On June 6, around 11 a.m., deputies in Sumter County, S.C., received a call about a disturbance involving a gun on Green View Parkway. The suspect left before deputies arrived.
Witnesses told investigators the suspect, identified as Nikolas Steven Kirchner, 38, pointed a gun at multiple people and threatened to shoot them.
Investigators said he allegedly held a family member at gunpoint and forced another to go inside the home to get someone else, threatening to shoot the hostage in the head if they didn't do what he said.
According to reports, a family member came out of the house armed, causing Kirchner to get his car and drive away while the family member was on the phone with dispatch.

Just before 4 p.m., Taliaferro County deputies received a 911 call about a driver who saw a suspicious person on the shoulder of the highway.
The witness told deputies the man was wearing a white and red baseball cap, kneeling with one hand raised. When deputies searched the man's name in the database, they confirmed it was Kirchner.
The TCSO said they also learned he was the same person wanted out of Sumter, S.C. and was a suspect in a recent homicide in Pinellas County, Fla.
During the investigation, officials said the 38-year-old admitted to killing two people and said that he had abandoned a stolen Nissan Pathfinder along Interstate 20. Deputies found the car in Pinellas County, Fla.

Simultaneously, the Pinellas County Sheriff's office in Fla. was conducting its own investigation into two homicides.
Pinellas County authorities said, around 12:35 p.m., that Friday afternoon, deputies executed a welfare check at a home on Saunders Avenue in Largo, after a company said an employee did not show up to work.
When deputies arrived, they found Elizabeth Lee Kirchner, 53, and Steven Eric Kirchner, 64, dead in the living room from apparent gunshot wounds.
Detectives said they learned the victims' son, Nicholas Kirchner, left the home. Detectives got a call from Sumter County authorities regarding the incident Nicholas was involved in earlier.
According to officials, during the incident, Nicholas Kirchner said, 'I've already killed two people – I'll kill some more.'
Nicholas admitted multiple times that he killed his parents and described it as a 'righteous kill,' according to the PCSO.
Nicholas was ultimately arrested and taken into custody by the Taliaferro County Sheriff's Office.
Nicholas was transported to the McDuffie County Jail in Georgia with a felony warrant for two counts of first-degree murder premeditated.

Grieving parents awarded $2.25M after Georgia doctor plastered videos of their decapitated baby on social media
A Georgia couple whose baby was decapacitated during childbirth was awarded a $2.25 million verdict after their pathologist posted graphic autopsy videos on social media without their consent. Dr. Jackson Gates and his Atlanta-based business will have to fork over the large sum to Jessica Ross and Traveon Taylor Sr. after a Fulton County jury found him liable of emotional distress, invasion of privacy, and fraud on Wednesday. 'This young couple trusted him with the remains of their precious baby,' attorney's for the grieving parents said, noting that the doctor 'poured salt into the couple's already deep wounds.' 3 Jessica Ross and Treveon Taylor Sr., parents of a baby who was decapitated during childbirth. AP 'Gates, in turn, repaid this trust by posting horrific images of their child for the world to see.' The heartbroken couple hired the twisted doctor to perform an autopsy on their deceased newborn two days after their obstetrician allegedly applied excessive force to the baby's neck when its shoulders became stuck in Ross's pelvic area, causing it to detach during the traumatic July 2023 delivery. 3 The traumatic delivery occurred at Southern Regional Medical Center in July 2023. ERIK S LESSER/EPA-EFE/Shutterstock The baby's head was delivered vaginally, but the rest of the body was removed via C-section. The death was later ruled a homicide. Gates posted numerous videos and photos to his Instagram later that month, showing the grisly postmortem examination of their infants 'decapitated, severed head,' the couple said in their lawsuit. The deranged pathologist initially removed the footage after receiving a letter from the couple's attorney — but later reposted them, according to the lawsuit. 3 The couple was awarded $2.25 million in a lawsuit against their pathologist. AP Gates' attorney, Ira Livant, said his client typically documents his autopsy's on social media to educate fellow pathologists and highlight the importance of independent examinations in cases where families suspect medical misconduct. 'Dr. Gates testified that he is deeply sorry for any harm that he unintentionally caused the plaintiffs,' Livant said Saturday. 'Had he known for one second that they would see that and that they would know it was their child, he would never have done it.' The couple will receive $2 million in compensatory damages and an additional $250,000 in punitive damages from Gates and his company, Medical Diagnostics Choices, per the judgement. The bereaved parents have separate lawsuits pending against the delivering doctor and the Riverdale hospital where the horrific incident took place. With Post wires.

Atlanta man charged with murder in death of Columbus teen struck in mass shooting
A 19-year-old Atlanta man is charged with murder in the mass shooting death of an 18-year-old Columbus teen who graduated high school just days before his death. Mohamed Fofana is charged with murder in the June 14 death of Jusiah Mason, according to charges filed Franklin County Municipal Court documents. Authorities issued a warrant for Fofana's arrest June 20. The Franklin County Jail does not list him as a current inmate in the facility, nor is he listed as an inmate in the Fulton County Jail in Georgia. Jusiah was one of seven people shot shortly after 3 a.m. June 14 near the intersection of South Ludlow and West Town streets near the Scioto River in downtown Columbus. Six other people, including one juvenile, survived their injuries. An eighth person suffered an injury while fleeing the gunfire. An affidavit contained in the arrest warrant for Fofana's arrest says that police identified him through video surveillance footage. The report says that the video showed the gunshots came from a blue 2017 BMW X3 with an Ohio license plate. Police said they identified Fofana as the car's owner. The next day, Fofana boarded an airplane and flew back to Atlanta, according to Det. Lowell Titus II, who wrote the affidavit. Jusiah celebrated his birthday on May 31, the day after graduating from Columbus City School's Beechcroft High School. He loved writing and performing rap music, as well as filming skits with his friends, his mother Shanai Neal previously told the Dispatch. Columbus City School Board members honored Jusiah at a June 17 meeting, urging parents to "check up on" their kids and called his death "devastating." Jusiah was part of a program teaching students "restorative practices," which focuses on building relationships and preventing conflict, Board Vice President Jennifer Adair said. The Uvalde Foundation, created after the 2022 school massacre in that Texas town, had offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to arrests. It's unclear whether that award will get claimed as a result of the charges against Fofana. Jusiah's family has started a GoFundMe to help cover his funeral expenses.
