PennWest Edinboro announces 2025 Athletic Hall of Fame Class
(WJET/WFXP)– Ten former standout Edinboro athletes are being added to the Edinboro Athletic Department Hall of Fame this fall, along with an entire football team.
The 2025 Edinboro Athletics 2025 Hall of Fame Class includes former athletes from softball, wheelchair basketball, women's basketball, women's soccer, women's swimming, and wrestling, while also marking the first time an entire team has been added to the Hall of Fame.
The full class and their honors is as follows:
This is the first entire team to be inducted, having gone 8-0 in the regular season, then knocking off powerhouse West Chester in the playoffs before falling in the NAIA semifinals. The team was awarded the Lambert Trophy as the ECAC Best Team in the East.
Borkowski is regarded by the Hall of Fame Committee as one of the best pitchers in Edinboro history, holding six career records for wins (44), innings pitched (597), strikeouts (590), games pitched (102), complete games (76) and shutouts (24). Her career ERA of 2.09 ranks sixth in school history. She was also a two-time All-PSAC selection, earning first-team honors in 2007 and second-team honors in 2008.
The first and only United Soccer Coaches' Association All-American, Costellow was a four-time All-PSAC selection with three first-team honors and ranks 12th in career assists and 16th in career points with 44.
During his time with the Fighting Scots, Garbino was a National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) second-team All-American in 2008-09 and went on to earn first-team honors in 2011-12. On top of being named to the Hall of Fame, he was also a member of Team USA at the 2011 Para Pan Games and won a gold medal with the team.
Habat carries on the rich tradition of stellar wrestlers at Edinboro, finishing his career with a 134-27 record, good for the fifth most wins in school history. was a four-time PSAC Champion and won EWL Championships in 2013 and 2014.
Port joins Habat in the tradition of stellar Edinboro wrestlers, finishing with a nearly identical record of 132-17. He was a four-time NCAA qualifier, three-time All-American and two-time NCAA runner-up. His 35 career falls rank ninth in Edinboro history.
Another wrestler, Schopp, also finished his career with more than 130 wins while also earning three All-American honors and was a three-time Eastern Wrestling League Champion. He ranks fifth in career wins with a record of 133-17.
A two-time All-American swimmer, Schrecongost holds school records in the 100-freestyle, 200-freestyle, and 500-freestyle to go with two school relay team records in the 400 and 800-freestyle relays. In her senior season, she would finish seventh in the 200 at the NCAA Championships to earn All-American honors and 15th in the 500 freestyle at the 2015 NCAA Championships.
Having played three years with the Fighting Scots, Thomas scored 1,278 points, ranking her 19th in school history for points and was the first person in school history to earn Women's Basketball Coaches' Association First-Team All-American honors twice. She was also a two-time all-region and three-time All-PSAC selection with a pair of first-team choices.
The coach who oversaw the transition of Edinboro wrestling from Division II to Division I, DeAnna coached five Division II National Champions and the Scots' first Division I National Champion and was the National Amateur Wrestling News Rookie Coach of the Year in 1985. He is fourth all-time in wins (54) and winning percentage (.612). In his tenure, he coached 14 All-Americans, with seven Division II and seven Division I.
Founder, Chairman, and President of The Zaf Group, Zafirovski created the family office engaged in operating, investment, and advisory activities while being an avid supporter of Edinboro Athletics. The Hall of Fame Committee said he was instrumental in the construction of the Recreation Dome, which is named after him. He's also the largest annual individual contributor to athletic scholarships, benefiting countless student-athletes.

Orioles' Rutschman out until after All-Star break, Westburg has a sprained left index finger
NEW YORK — Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman likely will be sidelined until after the All-Star break because of a strained left oblique, and infielder Jordan Westburg will be out for at least a few days because of a sprained left index finger sustained even though he wore a sliding mitt. Rutschman felt pain during batting practice on Friday and was scratched. He had an MRI on Saturday. 'He feels something small right there. We all know abdominal and oblique injuries, if you push those things, you can get really ugly. Instead of being three, four weeks, it could be three months,' interim manager Tony Mansolino said Sunday. 'He's kind of going stir crazy. I think the fact that it is mild in nature probably makes it a little harder for him,' Mansolino added. 'They went and got an MRI. They checked it out, which validated that. In his mind, he probably thinks he can possibly go out there, but obviously we know medically that's not the smart thing to do for him right now.' On the injured list for the first time in his big league career, Rutschman is hitting .227 with eight homers and 20 RBIs in 68 games. Westburg injured the finger while stealing second base in Saturday's 9-0 loss to the New York Yankees. 'Actually the sliding mitt that's supposed to protect his hand, that's the one that he did it,' interim manager Tony Mansolino said Sunday. 'Doesn't know how he did it. It's been the same mitt that he's used for a couple years, talking about it this morning. Kind of crazy that he hurt his finger. That's what those things are for.' Westburg missed more than a month with a left hamstring strain before returning on June 10. The 26-year-old is hitting .229 with seven homers and 17 RBIs in 34 games this season. He had 10 hits in his first 25 at-bats before going hitless in his next 14. 'It's sore this morning. We're hoping it's two to three days. If it gets to be longer, then it'll be another conversation at that point,' Mansolino said. 'The X-rays were negative, so it's not fractured. That's the positive. So nothing catastrophic by any means.' Westburg hit .264 with 18 homers and 63 RBIs last year, becoming a first-time All-Star. First baseman Ryan Mountcastle (strained right hamstring) also is on the injured list along with outfielders Tyler O'Neill (left shoulder impingement) and Jorge Mateo (left shoulder inflammation). Right-hander Yannier Cano was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk after striking out the side in the seventh inning Saturday, and right-hander Yaramil Hiraldo was recalled from the Tides on Sunday. 'It starts ultimately with the amount of innings that we've had covered here recently with the bullpen,' Mansolino said. 'We need a fresh arm. You have limited amount of bullpen guys that have options.'

Heat again comes up empty in pursuit of Kevin Durant. Suns trading Durant to Rockets
The Miami Heat again pursued future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant, but the Heat again missed out on the 15-time All-Star forward. The Phoenix Suns are trading Durant to the Houston Rockets, ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Sunday afternoon. The Rockets are sending Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 overall pick in this year's NBA Draft and five second-round picks to the Suns to land Durant, according to ESPN. The Heat was among the teams that engaged the Suns on a potential trade for Durant after being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs in each of the last two seasons. But Miami was only willing to go so far in what players and picks it included in its offer for Durant at this stage of his career, as he'll turn 37 years old on Sept. 29. The Heat improved its initial offer for Durant and that offer received serious consideration, according to a source close to the situation. But in the end, the Suns chose to take the Rockets' offer. This marked at least the fourth time that Miami has attempted to add Durant to its roster over the past decade. The Heat tried to land Durant in free agency during the 2016 offseason (he ended up signing with the Golden State Warriors), then tried to acquire him in 2022 (when he requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets and then ended up being traded to the Suns), and then made an offer for him this past season ahead of the February trade deadline (the Suns ended up keeping Durant for the rest of the season) before again pursuing him early this offseason but again coming up empty. The addition of Durant would have helped the Heat's struggling offense, as Miami has finished with a bottom-10 offensive rating in each of the last three regular seasons. Durant is still one of the NBA's elite scorers even at the back-end of his career. He averaged 26.6 points, six rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 52.7% from the field and 43 percent on six three-point attempts per game this past season for Suns in his 17th NBA season. Durant and three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic were the only two players in the league who averaged at least 25 points per game while shooting better than 50% from the field and better than 40 percent from three-point range last regular season. Instead, the Heat enters the busy part of the NBA offseason still searching for avenues to improve its roster. Aside from being armed with the No. 20 overall pick in Wednesday's first round of the NBA Draft, the Heat also already has 13 players under standard contracts for next season: Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, Andrew Wiggins, Terry Rozier, Duncan Robinson, Kyle Anderson, Haywood Highsmith, Nikola Jovic, Kel'el Ware, Kevin Love, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Pelle Larsson and Keshad Johnson (fully nonguaranteed $2 million salary for next season). The only two players on the Heat's season-ending 15-man standard roster who are set to enter free agency this summer are Davion Mitchell (restricted free agent) and Alec Burks (unrestricted free agent). The Heat is currently operating above the salary cap and stands just $4 million away from the luxury-tax threshold. Unless the Heat sheds salary, it would only have minimum contracts, one of the midlevel exceptions (either the $14.1 million non-taxpayer midlevel exception or the $5.7 taxpayer million mid-level exception) and possibly the $5.1 million bi-annual exception to offer outside free agents this offseason. The two-round NBA Draft will be held on Wednesday (first round) and Thursday (second round), with league-wide free-agent negotiations allowed to begin on June 30 at 6 p.m.
