opening, LA, California, April 19, 1990. The two would attend events together over the years and Roberts even directed a play written by Betts, about a soap opera, titled 'Screen Test: Take One.' The close pals first met in 1954 at The Actors Studio in New York City in 1954. Decades later, in 1988, Betts accepted Roberts' offer to move from the Big Apple into the downstairs apartment at her Hollywood Hills home. 7 Actor Jack Betts. Columbia Pictures 'We were best friends to the very end, we had wonderful times together,' he gushed following her death. Betts was also known for starring as Henry Balkan – the Oscorp board chair who fired Norman Osborn (Willem Defoe) – in Sam Raimi's 2002 'Spider-Man.' Norman then became the villainous Green Goblin and vaporized Henry and the board. While on 'The Dev Show' in 2020, Betts spoke about filming the Oscorp boardroom shot and how he asked Raimi, 65, if he could add some of his own spin onto the scene. 7 Jack Betts is seen on May 6, 2016. 'After, I finished it, [Raimi] said, 'That's it. Terrific. Print that one.'' 'My point being is that I wanted to add something just a little different to it instead of doing it the same way over and over and over and over. [Raimi] he was willing to do that. He really was. Wonderful man to work with.' The Hollywood vet was raised in Jersey City, New Jersey, before moving to Miami with his family at age 10. The actor received his degree in theater from the University of Miami, and shortly after graduation, relocated to New York to begin acting. 7 Jose Ferrer, Jack Betts in 'Another World.' Courtesy Everett Collection Betts landed his first role as a supporting actor in the 1953 Broadway adaptation of William Shakespeare's 'Richard III.' For two seasons, from 1960 to 1962, Betts played detective Chris Devlin in the CBS mystery series 'Checkmate' opposite Anthony George, Sebastian Cabot and Doug McClure. The show, created by Eric Ambler, followed private detectives solving cases in San Francisco with the help of a British criminologist. Betts appeared four times on CBS' Perry Mason from 1961-66 before he met Giraldi about starring in Sugar Colt. He told the director that he could ride a horse and had just won a shooting contest — of course, he had never been on a horse or handled a gun — but he spent the next three weeks learning those skills at John Wayne's ranch before reporting for duty at Cinecittà in Rome. Shortly after, he entered the soap opera world, landing a role on 'General Hospital' from 1963 to 1965. 7 Jack Betts, Barbara Lord, Peter Falk in 'The Bloody Brood.' Some of Betts most memorable television roles included 'Seinfeld,' 'Frasier,' 'Everybody Loves Raymond,' 'Monk,' and 'Friends.' His last credited series was on the Freeform drama 'Good Trouble' in 2019. 7 Barbara Bain, Jack Betts in 'Silver Skies.' Courtesy Everett Collection When Betts stepped onto the spaghetti Western scene in 1966 as the title character Hunt Powers in Franco Giraldi's 'Sugar Colt,' he was able to turn that film into 15 others until 1973. But Betts didn't get the same credit as a certain fellow western star did. 'In the hotel next to mine was Clint Eastwood,' he recounted in a 2021 interview. 'He'd go up to his mountain and do his Western and I'd go up to my mountain and do my Western. But while his films had distribution all over the world, my films were distributed [everywhere] except Canada and America.' Betts is survived by his sister, Joan – who is set to turn 100 this year – nephew Dean, and nieces, Lynee and Gail.

All About David Corenswet's Wife, Julia Warner

Superman actor David Corenswet plays a man leading an epic double-life. The star has some experience there, because he keeps his off-screen world extremely private. Corenswet is married to his wife, Julia Best Warner, with whom he shares one child. But his Instagram is almost entirely promotion for the upcoming DC flick and he has shared very little info about his family. Here's everything that is known about Warner and her relationship with the superhero. Like Corenswet, Warner is an actor. Per her LinkedIn profile, she studied Fine Arts in Theater Arts Acting at Point Park University in Pittsburgh. According to her IMDb page, she has also tried her hand at producing and directing, and has credits with The Baby Sitters Pub, Ratched, and Pretty Little Things. In 2018, she wrote a tribute to her work at the Pittsburgh Playhouse. She seems to be close to her family, and posted about cutting down the family Christmas tree with other Warners in 2020. And she and Corenswet share a Cavalier King Charles spaniel named Ira: 'He's less of a doggy, more of a toddler,' Corenswet told People, adding that the seven-year-old dog 'has a wonderful mohawk, a natural tuft of hair right between his eyes, which is the reason he's disqualified from being shown [making him] adoptable.' According to an interview with People in June 2025, the pair met as teenagers at a Pennsylvania summer theater program and had a 'slow-burn' romance. They were married in March 2023. In 2022, Warner shared a carousel of pics that included Corenswet. Corenswet and Warner welcomed a daughter in 2024, though they have kept her name private. In his interview with People, Corenswet said, 'I feel like I've been a dad for a long time, and just waiting for a kid to prove it. My dad was an enthusiastic father and stayed home with my sister for a period when she was very little, and was very good with kids. And so I think I just inherited that. I liked being a camp counselor, and I have terrible jokes that nobody laughs at.' The baby arrived in close conjunction with the beginning of his Superman journey, prompting him to add, 'Two big unknown things at the same time. And they were both great things.'
