The New York Mets are off to as good a start as they could've hoped for in their Juan Soto era. They're three games ahead of the Chicago Cubs for the best record in the NL, and that's with third baseman/designated hitter Mark Vientos (hamstring) missing the last 10 contests.

Vientos is slashing .230/.298/.380 with six homers and 21 RBI across 53 games, a step down from his .266/.322/.516 line last season. The 25-year-old also notched a career-high 27 homers and 71 RBI over 111 games last year and slashed .327/.362/.636 with five homers and 14 RBI over 13 playoff contests.
Although Vientos hasn't been at that level this season, he could push New York to the stratosphere if he regains that form in time for October.
The Mets announced an update about the veteran's progress ahead of their bout with the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday, via MLB.com's Anthony DiComo.

"Mark Vientos (right hamstring strain) will begin a minor league rehab assignment early next week at Triple-A Syracuse," he reported.

Vientos hasn't played since June 2, when he pinch-hit for backup Jared Young in New York's 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
New York is 7-3 in its last 10 contests and is 4.5 games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the NL East. The Atlanta Braves are 14 games back in third.
Right-hander Tylor Megill (5-4, 3.76 ERA) will start on the mound for the Mets on Saturday against Rays right-hander Drew Rasmussen (5-4, 2.22 ERA).

He didn't make an appearance, however. Hjelle, a 28-year-old righty, made his debut with the Giants in 2022. The organization drafted him in the second round in 2018.
