Offset Calls Out Elon Musk For Supporting George Floyd's Killer

Yahoo05-03-2025

Elon Musk's latest political stunt drew the ire of Offset. The X owner supported Ben Shapiro's campaign to get Derek Chauvin, George Floyd's killer, pardoned, and the Atlanta rapper was not a fan.
'Racist bi**h playin in black folks faces,' the former Migos member wrote on Instagram. He was so disgusted by Musk's actions that he declared he was boycotting his popular Tesla vehicles. 'Driving Ferrari not Tesla,' the 33-year-old rapper wrote in another comment.
This was sparked by the 53-year-old businessman reposting Shapiro's video dedicated to Chauvin and writing, 'Something to think about.' Shapiro is a conservative political commentator, and Musk holds a lot of influence as a wealthy businessman but also as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency. So, those two banding together could cause an increase in support for the movement, not to mention Musk's relationship with President Donald Trump.

Derek Chauvin grew in infamy for killing George Floyd in 2020, sparking the wave of Black Lives Matter protests all across America amid the global COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, he was sentenced to 22.5 years in prison for the murder. However, Shapiro believes this conviction was unjust and wrote a letter to Donald Trump expressing those feelings.
'We write to urge you to immediately issue a pardon for Officer Derek Chauvin, who was unjustly convicted and is currently serving a 22-and-a-half year sentence for the murder of George Floyd and associated federal charges,' Shapiro wrote. He claimed the jury operated out of 'massive overt pressure' to provide a 'guilty verdict regardless of the evidence or any semblance of impartial deliberation.' He also claimed that the outcome of the trial was pre-determined and national media pressured the jury to align with their 'preferred narrative.'
Elon Musk standing on his side, while unsurprising, is a bad choice given the amount of vitriol he has received. Other rappers such as Cardi B, Eminem, and Tyler, The Creator have called out the businessman for his political views and decisions. Tyler even changed the lyrics to his song '911' from 'Shout out Elon Musk' to 'F**k Elon' during a performance at Austin City Limits in 2024.

By most accounts, the company's robotaxi launch in Austin yesterday went off without a hitch. Most of the Tesla fans and influencers who received invites to test it out said the experience was 'smooth' and 'natural.' But you knew something was going to happen, and that something turned out to be a robotaxi briefly driving in the opposite lane of traffic. Not a good look.

Tesla's robotaxis launch in Texas with 10-vehicle trial run: See photos

Tesla's "fully autonomous" robotaxis made their debut in Austin, Texas this weekend. On Sunday, June 22, a small fleet of Tesla's taxis began offering rides to people in the state's buzzing capital, according to Reuters. It marks the first time Tesla's self-driving cars picked up paying riders. The launch was a "culmination of a decade of hard work," Tesla CEO Elon Musk wrote in a post on his social media platform X. "Super congratulations to the @Tesla_AI software & chip design teams on a successful @Robotaxi launch!!" Musk added. Tesla did the trial run with 10 vehicles in the a neighborhood called South Congress, reported Reuters. While no one was in the driver's seat, a front-seat rider acted as a "safety monitor" during the trial. It is unclear how much control safety monitors had over the car. Some people, however, gathered to show their disapproval of the new self-driving taxis. Photos captured protesters gathered on Saturday with signs that stated, "No Robotaxi in Austin." Nio (NIO) Could Climb 33% as Goldman Sachs Lifts Rating and Price Target

Goldman Sachs upgraded Chinese electric vehicle maker Nio (NIO, Financials) to Neutral from Sell and raised its 12-month price target to $3.80 from $3.70, citing recent cost-cutting measures and a decline in share price. The updated target implies a potential upside of about 9% from current levels. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 3 Warning Signs with NIO. Goldman Sachs analyst Tina Hou noted that Nio's efforts to reduce operating expenses by 20%25%including project cancellations, staff reductions, and streamlined operationscould support margin improvement of 4%10% over the next three years. Nio has faced challenges, including widening losses, a 21% year-to-date share price drop, and heightened competition from Tesla (TSLA, Financials) and BYD. Despite the upgrade, Goldman Sachs remains cautious. It cited weak demand, a high debt load, and reduced delivery expectations as ongoing risks. Nio's cash and investments declined from $5.7 billion to $3.6 billion in Q1 2025, underscoring balance sheet concerns. Wall Street maintains a Hold consensus on Nio stock, with two Buy, seven Hold, and one Sell ratings over the past three months. The average analyst price target is $4.58, suggesting a 33% upside.
