We hit 78 in our Raiders countdown to kickoff. Who wore it best and who's wearing it now

We've reached 78 days until the Raiders season opener at Foxboro against the Patriots, With our countdown at 78 days we take a look at who currently dons the number in Silver & Black and who has brought it the most distinction. No. 78 Who's wearing it now: OT Dalton Wagner Wagner is on his third go round with the Raiders. The 6-8, 320-pounder was originally an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas in 2023. At the end of his first camp, he was placed on injured reserve and remained with the team to try again in 2024. He didn't make the team out of camp and was spent all of last season on the team's practice squad. He was then re-signed to a reserve/future contract last January. Who wore it best: OT Art Shell The greatest offensive lineman to ever don Silver & Black. And he did so for his entire 15-year Hall of Fame career. He made eight Pro Bowls and was named an All Pro twice in that time, while anchoring the left side of the Raiders dominant offensive line. And the Raiders hoisted two Lombardi trophies as well. Shell would later become the Raiders head coach and the first ever African American head coach in NFL history in 1989. Over his initial six seasons as head coach, he only once had a losing record, finishing with an overall winning record. We can just ignore his doomed single-season stint in 2006.

College coach knew Patriots were 'perfect' match for promising rookie UDFA

UC Davis coach Tim Plough knew immediately that the New England Patriots would be the perfect fit for undrafted rookie running back Lan Larison. The former UC Davis standout fit the mold of the do-everything running backs that have typically succeeded under Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. Larison racked up 1,465 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns, while also hauling in 62 receptions for 847 yards and six touchdowns in his senior season. Advertisement The playmaking abilities as both a rusher and receiver are reminiscent of some running backs in the Patriots' past. It's why Plough thought that New England would be a good fit for Larison. 'When he asked me what I thought, I said, 'Lan, that is the perfect place for you to go,'' Plough told 'First thing I thought was this couldn't be a better fit.' Larison's skill set is comparable to previous Patriots standouts, like Rex Burkhead and Danny Woodhead. It's a crowded running back room with players like Rhamondre Stevenson, TreVeyon Henderson and Antonio Gibson also vying for snaps. But Larison is talented enough to stick around with a good training camp. He could be next in line of the many underrated players to make a name for themselves in McDaniels' offense.
