Jon Jones, largely considered one of the best pound-for-pound UFC fighters of all-time, has made headlines yet again. Jones holds a professional record of 28-1 (1 no contest), and as of Saturday morning, stood as the UFC heavyweight champion.

Jones most recently appeared in the Octagon when he defeated Stipe Miocic via KO/TKO at UFC 309 in November of 2024 to retain his heavyweight belt. Since his last fight, rumors of an upcoming title fight with Tom Aspinall kept Jones' name in the news.
On Saturday afternoon, Dana White announced that Jones called him Friday night, officially retiring from the UFC. White made the crucial announcement during his press conference following UFC Fight Night: Jamahal Hill vs. Khalil Rountree.
This breaking news officially makes Aspinall the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion.
UFC fans are flooding social media with their initial reactions. Some seem happy. Some seem sad. And some, just seem stunned.

"Worst day in UFC history," one user posted.
Another user expressed where Jones ranks all-time, "JON JONES WILL GO DOWN AS THE GREATEST FIGHTER OF ALL TIME."
"Scared of Tom you think?" one user questioned.
"embarrassing for the company to have just wasted all that time and holding up that division," one user said of the UFC.

Another user on X, couldn't help but post Aspinall's rubber duck image.
At 31 years old, Aspinall has shown all the promise and potential in the world when he steps into the Octagon. While he has a 15-3 overall record, his lone misstep in the UFC was a loss to Curtis Blaydes in 2022.

Aspinall was confident he would retire Jones, making this definitive statement back in March of this year.
"I will retire Jon Jones without even fighting him...Jon, let's do it. You don't have to ask me twice. If not, I'll fight somebody else for the undisputed belt. I'll fight anybody, anytime, anywhere. It doesn't matter, I'm ready to go."

A juvenile was arrested for assaulting an officer, and seven people were ejected after Wydad AC fans were seen setting off smoke bombs at Lincoln Financial Field during the FIFA Club World Cup on Sunday, Philadelphia police said. Wydad, which is based in Morocco, was taking on Juventus in a group stage match when the smoke bombs went off in a section of the Linc. Wydad fans also set off the smoke bombs during last Wednesday's match against Manchester City in South Philly. A representative from FIFA told CBS News Philadelphia that smoke bombs are not allowed at their events. Lincoln Financial Field also has a strict bag policy. Fans are permitted to bring the following kinds of bags into the stadium: clear bags within a certain measurement range, a one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag or a small clutch-style bag that is around the size of a hand.
