Joy Behar hopes to ‘actually influence people's thinking' with her criticism of the Trump administration

'The View' co-host Joy Behar said she felt an obligation to speak out about President Donald Trump's administration on Wednesday and said she hoped to influence people's thinking during a 'Behind the Table' discussion. Producer Brian Teta asked Behar, who has been with the show for 26 years, what she likes about doing the ABC talk show and why she's been on it for so long. 'It's because of the freedom to speak my mind, that has always been the attraction,' she responded, before talking about other parts of her career. 'I like the people I work with, number one, I like everybody.' 'I also feel an obligation to speak about the administration that we're in the midst of, and I feel like we're in a privileged position to say certain things and that we, you know, we can actually influence people's thinking sometimes, even if it's a little bit, that we're in a lot of trouble in this country right now, and that I like the idea that we can say stuff that people will listen to,' she said. 5 Producer Brian Teta asked Behar, who has been with the show for 26 years, what she likes about doing the ABC talk show and why she's been on it for so long. 'We can show them the way they are in real life, the way they really are,' Behar said. 'I've met Hillary Clinton many times. She's different when she's running for office, and she's all scared to make a mistake. When she's herself, she's very funny. She should have come on 'The View' more, I think at that time. In fact, somebody screwed her up, somebody in her campaign said, 'don't go on,' and it was a big mistake.' Behar said Clinton was a grandma, wife and mother and was much more than just someone who ran for office. 5 Behar was also asked about the many political figures she's gotten to interview on the show and about why politicians come on the talk show. Hostin defended her question about whether Harris would have acted differently at any point during President Joe Biden's first term, saying it was one Harris should have expected. Harris memorably said she couldn't think of anything she'd have done differently than the unpopular Biden, and the soundbite became fodder for the Trump campaign that Harris was more of the same. 5 Joy Behar on The View holding a New York Post newspaper headline about Whoopi Goldberg. 'I knew it instantly when she answered it,' Hostin said during the podcast conversation, when asked by Teta if she knew it would be a viral moment. 'Which is why I asked the follow-up question, 'is there one thing?' Because I knew, I could see the soundbite and I knew what was going to happen, but I thought it was a really fair question and I thought it was a question that she would expect.' Biden appeared on the show in May for one of his first interviews since leaving the White House. The former president blamed racism and sexism for Harris' loss during the conversation. 'I wasn't surprised, not because I didn't think the vice president was the most qualified person to be president,' Biden said. 'She is. She's qualified to be President of the United States of America. I was surprised because they went the route of, the sexist route, the whole route. I mean, this is a woman, she's this, she's that. 'I mean, I've never seen quite as successful and a consistent campaign undercutting the notion that a woman couldn't lead the country, and a woman of mixed race.'

File Photo by Chris Chew/UPI | License Photo June 20 (UPI) -- Actress Jessica Alba joins girl group Katseye in their new music video. Katseye released a single and video Friday for "Gabriela," which will appear on their upcoming EP, Beautiful Chaos, due June 27. The music video for the song shows Alba, 44, play the CEO of the fictional Gabriela Enterprises. She stands at the head of a conference table, with the members of Katseye in attendance. "I've built and sustained this empire over the last 20 years," Alba says before the music starts. "A miracle truly. No thanks to any of you. I would love to say that my legacy is in capable hands. But alas, the talent in this room is quite disappointing." "However, one of you must succeed me, and claim my name as the next CEO of Gabriela Enterprises," she continues. The members of Katseye -- Daniela, Manon, Lara, Megan, Sophia and Yoonchae -- then fight over who will replace Alba. Beautiful Chaos will mark the group's second EP. "We are so excited to invite you into this beautiful and chaotic world that we have built," the group captioned an Instagram post promoting the upcoming release. "Thank you for being here." Katseye is also set to take the stage during the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards Saturday.

Chris Brown pleads not guilty in London nightclub assault case

June 20 (UPI) -- R&B singer Chris Brown pleaded not guilty Friday to assault charges related to an act of violence at a London nightclub. Brown entered the plea at Southwark Crown Court in London, and the judge then adjourned the arraignment, which moves the next step of the case to July before a trial set for October of 2026. Brown allegedly attacked music producer Abraham Diaw in February of 2023 with a bottle of tequila at Tape nightclub in London. He was arrested in May on charges related to the incident of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and was then held in custody for almost a week before being released on $6.7 million bail. Co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, who performs under the name HoodyBaby, also pleaded not guilty Friday at the court to a charge of attempted grievous bodily harm in the same case. Under conditions of his bail, Brown must reside in the United Kingdom until his trial, and had his passport confiscated by police. The bail conditions do allow him to tour and perform, meaning he can have his passport for travel to shows. The Grammy Award-winning musician is currently taking part in his Breezy Bowl XX world tour and performed Sunday night in the British city of Manchester, at which he reportedly acknowledged fans for their support before also thanking the jail where he was held. "It was really nice," he told the crowd of his time in custody. Brown is next scheduled to perform at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday. Copyright 2025 UPI News Corporation.
