IIT Ropar ranks 12th among 2,500 engineering institutes in India in IIRF 2025 rankings
CHANDIGARH: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar has been ranked 12th among 2,500 engineering institutes across the country in the Top Engineering Colleges in India 2025 ranking released by the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF).
Prof Rajeev Ahuja, Director of IIT Ropar, said, "This prestigious ranking, which evaluates over 2,500 institutions across India, underscores IIT Ropar's growing stature as a powerhouse of academic excellence, cutting-edge research, and innovation. We should lead in research and innovation- we have all the ingredients to become the most innovative institute in the country. We are committed to pushing boundaries, advancing research, and fostering indigenous manufacturing to reduce reliance on imports.'
The institute's ascent to rank 12 reflects its strong performance across seven key parameters - placement performance, teaching-learning resources and pedagogy, research (volume, income, and reputation), industry income and integration, placement strategies and support, future orientation, and external perception and international outlook.
The Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) evaluates over 2,500 institutions across India, assessing them on parameters such as faculty quality, research output, industry collaboration, infrastructure, and student satisfaction. According to the latest rankings, IIT Ropar is placed among IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Kanpur, surpassing several established engineering colleges in India.
IIT Ropar is emerging as a research and technological innovation leader, particularly in defence and security, energy efficiency and decarbonisation, semiconductor technology, quantum, agriculture and water management, artificial intelligence and data science, and cyber-physical systems (CPS).

QS Rankings 2026: Top 10 Indian Institutes With Best Sustainability Rankings
QS Rankings 2026: The QS World University Rankings, released on Thursday featured the best performing institutions around the world. A total of 54 Indian institutions made it to the QS Global Rankings with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi as the best performing Indian institution. The Sustainability Score evaluates how well an institution contributes to areas such as waste reduction, energy efficiency, student well-being, transparency, and ethical decision-making. Here are the top 10 Indian institutions according to the QS World Rankings 2026 with their sustainability scores: The best performing Indian institute is the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi with an overall rank of 123 among the top institutions around the world. IIT, Delhi earned a sustainability score of 79.9. The second Indian institution is the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) with an overall 129 rank. IIT, Bombay earned a sustainability score of 75.2. Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) with an overall 180th position, earned a sustainability score of 73. Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT-KGP) secured the 215th position overall, earning a sustainability score of 77.8. Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore acquired 219 rank among the top institutions according to the QS World Rankings 2025 with a sustainability score of 66.3. Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) secured an overall rank of 222, earning a sustainability score of 74.7. University of Delhi got an overall rank of 328 and a sustainability score of 71.2. IIT-Kanpur set to host 58th convocation on June 23, RBI guv Sanjay Malhotra to be chief guest
Lucknow: The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur is set to host its 58th convocation ceremony on Monday to celebrate the academic achievements of its graduating students as they begin a new phase of their journey. The momentous occasion will be graced by RBI governor Sanjay Malhotra, an IIT-Kanpur alumnus, as the chief guest. The chairperson, Board of Governors (BoG), IIT- Kanpur, and Prof. Manindra Agrawal, director, IIT-K, will preside over the ceremony. Malhotra completed his bachelor's degree in computer science and engineering from IIT-K in 1989. He began his career as a bureaucrat in 2000 and held key roles across various ministries in Rajasthan and at the national level, including international experience with UNIDO. He served as the Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power and also served as the Chairman and MD of REC. In December 2024, he was appointed Governor of the RBI.
