Manchester, boy, 13, dies after crashing stolen car in Bedford
A 13-year-old boy was killed driving a stolen car early Wednesday morning on Route 101 in Bedford after a brief police chase that started in Manchester and ended in a rollover crash, police said.
The passenger, a 14-year-old girl from Manchester, suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital, police said.
The car crashed and rolled over around 1:50 a.m. on Route 101 west at the Kilton Road off-ramp, according to a news release from Bedford Police. Both the driver and passenger were ejected from the car. The driver was pronounced dead at a hospital.
About an hour before the crash, a food-delivery driver reported an unattended 2014 Toyota Corolla was stolen near 5 Clifford Ave. in Manchester. An officer spotted the car being driven without its headlights on near Kenberma Street, and activated emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the car, according to the Manchester Police Department.
The police officer pursued the stolen car onto a highway, but decided to break off the chase for safety reasons and lost sight of the car, police said.
A preliminary investigation indicates that neither was wearing a seat belt, according to a Bedford Police release. They were the only ones in the car.
Manchester Superintendent of Schools Jennifer Chmiel issued a statement about a student from Southside Middle School killed in a crash on Wednesday.
'We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our students, and our thoughts are with those impacted by this motor vehicle accident. In addition to our school based counseling teams, we have brought in additional community resources and grief counselors that will be available at the school,' Chmiel wrote.

The Kilton Road on- and off-ramps were closed Wednesday morning as the department's Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team investigated.

Riverside County sheriff's deputy crashes in Indio while chasing ‘suspicious' vehicle
A Riverside County Sheriff's deputy rear-ended a vehicle during a high speed chase Sunday night, sending two people and the deputy to local hospitals. At around 10:06 p.m., Sunday, deputies searching for a 'suspicious' vehicle in the 51000 block of Avenida Cortez in La Quinta found that vehicle at the intersection of Avenue 52 and Jefferson Street, three miles to the east, Lt. Deidre Vickers said in an email. Vickers said the vehicle failed to yield to deputies, who initiated a pursuit. During the pursuit, the sheriff's deputy rear-ended a white Toyota Corolla that was uninvolved in the chase, according to Indio Police Sgt. Abraham Plata. The driver and passenger of the Corolla were sent to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs with non-life threatening injuries, Plata said. The deputy was sent to JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio for minor injuries. Little other information was available. No arrests had been made as of Monday morning and the investigation remained ongoing. Police presence up around Bonnaroo campgrounds. How many arrests, citations issued?
There's an increased police presence in the campground at Bonnaroo and attendees have taken notice. The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival formally kicked off June 12, but campers have been on The Farm since Tuesday. It wasn't until the first day of music that attendees started to notice police, according to several social media posts. In a video posted to a Bonnaroo fan Facebook page, police were seen checking car trunks and searching through canopies and tents. Festivalgoers reported seeing their tent neighbors get raided by as many as a half dozen police on ATVs. Police were out in teams of two and three July 13 patrolling plaza 3 of the campgrounds. Ethan Wilson, a Nashville resident, said he was walking through the campground when he saw a tent get raided. "I don't know if they found anything, but they went through the camp. Opened the tents. I guess they got a tip someone bought from them or something," Wilson said. Manchester Police Department Assistant Chief Adam Floied said they've made eight arrests and issued 16 citations since June 12. "The citations came from the campgrounds so that would be mostly drug citations," he said. "For the arrests, I know we've charged some people with drug crimes, but I think there was a fight or two so probably an assault charge too." Capt. Billy Butler with the Coffee County Sheriff's Office deferred all questions to the Manchester Police Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol. "We are business as usual and nothing to report. I would defer any comments to those agencies," he said. Floied, though, said the Manchester Police Department is staffed the same as years past. "Our presence has been the same as every year," he said. "The Sheriff's Office and the Drug Task Force have increased their presence in the campgrounds." The shifting resources left a hole in traffic enforcement this year. Floied said normally traffic is handled by the Coffee County Sheriff's Office and since they're in the campgrounds, the city had to fill those spots. "A lot of our traffic enforcement this year are employees from like the water department, codes, other departments," he said. 2nd defendant arraigned in 2020 killing of convenience store clerk
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — One of two men facing murder and attempted robbery charges in connection with the shooting death of a convenience store clerk in 2020 was arraigned Monday afternoon. Not guilty pleas were entered on behalf of Miles Clancy and his next hearing date was scheduled June 20. Clancy is being held without bail. Co-defendant Joseph Lee Aguirre was previously arraigned and is due back in court June 25. The shooting happened Oct. 14, 2020, at a convenience store at North Chester and McCord avenues. Man sentenced for deadly shooting of trespasser in Cal City neighborhood Two masked men entered the store and one of them immediately pulled a gun, according to court documents. The clerk grabbed a BB gun to defend himself and was shot once. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspects ran to a waiting black Toyota Corolla. The car was missing its rear license plate, but a review of surveillance footage showed the same vehicle had gone to the store earlier that day, its rear plate clearly visible, investigators said in court documents.
