Gaza carnage: Israel kills 53 civilians as hospitals near shutdown

Shafaq News11-06-2025

Shafaq News/ At least 53 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes across Gaza since dawn, as famine, mass displacement, and relentless bombardment push the territory deeper into collapse, the Palestinian Information Center reported on Wednesday.
Gaza's Civil Defence confirmed 31 deaths and 200 injuries in a single strike involving tank fire and drones at a central aid distribution point in the Netzarim corridor. Spokesman Mahmoud Basal described the attack as part of an ongoing assault on areas where civilians seek food and aid.

Since the war began on October 7, 2023, more than 54,980 Palestinians—mostly women and children—have been killed and over 126,900 injured, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.
With medical systems near total shutdown, Al-Shifa Hospital director Muhammad Abu Salmiya warned the facility could close within 24 hours without fuel.

UN agencies estimate 93% of Gaza's population now faces extreme food insecurity while repeated airstrikes have devastated farmland, fisheries, and infrastructure, deepening the humanitarian crisis.
Despite international appeals, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich maintained his refusal to allow aid into Gaza, pushing for continued military pressure to dismantle Hamas and dismissing hostage deal discussions.

Israeli fires leave dozens dead across Gaza Strip

Shafaq News/ Israeli forces killed at least 41 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip on Saturday, as air and ground operations intensified amid ongoing clashes with Palestinian factions. Medical staff at Gaza hospitals confirmed fatalities in multiple regions, including Gaza City and Khan Younis. A drone strike in eastern Khan Younis killed two people, according to a source at Nasser Medical Complex. In the Al-Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City, five Palestinians were killed in an Israeli bombardment, the Baptist Hospital stated. According to the Palestinian News Agency, the Red Crescent and the International Committee of the Red Cross evacuated a six-member family from Abasan, east of Khan Younis, after 37 days under siege in extreme humanitarian conditions. The family was transferred to the Red Crescent's field hospital in Al-Mawasi, where they received medical and psychological care. Gaza's Health Ministry stated that the total number of casualties from Israeli attacks since October 7, 2023, has reached 55,908 deaths and 131,138 injuries. Since March 18 alone, at least 5,599 people have been killed and 19,097 wounded. The ministry noted that many victims remain unaccounted for in inaccessible areas.

Gaza rescuers say Israeli fire kills 8 near aid centres, 4 others

Gaza City – Gaza's civil defence agency said Israeli fire killed at least 12 people on Saturday, including eight who had gathered near aid distribution sites in the Palestinian territory suffering severe food shortages. Civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP that three people were killed by gunfire from Israeli forces while waiting to collect aid in the southern Gaza Strip. In a separate incident, Bassal said five people were killed in a central area known as the Netzarim corridor, where thousands of Palestinians have gathered daily in the hope of receiving food rations. The Israeli army told AFP it was 'looking into' both incidents, which according to the civil defence agency occurred near distribution centres run by the US- and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. Its operations began at the end of May — when Israel eased a total aid blockade that lasted more than two months — but have been marred by chaotic scenes and neutrality concerns. UN agencies and major aid groups have refused to cooperate with the foundation over concerns it was designed to cater to Israeli military objectives. The health ministry in the Hamas-run territory said on Saturday that 450 people had been killed and 3,466 others injured while seeking aid in near-daily incidents since late May. The Israeli blockade imposed in early March amid an impasse in truce negotiations had produced famine-like conditions across Gaza, according to rights groups. Israel's military has pressed its operations across Gaza more than 20 months since an unprecedented Hamas attack triggered the devastating war, and even as attention has shifted to the war with Iran since June 13. Bassal told AFP that three people were killed on Saturday in an Israeli air strike on Gaza City in the north, and one more in another strike on the southern city of Khan Yunis. Israeli forces also demolished more than 10 houses in Gaza City 'by detonating them with explosives', he added. Israeli restrictions on media in the Gaza Strip and difficulties in accessing some areas mean AFP is unable to independently verify the tolls and details provided by rescuers and authorities. Earlier this week, the UN's World Health Organization warned that Gaza's health system was at a 'breaking point', pleading for fuel to be allowed into the territory to keep its remaining hospitals running. The Hamas attack in October 2023 that sparked the war resulted in the deaths of 1,219 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official figures. Israel's retaliatory military campaign has killed at least 55,908 people, also mostly civilians, according to the Gaza health ministry. The UN considers these figures reliable.
