In Ghaziabad, 37k fined for traffic violations in 1 month
Ghaziabad: Traffic police issued over 37,000 fines to helmetless riders, wrong-side motorists, and other violators during a road safety drive from May 8 to June 6. Penalties were also issued to auto and e-rickshaw drivers for traffic violations.
Of the total, 23,941 challans have been issued to riders without helmets and 4,759 to motorists caught driving on the wrong side. A total of 236 people were caught and penalised for driving under the influence of alcohol as well.
Police crackdown also resulted in 4,738 challans being issued to auto-rickshaw drivers for carrying excess passengers. Additionally, 2,719 penalties were issued for three persons riding on two-wheelers, while 954 four-wheeler drivers were fined for not using seat belts.
Overall, more than 37,000 fines have been issued for various violations as part of the enforcement drive, so far.
"The traffic police urge the public and drivers to always follow traffic rules, use helmets for both the driver and the passenger, drive in the designated direction, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol, do not overload auto rickshaws or e-rickshaws, do not drive four-wheelers without a seat belt, and avoid carrying three passengers on a two-wheeler.

Retired man loses 2.4cr to insurance cyber scam
Mumbai: A 65-year-old retired man from Shivaji Park was cheated online by fraudsters impersonating as officials of Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA), NSDL, NPCI, and leading banks. Under the pretext of helping him recover his lapsed insurance policy, they duped him of Rs 2.36 crore. According to the police, a retired professional's ordeal began on Nov 5, 2024, when the man received a WhatsApp voice call from a man identifying himself as Dinesh Chaturvedi, an employee of IRDA. The caller claimed he could help recover premium amounts from seven of the victim's lapsed insurance policies. The caller also produced a company ID card which was fake. The complainant was then instructed to share his policy details via email after which he was told to pay Rs 49,606 as processing fee. Convinced that he would receive Rs 24.8 lakh refund, he transferred the money to a bank account shared by the scammers. Soon after, he was told to pay tax of Rs 6 lakh initially—which he paid. Pilot molestation: Aggregator cab driver arrested, Mumbai police hunt for his 2 friends
Mumbai: The Mumbai: Ghatkopar police on Sunday arrested the aggregator cab driver who allegedly re-routed his vehicle while driving a 28-year-old woman pilot home on June 19 night, and stopped and allowed in his two friends who went on to sexually harass her. Police are still looking for the two men. The arrested accused, Gajeelul Hassan Shaikh (25), was produced before the Dadar holiday court, which remanded him to three days of police custody. In her complaint, the pilot said that she reached CSMT to meet her husband on June 19 evening. At 10.45pm, her husband booked the cab in Fort for her to go home in the eastern suburbs. "After travelling for about 25 minutes, the driver suddenly changed the route, stopped the vehicle and allowed two unknown men to get in. One of them sat in the front seat, and the other sat next to me in the rear. They were aged between 25 and 30," the complainant stated in the FIR. She added the man sitting next to her grabbed her right hand and twisted it backwards. As she screamed in fear, the other man sitting in the front passenger seat threatened her to be quiet. The driver stayed silent, she said in her complaintFIR. She added she was in a state of panic, paid the fare of Rs 530, and he left. On June 20 night, she and her husband filed a complaint at Ghatkopar police station. An FIR was registered the next day and Shaikh was tracked down based on the booking details of the cab. Police are yet to seize the vehicle. Police have booked Shaikh and the two unidentified men under sections 75(1) (sexual harassment), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 3 (5) (when a criminal act is done by several persons in furtherance of the common intention of all, each of such persons is liable for that act in the same manner as if done by him alone) of the BNS.
