Seaside arts festival gets under way

Yahoo29-05-2025

The world's smallest nightclub, circus performances and a family comedy show are some of the highlights on the bill of a seaside arts festival.
The Out There Festival in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, began on Wednesday and ends on Saturday, featuring a line-up of more than 60 artists.
Organisers say the event - which also offers a number of world premieres and international shows - is the UK's biggest outdoor arts festival.
Director Joe Mackintosh said the 17th festival promised a "one-of-a-kind experience for audiences of all ages".
He added that many events were free, with people encouraged to make donations if they could.
Visitors can visit the Miniscule of Sound, billed as the world's smallest nightclub, that fits into a space the size of a wardrobe.
An aerial circus performance from the Estonian-based Three Sisters will also entertain audiences, alongside a family-friendly comedy show devised in Great Yarmouth by Darryl J Carrington.

Between packing lists and last-minute errands, just making it to the airport on time can feel like a feat. During a recent trip from Paris to London via the Eurostar train, Miley Cyrus stepped out in an effortlessly cool outfit that I haven't stopped thinking about. It was understated but spoke volumes about her travel style. In my opinion, the combo of relaxed, cuffed jeans and black Margiela Tabi flats (every fashion person's favorite quirky shoe style) made for the perfect travel look. Cyrus's green trench coat was a smart layering choice for London's rainy, cool weather, and her Maison Margiela handbag added a touch of elegance. When I'm on the move, I usually default to a sweatsuit, but I've been trying to move away from that travel uniform, especially if I need to be somewhere right after landing. I think a lot of us are over the sweatsuit phase, and this outfit is a chic, fuss-free alternative. If you're searching for a stylish travel look, keep scrolling. Prince William to exclude three royals from his reign and give them 'no duties'

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet will have NO royal duties under Prince William's regime. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reportedly expressed a desire to keep HRH titles for their son Archie, aged five, and daughter Lilibet, aged three.. But Prince William will deliver a major snub to Prince Harry by refusing to include them in his monarchy. The Times reports an insider as saying: 'What has struck me the most recently is that he just doesn't mention it at all. "It used to be that the family stuff was taking up a lot of space in his head, it was a very close relationship and he was very upset. But he's not letting it get to him at all any more. It is a change. It's sad, but it's a much healthier space for him to be at.' It means Andrew, too, looks likely to be left out in the cold alongside Lilibet and Archie. It comes after Wills described 2024 as 'probably the worst year of my life' as he dealt with the cancer struggles of his wife as well as father King Charles. The heir to the throne, who also set up a Homewards programme to end homelessness, said: 'I can only describe what I'm trying to do, and that's I'm trying to do it differently and I'm trying to do it for my generation. 'And to give you more of an understanding around it, I'm doing it with maybe a smaller 'r' in the royal, if you like. That's maybe a better way of saying it. 'So it's more about impact philanthropy, collaboration, convening and helping people. And I'm also going to throw empathy in there as well, because I really care about what I do. It helps impact people's lives. And I think we could do with some more empathetic leadership around the world. 'So that's what I'm trying to bring. That's what Catherine is trying to bring as well. 'And I sit here right now doing Earthshot and doing all the projects I'm doing, like Homewards as well. And who knows what's going to come next, but it all centres around those values of trying to help deliver change and make those lives better."

'Redundant' space transformed into family home

A new family home has been built on a garden in Hove as part of a project that looks to transform unused sites into good quality housing. Built through the Hidden Home project, the two-bedroom house on Martin Road is the latest addition to Brighton & Hove City Council's housing stock. This house, which is the 30th delivered since this project began in 2019, is to be let at social rent to ensure it is affordable. Councillor Gill Williams, chair of the housing and new homes committee, says the demand for housing in Brighton and Hove requires "truly innovative solutions". She said: "The Hidden Homes project ensures that we make the best use of pockets of land and redundant spaces on our estates, which would otherwise serve no purpose and remain 'hidden', by transforming them into good quality, comfortable and sustainable new homes." The new home on Martin Road has been built on land which was previously part of the garden of a neighbouring council house. When the vacant home was due to be refurbished, the opportunity was taken to divide the original large garden to provide an additional home. The house is designed to be energy efficient, with an air source heat pump heating system and solar panels to help reduce energy bills. A bee brick and three swift bricks have also been installed to help enhance the local biodiversity. Other homes built through the Hidden Homes project include a three-bedroom family house in Bevendean, and eight additional homes on the Bristol Estate. A former office in Manor Hill, Whitehawk, has also been converted into two flats and a new house. Follow BBC Sussex on Facebook, on X, and on Instagram.
