West spotlight: Biggest June visits

June has become arguably the most important month in the recruiting calendar, with prospects crisscrossing the country on official visits and lining up announcement dates.
Rivals national recruiting director Adam Gorney looks at five West prospects who are taking key visits this month.

BRANDON ARRINGTON, Oregon (this weekend)
There is a very real possibility that Oregon could land all three five-stars in California and this weekend could go a very long way in figuring that out.
Arrington really liked his Washington visit last weekend. He could love his Oregon trip as the Ducks and Texas A&M are recruiting him the hardest. USC seems to be fading in his recruitment as Oregon, Texas A&M, Penn State and Washington are the frontrunners and making the biggest impact.

With his position versatility, his track background and so much more, Oregon looks like a top contender in Arrington's recruitment and this weekend could push the Ducks even higher on his list.
RYDER LYONS, Oregon (June 13)
How is this not shaping up great for Oregon? The five-star quarterback from Folsom, Calif., has Oregon and BYU visits coming up and then some fringe programs also involved with Michigan, Ohio State and Ole Miss in the mix. It seems like USC is a long shot in his recruitment which further solidifies the Ducks at the top.
Oregon lost four-star QB Jonas Williams to USC and five-star quarterback Jared Curtis picked Georgia over the Ducks. Coach Dan Lanning and his staff have now prioritized Lyons, who could be similar to Bo Nix in that offense with more athleticism outside the pocket, and BYU just feels like a stretch at this point.
VANCE SPAFFORD, Miami (June 20)
Spafford remains committed to Georgia but he's going through his visit schedule this month starting at Washington, at UCLA this weekend, then he'll be at Georgia and will close out June at Miami before the Rivals Five-Star and then back to South Florida for the OT7 nationals. It's a busy time for the Mission Viejo, Calif. Standout.

A commitment to the Bulldogs since early November, the biggest threat to flip Spafford is Miami as he loves Coral Gables, the coaches there and the opportunity at wide receiver. That he's taking his final visit there is also telling but Georgia will have its chance soon as well.
JETT WASHINGTON, Oregon (this weekend)
Washington canceled his Ohio State official visit to move up his Oregon visit - another sign that the Ducks are a major frontrunner in his recruitment. The Ducks are very high on the list with Alabama (where he already visited) and Washington took a mid-week trip to USC as well.
This will be the last official visit - for now - for the four-star safety from Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman and that's a great sign for Oregon. He moved up his trip, it's his final planned trip for now and the Ducks have been in a strong position throughout his recruitment. The Ducks are sitting pretty - if things go really well this weekend.
RICHARD WESLEY, Oregon (this weekend)
On May 10 during a visit to Oregon, the five-star defensive end jumped in a pool with coach Dan Lanning to announce his commitment to the Ducks. Before he could dry off, the Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon standout had backed off that pledge 17 days later since he didn't clear the pledge with those close to him.
Wesley is back at Oregon this weekend as the coaching staff looks to continue to mend fences and work on getting Wesley back in the fold as the Ducks have always been one of his favorites. The five-star standout is also considering Ohio State, Texas A&M, Texas and others but Oregon can put itself back in a great spot with a solid visit this weekend.

LaVar Ball wants his sons to play for the Lakers
When the Los Angeles Lakers drafted University of California, Los Angeles guard Lonzo Ball with the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, it meant that his father, LaVar, would be front and center. The elder Ball, who played college basketball and had a brief pro football career, was essentially a hype man for his son, as well as the CEO of Big Baller Brand, a clothing and sneaker manufacturer. He drew the ire of many people when he claimed that the younger Ball was a better player than Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry and even said that the younger Ball was "the best player in the world." While the 6-foot-6 guard had his moments, he failed to even come close to playing at an All-Star level, and after two years with the Lakers, they sent him to the New Orleans Pelicans in the Anthony Davis trade. Now that a majority share of the Lakers is going to be sold by the Buss family to Mark Walter, the elder Ball wants his three sons — Lonzo, LaMelo and LiAngelo — to play for the Purple and Gold and for Magic Johnson to return to the organization. 'More news!' LaVar said. 'The Lakers just sold for $10 billion. Uh oh. Hey, [Los Angeles] Clippers, you better get my boys or Lakers if you put Magic back in line. Let Magic run this thing so we go get these championships, 'cause he know what to do. Magic, this for you. Since them Lakers is ran by a new group, shoot. A new time, new era. Go get the Ball boys. Hey, it's not even about a bidding war. First come, first serve. 'Whoever wants them championships, better get the Ball boys. Trust me when I tell you. But Magic, if you in line, I'm down with you, dawg. Holler at your boy.' Johnson was the Lakers' president of basketball operations from February 2017 to April 2019. He was a key reason the Lakers drafted Lonzo Ball in 2017, and he even visited the Ball clan in Chino Hills just prior to that year's draft. He has also been involved with Walter since 2012 as part of the group that owns the Los Angeles Dodgers. Under their leadership, the Dodgers have had a tremendous amount of success, which includes two World Series championships in 2020 and 2024. Lonzo Ball has had lots of trouble staying healthy since coming into the NBA. As a member of the Chicago Bulls, he suffered a meniscus tear in January 2022, and although he was initially expected to miss up to eight weeks, he ended up being out of action for nearly three calendar years. He ultimately underwent multiple surgical procedures as a result of the injury. Although he returned to action on Nov. 27, 2024, he only played in 35 games afterward. For the season, he averaged 7.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 22.2 minutes a game while shooting 36.6% from the field.

Georgia make history with first Mixed Team World title on emotional final day in Budapest
The Mixed Team competition is about more than medals - it's about team spirit, unity, and the values at the heart of judo. Expect big throws, big emotions, and unforgettable moments as athletes fight not for themselves, but for each other. In the semi-final, Japan led early against strong contenders Georgia in an intense contest. But big throws from the imposing heavyweight Guram TUSHISHVILI and freshly crowned World Champion Eteri LIPARTELIANI flipped the script. Having built momentum Georgia powered through with another ippon from Mikheili BAKHBAKHASHVILI. Utana TERADA tried to even the score for team Japan. But in a repeat of the Olympic final, Lasha BEKAURI emerged victorious. Driving the passionate Georgian team into the World final with commanding Republic of Korean delivered a dominant performance in their semi-final against Germany, sweeping to victory 4 - 0. With sharp technique, relentless pressure, and outstanding team spirit, they left no room for doubt and secured their place in the final in emphatic fashion. It was The Republic of Korea VS Georgia in the final contending for the gold medal - who would rewrite history? LEE led with an ippon, setting the tone with a confident performance. But fresh off her World Championship win, LIPARTELIANI evened the score. BAKHBAKHASHVILI held his way to victory and TCHANTURIA took home another win for team Georgia. At 3-1 it was left to double Olympic Champion Lasha BEKAURI to take it home for his team. Gold for Georgia - and a new chapter was written in World Judo history. We are the happiest in the World now because it is the first time in our history. We are Georgians, we are the best! IJF President Mr Marius VIZER awarded the gold trophy. Mrs Filomena FORTES, IOC Member awarded the gold medals, and Mr Max-Hervé GEORGE, Director of International Partnerships of the IJF awarded the silver trophy.
