Pranati Nayak vaults to her third bronze medal at Asian Championships
Pranati Nayak on Saturday won her third medal at the Women's Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Vault in Jecheon, South Korea. Nayak, who won the bronze medal twice in 2019 Ulaanbaatar and 2022 Doha, once again finished third in the standings with a score of 13.466. The gold medal was won by China's Zhang Yihan with a score of 13.650 and the silver went to Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Quynh Nhu, who got a score of 13.583. Meanwhile, India's Protistha Samanta also impressed during the same event and finished fourth with a score of 13.016. For Nayak, who struggled with a lot of injuries last year, 2025 has been a remarkable year so far. Not only did she win a bronze in the Vault final at the FIG World Cup in Antalya, Turkey, in March, she also won the gold in the All-Around final in artistic gymnastics at the National Games, besides a silver and two bronze medals. As far as this tournament is concerned, Nayak, who trains at the Gymnastics High-Performance Centre in Bhubaneswar, made it to the finals after qualifying in fourth place with a score of 13.083. As her coach Ashok Mishra had said earlier, she was quite confident of a good showing during the tournament and she did exactly that when it mattered. However, during the first vault — Tsukahara 720 Twist with fixed landing — Nayak took a couple of steps during her landing that resulted in a 0.3 deduction, something that might have ruined her chance of bagging a silver. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pinga-Pinga e HBP? "The score for the second vault during the final was even higher than that in the qualifying round. She will just have to fix her pre-flight and she will be all set. The next big target is to make it to the finals of the World Championships to be held in Jakarta in October and she has all the time now to perfect the executions," coach Mishra told TOI during an interaction from Jecheon on Saturday. While that will be quite a challenging task, the coach is confident of Nayak putting up a big show at the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games next year. Mishra, meanwhile, was also pleased with Samanta's performance, "She has a lot of power and reached very good height during her vaults and is a medal prospect for the future. In order to achieve that, she will need to perform vaults with more difficulty." However, it's time now to celebrate Nayak's achievements, who has been India's only beacon of hope in gymnastics after Olympian Dipa Karmakar called time on her career last year. Pranati Nayak Clinches Bronze In Vault At Asian Gymnastics Championships
Last Updated: Pranati Nayak bagged bronze in the vault final at the 12th Senior Women's Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in South Korea. Indian gymnast Pranati Nayak secured a bronze medal in the vault final at the 12th Senior Women's Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jecheon, South Korea, on Saturday. The 30-year-old, who also claimed bronze at the FIG World Cup in Antalya, Turkey, in March this year, scored 13.466 to finish third. China's Yihan Zhang won gold with a score of 13.650, while Vietnam's Thi Quynh Nhu Nguyen took silver with 13.583. Young Indian gymnast Protistha Samanta narrowly missed a medal, finishing fourth with a score of 13.016 at the Jecheon Gymnasium. This achievement marks Nayak's third medal at the continental championships, surpassing veteran gymnast Dipa Karmakar's two medals. Nayak previously won bronze in the vault at the 2019 edition in Ulaanbaatar and again in 2022 in Doha. Karmakar won her first continental medal, a vault bronze, at Hiroshima in 2015 and followed it with gold in Tashkent earlier this year. Nayak, a Tokyo 2020 Olympian, scored a strong 13.666 in her first vault attempt in the final, but a lower second score of 12.866 affected her overall result. She had entered the final after placing fourth in the qualification round with a score of 13.083. Protistha also made it to the medal round, qualifying with a commendable 12.916. Pranati well prepared for Women's Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships
Kolkata: After grabbing a bronze medal at FIG World Cup in Antalya, Turkey, in March early this year, Pranati Nayak will be looking to put up another strong performance at Women's Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships to be held in Jecheon, South Korea, from June 12-15. It will be quite a challenge for the veteran gymnast though in the Vault apparatus as the top athletes from all over the continent will be participating in the tournament including 49-year-old Oksana Chusovitina of Uzbekistan. However, according to her coach Ashok Mishra, the two-time Asian Championships bronze medallist is well prepared and was quite impressive during the final training sessions. "Pranati is in great shape physically and mentally and is full of confidence. She did really well during the podium training and was able to get a lot of speed while making the runs which will no doubt help her," said Mishra, during an interaction from Jecheon. The two vaults that she will be performing are — Tsukahara 720 Twist with fixed landing and Handspring Pike Salto with a 360-degree turn. She has been doing the first vault for a while now but the second one is something she has added to her armoury recently. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like استخدام مواد قابلة لإعادة التدوير يقلل النفايات بنسبة 50٪ Visionary Echo ابحث الآن Undo Although, she did struggle with it at times, she pulled it off perfectly on the final day ahead of the event and Mishra, who trains her at Gymnastics High-Performance Centre in Bhubaneswar, sounded quite pleased with it. Moreover, she has also been working on her leg strength over the past few months and its showing in her performance. Besides Nayak, the other athletes who will be representing India in the senior category are Protistha Samanta, Bidisha Gayen, Sneha Tariyal and Ritu Das. Meanwhile, Sreeparna Debnath, Sakshi Dalvi, Tora Saini and Avantika Negi will be competing in the junior section and coach Bishweshwar Nandi is hopeful of a good showing from the youngsters. "It's their first international tournament, and it's important for them to gain as much experience as possible. We always hope they will be able to perform what they have been training for. Based on that, we start having expectations, but this sport is all about technique, and it's not possible to do something you haven't learned," said Nandi, who trained Dipa Karmakar and helped her make it to the Olympics. Nandi though has a big task at hand now as he has been working with the juniors ahead of the event alongside coach Jimmi Anjana in Bhubaneswar. However, one of the junior members of the team — Priti Jhankar from Odisha — will sadly miss the event after she got infected with chicken pox and has been put in quarantine.
