CF Monterrey, also known as Rayados, qualified for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup by winning the CONCACAF Champions League in 2021.
History at the Club World Cup
This will be Rayados' sixth time at the Club World Cup with their most recent coming in 2021. The Mexican side have never got past the semi-finals of the competition, losing in the final four in 2012 and 2019.
How did they perform in the 2024/25 season?
Monterrey came runners-up in 2024's Apertura tournament but in this year's Clausura, the Mexican giants are currently seventh in the table. On the continental front, they were knocked out of the CONCACAF Champions League by finalists Vancouver.

Former Manchester City assistant, Domènec Torrent, was named as the new Monterrey boss in May 2025. His first official game in charge will be their clash with Inter on June 18.
Who is their star player?
Sergio Ramos is undoubtedly Monterrey's standout player. Joining the club in early 2025, the UEFA Champions League and World Cup winner has brought a wealth of experience from his time with Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla.
Expected performance at the Club World Cup
Drawn against Urawa Red Diamonds, River Plate and Inter, Monterrey will likely be juking out for second place behind the Italian giants. Anything after that will be considered a bonus for the Liga MX outfit.

Alex Pereira: Focus on Magomed Ankalaev rematch, not heavyweight move
NEW YORK—Fans clamoring for Alex Pereira to move to heavyweight are going to have to wait a bit longer. Pereira dropped the UFC light heavyweight title to Magomed Ankalaev in the main event of UFC 313 in March. With the heavyweight division up in the air, Jon Jones saying multiple times he's not interested in fighting right now, and interim champ Tom Aspinall looking for an opponent, 'Poatan' would be a popular choice to flip one of the UFC's thinner divisions upside down. Advertisement That time is not now, however, as Pereira has his sights set on a fall return to avenge his loss to Ankalaev. 'Anywhere around the timeframe [of] September, October, November, for me it makes no difference, I want to fight,' Pereira told MMA Fighting at Fanatics Fest. 'My focus right now is fighting Ankalaev... get my belt back, and then we see what happens after.' Pereira has accomplished so much in so little time that the opportunity to win a third divisional title seems like a reasonable goal and request. Right now, Pereira hopes the heavyweight division can get moving again in an entertaining way, but he has his own boxes to check. Advertisement 'Let those guys kill each other in that weight class,' Pereira said. 'Right now I'm just focusing on light heavyweight.' More from

LAFC's hopes of advancing in FIFA Club World Cup shattered in loss to ES Tunis
NASHVILLE — Yousef Belaili scored in the 70th minute as Espérance Sportive de Tunis ended LAFC's hopes of advancing out of group play at the FIFA Club World Cup in a 1-0 victory Friday night. LAFC had one final chance to tie it in the 99th minute on Denis Bouanga's right-footed shot off a penalty kick just in front, but goalkeeper Béchir Ben Säid smothered it. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban were in the crowd of 13,651 at 30,000-seat GEODIS Park on a steamy late afternoon. Key moment: After a back-and-forth pace, Belaili came through with a right-footed shot from the left side of the box to the bottom left corner through goalkeeper Hugo Lloris' legs. Takeaways: ES Tunis will finish the round Tuesday night against Chelsea, with second place in Group D and a spot in the round of 16 on the line. LAFC has been shut out in both of its Club World Cup matches. LAFC had two goals wiped out by offsides in the first half.
