'She is wrong': Trump makes bold claim on Iran's nuclear plans, again challenges US intelligence chief Tulsi Gabbard

Tearing into the
US intelligence community
, President Donald Trump said his director of national intelligence was 'wrong' when she testified that Iran was not building a nuclear weapon. The President told reporters that he now believes Tehran has a 'tremendous amount' of enriched uranium that could build a bomb in just a few weeks.
The comments come after Trump earlier this week cast doubt on US spy chief
Tulsi Gabbard
's March 25 report to Congress, in which she reiterated the US intelligence community's assessment. Gabbard testified before Congress in March that Iran was not building nuclear weapons.
Trump's bold claim on Iran's nuclear ambitions
What intelligence do you have that Iran is building a weapon? Your intelligence community said they have no evidence that they are at this point,' the reporter asked Trump on the tarmac outside of Bedminster, New Jersey.

'Then my intelligence community is wrong,' the president said, asking who said that. 'She's wrong,' he said of Gabbard.

Gabbard appeared to come to Trump's defence later on Friday.
'America has intelligence that Iran is at the point that it can produce a nuclear weapon within weeks to months, if they decide to finalize the assembly,' she wrote in a social media post. 'President Trump has been clear that can't happen, and I agree.'
But he statement does not contradict her earlier assessment that Iran is not building a weapon. No known US intelligence assessment concludes that Iran is weaponising its nuclear programme. The spy chief had also noted in her testimony that Iran's uranium stockiples were at unprecedented levels for a non-nuclear state.

What is White House saying?
On Thursday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that 'Iran has all that it needs to keep a nuclear weapon' and 'all they need is a decision from the Supreme leader to do that.' The president announced Thursday that he would be making his final decision on whether to strike Iran using the US military 'within the next two weeks' if Tehran doesn't 'come to their senses' about the need to eliminate its nuclear program.
'We're going to see what that period of time is, but I'm giving them a period of time, and I would say two weeks would be the maximum,' Trump added Friday.

He appeared to rule out using US ground forces to invade Iran. 'Well, I'm not going to talk about ground forces. The last thing you want to do is ground force,' the commander-in-chief said.
Speaking on Friday, Trump also appeared to downplay the prospect of the US brokering a ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel, saying he 'might' support such a deal, while adding, 'Israel's doing well in terms of war, and I think you would say that Iran is doing less well.'
'It's hard to make that request right now. When someone's winning, it's harder than when they're losing,' he added.
The involvement of US military is considered crucial to Israel's goal of fully dismantling Iran's nuclear program, particularly the destruction of the underground Fordow enrichment facility.
Achieving this would likely require the use of Washington's 30,000-pound (13,000 kg) GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator, along with the B-2 stealth bombers capable of deploying it.

Ahead of polls, Nitish Kumar hikes social security pension in Bihar to ₹1100

PATNA: The Bihar government led by chief minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday announced an increase in the monthly pension for elderly, disabled persons, and widowed women from ₹ 400 to ₹ 1,100. The decision, which will take effect from July, would impact 1,09,69,255 beneficiaries under the state's Social Security Pension Scheme. The decision has been seen as a move to further strengthen the NDA's women vote bank ahead of assembly polls due in October-November. Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar addressing a public meeting at Siwan, Bihar, on Friday. (Santosh Kumar/ Hindustan Times) 'I am happy to inform you that under the Social Security Pension Scheme, all the elderly, disabled and widowed women will now get a pension of Rs. 1100 instead of Rs. 400 every month. All the beneficiaries will get pension at the increased rate from the month of July. It will be ensured that this amount is sent to the account of all the beneficiaries on the 10th of the month. This will help 1 crore 9 lakh 69 thousand 255 beneficiaries a lot,' Kumar announced on X. 'The elderly are a precious part of society and ensuring their dignified living is our top priority. The state government will continue to make efforts in this direction,' he added. The announcement comes in the backdrop of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav announcing that ₹ 2,500 will be deposited in the accounts of women under Mai-Bahin Samman Yojna, if his party forms the government in the state, and Beti (Benefit Education Training Income) Samman Yojana for girls' education. The Congress has also announced a MAi Behan Man Yojana. The Janata Dal (United) and its allies in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are seeking to consolidate their position against an opposition front led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress. The Bihar Assembly elections are expected to be held in October and November this year, and the NDA, which consists of the BJP, JD(U), and LJP, will be once again looking forward to returning to power while the INDIA Bloc will be giving a competition to the incumbent Nitish Kumar government. Women form the core voters for Nitish Kumar in particular and the NDA in general. Kumar's three main initiatives, the improved law and order, especially related to women security; the 'Jeevika' poverty alleviation programme started by Nitish; and the 50 per cent quota for women in panchayat and municipal bodies, have helped in a long way in retaining their faith over the years. Earlier on June 12, chief minister Kumar had increased the limit of giving administrative approval of schemes in MNREGA for the head of the Gram Panchayats from the existing ₹ 5 lakh to ₹ 10 lakh. The government also announced increasing the monthly allowance of representatives of all levels of Panchayati Raj institutions by one and a half times. Mukhiyas and Sarpanchs in Bihar would now be getting ₹ 7,500 per month as against ₹ 5,000 earlier, whereas Ward members and Panchs would be getting ₹ 1,200 per month as against ₹ 800 per month earlier. The remuneration was earlier hiked last year (2024) from ₹ 2,500 per month to ₹ 5,000 per month for mukhiyas and sarpanchs. Similarly, the salaries of Ward members and panch were raised from ₹ 500 to ₹ 800. The proposal would now go to cabinet for clearance. There are 8,062 panchayats in Bihar. Kumar had earlier said that the Panchayat representatives were given an ex-gratia grant of Rs. 5 lakh in case of accidental death. Now an order is being given to give an ex-gratia grant of Rs. 5 lakh even in case of normal death of Panchayat representatives during their tenure. Also, if Panchayat representatives are suffering from illness, then an order is being given to provide them health facilities from the Chief Minister's Medical Assistance Fund. Kumar said that the government has set the target that Panchayat government buildings should be completed in all the Gram Panchayats of the state before the elections to be held this year. For this, the state government has also approved the remaining 1,069 new Panchayat government buildings. In another important announcement, the CM said that the District Officer will take action to execute the application for arms license of Panchayat representatives as per rules within the prescribed time limit and to speed up the use of the amount of 15th Finance Commission and State Finance Commission received by the three-tier Panchayati Raj institutions, schemes up to Rs. 15 lakh can be implemented departmentally.

‘Maybe I'll change my mind about firing him': Trump revives threat to fire Fed Chair Jerome Powell; calls him ‘total and complete moron'

Donald Trump revives threat to fire Fed Chair Jerome Powell (Picture credit: AP) US President Donald Trump on Friday again floated the possibility of firing Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, reigniting a long-standing feud over interest rates he claims should be much lower. In a scathing post on Truth Social, Trump called Powell a 'numbskull' and a 'total and complete moron,' blaming him for refusing to reduce rates despite what Trump called 'virtually no inflation' in the economy. 'I don't know why the Board doesn't override this Total and Complete Moron! Maybe, just maybe, I'll have to change my mind about firing him?' Trump wrote. 'But regardless, his Term ends shortly,' Trump added. Powell's current term ends in May 2026. Trump's renewed criticism came just days after the Federal Reserve decided to hold interest rates steady at 4.25%–4.50%. Powell, backed by all six board members and five regional bank presidents, cited the need for patience as inflation trends slowly downward. Trump, however, insists rates should be slashed to between 1% and 2%, claiming such a move could save the country up to $1 trillion annually. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Has Toyota Done It Again? I've been nice, I've been neutral, and I've been nasty, and nice and neutral didn't work!' Trump added. As per The Hill, Powell has previously stated that a sitting US president cannot lawfully remove a Fed chair except for cause, such as misconduct. A recent Supreme Court ruling also reinforced the Fed's unique structure as a quasi-independent entity, limiting Trump's ability to dismiss Powell directly. Trump's renewed focus on the Fed comes at a time when Fed Governor Christopher Waller, considered a top contender for Powell's successor, suggested that rate cuts could be on the table by July, citing cooling inflation and signs of a weakening labour market. Nonetheless, Waller joined the unanimous decision to keep rates on hold this week. Adding to the speculation, Trump is reportedly preparing to announce a nominee to replace Powell, potentially well before the end of his term. Market analysts have warned that such an early move could create instability by introducing a 'shadow chair' dynamic, where the sitting chair and the president's nominee pull policy in conflicting directions. Names circulating as potential replacements include Fed Governor Waller, former Fed Governor Kevin Warsh, former Trump nominee Judy Shelton, and White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett. However, any new Fed chair must be confirmed by the US Senate, a process that could take months. Market strategists caution that the perception of a politically influenced appointment could erode confidence in the Fed's independence. 'Any Wall Street manager would tell you that Fed independence is the golden rule of markets,' said Callie Cox of Ritholtz Wealth Management. Despite the firestorm, Powell remains firm. In a previous statement, he said he would not step down if asked and reiterated that Fed decisions are grounded in economic data, not political pressure. Meanwhile, Trump's intensifying rhetoric and tariff plans continue to inject uncertainty into the central bank's outlook for the second half of 2025. On Rahul Gandhi's CCTV footage demand, poll body cites privacy, legal issues

The Election Commission cited privacy and legal issues in sharing CCTV footage of webcasting of the polling stations after a demand was made by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, sources said. The rebuttal by the election watchdog came amid repeated assertions by Gandhi that last year's Maharashtra election, which was won by the BJP-led Mahayuti, was rigged."Sharing of the footage, which would enable easy identification of the electors by any group or an individual, would leave both the elector who has voted and the elector who has not voted vulnerable to pressure, discrimination and intimidation by anti-social elements," Election Commission sources EC also said that making public CCTV footage from polling booths would violate the legal provisions of the Representation of the People Act and the directions of the Supreme Court of India.
