Pranati well prepared for Women's Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships
Kolkata: After grabbing a bronze medal at FIG World Cup in Antalya, Turkey, in March early this year, Pranati Nayak will be looking to put up another strong performance at Women's Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships to be held in Jecheon, South Korea, from June 12-15.
It will be quite a challenge for the veteran gymnast though in the Vault apparatus as the top athletes from all over the continent will be participating in the tournament including 49-year-old Oksana Chusovitina of Uzbekistan.
However, according to her coach Ashok Mishra, the two-time Asian Championships bronze medallist is well prepared and was quite impressive during the final training sessions.
"Pranati is in great shape physically and mentally and is full of confidence.
She did really well during the podium training and was able to get a lot of speed while making the runs which will no doubt help her," said Mishra, during an interaction from Jecheon.
The two vaults that she will be performing are — Tsukahara 720 Twist with fixed landing and Handspring Pike Salto with a 360-degree turn. She has been doing the first vault for a while now but the second one is something she has added to her armoury recently.

Although, she did struggle with it at times, she pulled it off perfectly on the final day ahead of the event and Mishra, who trains her at Gymnastics High-Performance Centre in Bhubaneswar, sounded quite pleased with it. Moreover, she has also been working on her leg strength over the past few months and its showing in her performance.
Besides Nayak, the other athletes who will be representing India in the senior category are Protistha Samanta, Bidisha Gayen, Sneha Tariyal and Ritu Das.
Meanwhile, Sreeparna Debnath, Sakshi Dalvi, Tora Saini and Avantika Negi will be competing in the junior section and coach Bishweshwar Nandi is hopeful of a good showing from the youngsters.
"It's their first international tournament, and it's important for them to gain as much experience as possible. We always hope they will be able to perform what they have been training for. Based on that, we start having expectations, but this sport is all about technique, and it's not possible to do something you haven't learned," said Nandi, who trained Dipa Karmakar and helped her make it to the Olympics.
Nandi though has a big task at hand now as he has been working with the juniors ahead of the event alongside coach Jimmi Anjana in Bhubaneswar. However, one of the junior members of the team — Priti Jhankar from Odisha — will sadly miss the event after she got infected with chicken pox and has been put in quarantine.

Shubman Gill (Pic credit: BCCI) NEW DELHI: India's new Test captain Shubman Gill marked a memorable start to his red-ball leadership by notching multiple milestones during the opening day of the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds, on Friday. Live Score: India vs England, 1st Test Day 1 The 25-year-old Gill smashed his fastest Test half-century, reaching the mark in just 56 balls with eight crisp boundaries. It was his eighth Test fifty overall and his highest score in England so far, coming in his fourth Test appearance in the country. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! In the process, Gill also became the ninth Indian player to score a fifty in his maiden innings as Test captain, and the youngest to do so at 25 years and 285 days. He brought up the landmark with a stylish four off England pacer Josh Tongue, anchoring India's innings alongside opener Yashasvi Jaiswal after KL Rahul's dismissal. Poll Do you think Shubman Gill can lead India to success in Test cricket? Yes, he has the potential. No, he lacks experience. This outing not only underlined Gill's form but also his readiness to lead India through a critical transitional phase following the Test retirements of legends Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and R Ashwin. Earlier, England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl, putting India in on a bright, hot day. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Ductless Air Conditioners Are Selling Like Crazy [See Why] Keep Cool Click Here Undo Gill, speaking at the toss, noted, 'Would've bowled first as well. Might be a bit tough in the first session but it should get better for batting.' IND vs ENG: Did Sanjay Manjrekar take a dig at Virat Kohli in commentary? Watch video
File photo of Sanjay Manjrekar and Virat Kohli. Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar seemingly made indirect comments about Virat Kohli during the commentary of the first Test match between India and England at Headingley, Leeds on June 20. The remarks came during the 21st over of India's innings when the team were 77/0, with KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal at the crease. LIVE: India vs England 1st Test Day 1 Manjrekar's comments focused on the batting approach of the Indian openers, particularly their handling of deliveries outside the off-stump. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! While analysing the batting performance, Manjrekar initially praised the discipline shown by the Indian openers. He stressed how they were playing according to the merit of the ball despite the seemingly batting-friendly conditions. How Shubman Gill prepared for the first Test vs England in Leeds | Exclusive from Nets "Many would see this session and would think the pitch is placid. The seam bowlers haven't looked potent, one important reason it is seeing that way is these two have batted well. Potentially wicket-taking, outside the off-stump full and they have been left alone. Jaiswal has done that, anything that has pitched right up into the stump is driven anything that has pitched wide is not disturbed," Manjrekar said. The commentary took a different turn when Brydon Carse bowled a delivery on the sixth stump line to KL Rahul, who left it alone. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? We know of a former batter that would have gone after it and got himself into trouble but not these two," Manjrekar remarked during the live broadcast. The reference appeared to be directed at Kohli , who had recently announced his retirement from Test cricket. The context became clearer considering Kohli's performance during India's previous tour of Australia, where he was dismissed eight out of nine times while attempting to play deliveries pitched on the fifth and sixth stump line. Nick Knight EXCLUSIVE: On Shubman Gill and absence of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma in England The match proceeded with India's opening partnership reaching 91 runs before KL Rahul was dismissed by Brydon Carse for 42 runs off 78 balls. Rahul's dismissal came when he attempted to play a wide delivery outside off-stump, which resulted in an edge carried to Joe Root in the slip cordon. Following Rahul's wicket, debutant Sai Sudharsan was dismissed for a four-ball duck in the next over bowled by Ben Stokes. Sudharsan was caught behind by wicketkeeper Jamie Smith.
