Florida Panthers crack and dent Stanley Cup as title celebrations roll on

It's fair to say that the Florida Panthers are enjoying their Stanley Cup victory celebrations – but they have come at the expense of the trophy itself. As the Panthers' celebrations kicked into gear, photographs from the festivities showed that the bowl of the trophy has sustained a crack while the bottom is dented. Reuters reported that the incidents happened in the hours after Florida's Game 6 romp over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday to secure its second straight Stanley Cup. Images and videos on social media showed the Panthers players celebrating their title victory at Elbo Bar in Fort Lauderdale with fans, including clips of players pouring beer from the Stanley Cup onto fans. A spokesperson for the Hockey Hall of Fame told the Associated Press that the Keepers of the Cup plan to have it repaired by the celebration parade on Sunday. A trophy suffering 'injuries' in title-winning celebrations isn't unheard of. In 2011, following international soccer giant Real Madrid's winning of Spain's premier cup competition – the Copa del Rey – defender Sergio Ramos dropped the trophy from the top of a double-decker bus amid the festivities, only for the team bus to run over it and leave the silverware with a huge dent in it. For the famed Stanley Cup, this year's predicament isn't even the wildest situation it has found itself in over its storied lifespan. In almost cartoon-like fashion, the Montreal Canadiens left the trophy on the side of the road after winning it in 1924. The story goes that a car carrying some of the team had stalled going up a hill, meaning players had to get out to push. It wasn't until they reached the top that they realized they had left one of the most famous trophies in the world behind. In 1994, a photo was taken of Kentucky Derby winner Go For Gin eating out of the trophy while at New York's Belmont Park after the New York Rangers had won the 'People's Trophy.' A post shared by CNN Sports (@cnnsport) Following the Detroit Red Wings' success in 2008, Kris Draper celebrated by putting his baby daughter in the Cup for a photo. Only she left behind a little surprise … by using the legendary trophy as a toilet. Pittsburgh Penguins forward Josh Archibald got creative with his celebrations, using his time with the Cup to baptize his son. Three-week-old Brecken was photographed receiving his blessing while sitting in the bowl at the top of the trophy. CNN's Ben Church, Agne Jurkenaite, Marco Chacon and Alicia Johnson contributed to this report.

Ramos scores as Monterrey hold Inter

Sergio Ramos scored as Inter Milan were held to a 1-1 draw by Mexican side Monterrey in their FIFA Club World Cup Group E opening game here at the Rose Bowl Stadium on Tuesday. It was underdogs Monterrey who struck first, through 39-year-old defender Ramos, who leapt above two defenders to power home a header from a corner in the 25th minute. Inter levelled it late in the first half when Lautaro Martinez scored on Kristjan Asllani's free-kick assisted by Carlos Augusto in the box. Nelson Deossa had a chance to win it for Monterrey in stoppage time but his shot ended up in the side netting. Inter's Henrikh Mkhitaryan said that they had chances which they failed to convert. "I think we could have scored a second goal, which we didn't unfortunately," Mkhitaryan said. "But this is football, we have to work hard, we have to do our best to win the next games because it's a new competition and the teams are very motivated to get out of the group stage. "I think we have to be more aggressive in front of goal, we need to score more goals. Even today we had chances which we didn't score, unfortunately." Both team's managers were debuting in the first competitive meeting between the sides. Cristian Chivu took over from Simone Inzaghi at Inter Milan shortly after their crushing 5-0 Champions League final defeat by Paris Saint-Germain, while Spaniard Domenec Torrent was brought in at Monterrey after their disappointing start to the season. Meanwhile, River Plate started their Club World Cup campaign with a 3-1 win over Urawa Red Diamonds, with goals from Facundo Colidio, Sebastian Driussi and Maxi Meza. Furthermore, South African club Mamelodi Sundowns F.C. defeated Ulsan Hyundai 1-0 in a Group F encounter, thanks to a goal from Iqraam Rayner.

Ramos lifts Monterrey to 1-1 draw with Inter

PA Media/dpa London Sergio Ramos was on target as Mexican side Monterrey earned a 1-1 draw against Inter Milan at the Club World Cup. The 39-year-old former Spain and Real Madrid defender rolled back the years with a commanding display as the Champions League runners-up were given a real fright in their Group E opener at Pasadena's Rose Bowl. Lautaro Martinez struck shortly before half-time to earn the Italian side a point, with the Argentina forward having a second-half effort chalked off for offside. However, Monterrey were good value for the draw and created plenty of chances of their own in the second half. Inter started brightly and Benjamin Pavard sent an early effort from distance off target before neat work from Nicolo Barella saw him lay the ball off for Matteo Darmian, only for the former Manchester United defender to fire over the bar. Midway through the first half Lucas Ocampos had Monterrey's first meaningful effort but saw it deflect behind for a corner. From the resulting set-piece, Ramos - a four-time winner of this event during his time at the Bernabeu - rose highest to head Oliver Torres' delivery past Yann Sommer. Carlos Augusto teed up Martinez two minutes before half-time as Inter levelled before the break. The Nerazzuri could have been in front at the interval as Darmian cut back for Sebastiano Esposito, who shot wide, before Kristjan Asllani smashed a free-kick against the wall. Monterrey almost went back in front after 64 minutes when Sergio Canales' powerful effort rattled the post. Martinez had an effort midway through the second half ruled out for offside then prodded wide with only the keeper to beat 13 minutes from time. Substitute Nicola Zalewski flashed an effort wide as Inter pushed for a winner. Nelson Deossa thumped a stoppage-time effort from distance wide before firing into the side netting when through on goal as Monterrey threatened late on, with Stefan Medina sending a header the wrong side of the post in the dying seconds. The result leaves both sides trailing River Plate, who beat Urawa Reds 3-1 earlier in the day.
