TV chef Heston Blumenthal has spoken of the moment he was sectioned as being like a living "nightmare" but said he has had a lot of "wonderful responses" from people after his diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
The restaurateur has spoken widely of his mental health issues in recent months, and told the I'm ADHD! No You're Not podcast that "talking is the most important thing".

"Sharing stories helps us realise we are not alone," he said.

"The more we share, the more we normalise.
"It's OK to not be OK.
"I had an awful lot of wonderful responses to the things that I've been saying and talking about.

"From either people that have bipolar, or neurodiverse people.
"Also from people who've lived with people with bipolar."
Blumenthal, who presented Channel 4 shows Heston's Fantastical Food and Heston's Feasts, was sectioned following a manic episode and given a diagnosis of bipolar disorder in November 2023.

Appearing on the podcast, which is presented by comedian Paul Whitehouse and his wife Dr Mine Conkbayir, Blumenthal described how he was forcibly pinned down on his sofa and given an injection to sedate him so he could be sectioned.
"There were nine people there, and they said, 'We're going to give you an injection and take you to hospital'.
"I got pinned on the sofa, my arms crossed, two people on each arm.

"I was fighting, and I saw the doctor pull out this massive syringe and I thought it was like a nightmare I used to have as a kid."
Blumenthal, known for his experimental dishes including snail porridge and bacon and egg ice cream, has been awarded seven Michelin stars over the course of his career.
An hour-long film, Heston: My Life With Bipolar, is due to air on BBC Two on Thursday.

He revealed his safety test for it, saying: "I always think if you can fit a 10p coin in one it might be serious. Potential owners should also "take note of light fittings plug sockets" such as how many there are, where they are located and whether or not they will work for your needs. ‌ If you're specifically viewing a flat, look outside, he suggested. Phil said: "When you're viewing a flat, very much check out the communal area areas. What are they like? Are they tidy? Are they well looked-after and cared for? "Listen for a noise from neighbours, try to visit at different times and take your time. I really do mean that. It's a big decision and you don't want to do in a hurry. Your dream home should feel good. It should stand up to scrutiny", he concluded. Moving home tips - including an 'essentials box' On his Move iQ website, the founder notes that when moving, it's ideal to pack an 'essentials box'. Unpacking after a move can take time, especially with so much to organise in a new home, Phil stressed. ‌ Because of this, items like toothbrushes, tea and coffee, phone chargers, and other daily essentials should be packed last so they can be unpacked first. To make things easier, each household member should have an essentials box or bag with their must-have items readily accessible. In another tip, he urged people to never overfill boxes just to keep your number of boxes down. He warned: "This is absolutely crucial, irrelevant of whether you're using a removals company or doing the move on your own. Boxes which are too heavy will become a hazard to anyone that carries them: the last thing you want is a visit to A&E on moving day. "You might have heard some moving house 'horror story', where things might have gone wrong on moving day. But boxes that are too heavy create the possibility of them being dropped, valuables being broken or frantic last minute repacking. By this, we don't mean having a scale at hand to weigh every box you pack. Gordon Ramsay reveals moment he 'collapsed' while holding his son for the first

Gordon Ramsay has opened up about the alarming moment he fainted during the birth of his fifth child, Oscar. The TV chef, 58, recalled the scary moment with a few chuckles in hindsight while appearing on a recent podcast. The Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares star was not present in the delivery room for the arrival of his first four children – Megan, 26, twins Jack and Holly, 25, and Tilly, 23 – at the request of his wife Tana, 50. 'Let's make one thing absolutely clear, my wife didn't want me in there,' Gordon explained on SmartLess podcast. 'First of all, [Tana] said, 'I want my mum and your mum in there, you're not going to see me in that state, that side of the curtain, get out of there.' That was her decision and I had to respect that decision. Talking about the arrival of Oscar in 2019, Gordon said: 'When I did finally arrive in the theatre for our fifth baby I collapsed like a wimp! I blacked out holding Oscar in the air.' 'There was a lot of commotion going on,' Gordon recalled, 'I said, 'Can you play Ed Sheeran?' so they started playing Ed. They turned up the volume. 'I saw two more doctors dive in, I looked on the floor and there was blood everywhere. All of a sudden they popped him out and they came straight over to me and I went, 'Wow, wow, wow!' I sat back and collapsed like an idiot.' The pair kept Tana's pregnancy with Jesse tightly under wraps until his arrival, with the mum-of-six taking to social media after he was born revealing they'd endured a 'nerve-wracking 9 months'. She also added: 'Ramsay family complete.' Talking on the Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast in 2024, Tana opened up about Gordon's lack of presence in the delivery room. 'He would've gotten all squeamish and probably fainted and all the attention would've been on him, and this is my moment,' she said, mirroring Gordon's story hilariously closely. Tonight's latest instalment of Open House: The Great Sex Experiment sees newly married couple Sharmayne, 26, and Jamie, 29, from Essex push the boundaries in their relationship.
