PennWest Edinboro announces 2025 Athletic Hall of Fame Class

(WJET/WFXP)– Ten former standout Edinboro athletes are being added to the Edinboro Athletic Department Hall of Fame this fall, along with an entire football team. The 2025 Edinboro Athletics 2025 Hall of Fame Class includes former athletes from softball, wheelchair basketball, women's basketball, women's soccer, women's swimming, and wrestling, while also marking the first time an entire team has been added to the Hall of Fame. The full class and their honors is as follows: This is the first entire team to be inducted, having gone 8-0 in the regular season, then knocking off powerhouse West Chester in the playoffs before falling in the NAIA semifinals. The team was awarded the Lambert Trophy as the ECAC Best Team in the East. Borkowski is regarded by the Hall of Fame Committee as one of the best pitchers in Edinboro history, holding six career records for wins (44), innings pitched (597), strikeouts (590), games pitched (102), complete games (76) and shutouts (24). Her career ERA of 2.09 ranks sixth in school history. She was also a two-time All-PSAC selection, earning first-team honors in 2007 and second-team honors in 2008. The first and only United Soccer Coaches' Association All-American, Costellow was a four-time All-PSAC selection with three first-team honors and ranks 12th in career assists and 16th in career points with 44. During his time with the Fighting Scots, Garbino was a National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) second-team All-American in 2008-09 and went on to earn first-team honors in 2011-12. On top of being named to the Hall of Fame, he was also a member of Team USA at the 2011 Para Pan Games and won a gold medal with the team. Habat carries on the rich tradition of stellar wrestlers at Edinboro, finishing his career with a 134-27 record, good for the fifth most wins in school history. was a four-time PSAC Champion and won EWL Championships in 2013 and 2014. Port joins Habat in the tradition of stellar Edinboro wrestlers, finishing with a nearly identical record of 132-17. He was a four-time NCAA qualifier, three-time All-American and two-time NCAA runner-up. His 35 career falls rank ninth in Edinboro history. Another wrestler, Schopp, also finished his career with more than 130 wins while also earning three All-American honors and was a three-time Eastern Wrestling League Champion. He ranks fifth in career wins with a record of 133-17. A two-time All-American swimmer, Schrecongost holds school records in the 100-freestyle, 200-freestyle, and 500-freestyle to go with two school relay team records in the 400 and 800-freestyle relays. In her senior season, she would finish seventh in the 200 at the NCAA Championships to earn All-American honors and 15th in the 500 freestyle at the 2015 NCAA Championships. Having played three years with the Fighting Scots, Thomas scored 1,278 points, ranking her 19th in school history for points and was the first person in school history to earn Women's Basketball Coaches' Association First-Team All-American honors twice. She was also a two-time all-region and three-time All-PSAC selection with a pair of first-team choices. The coach who oversaw the transition of Edinboro wrestling from Division II to Division I, DeAnna coached five Division II National Champions and the Scots' first Division I National Champion and was the National Amateur Wrestling News Rookie Coach of the Year in 1985. He is fourth all-time in wins (54) and winning percentage (.612). In his tenure, he coached 14 All-Americans, with seven Division II and seven Division I. Founder, Chairman, and President of The Zaf Group, Zafirovski created the family office engaged in operating, investment, and advisory activities while being an avid supporter of Edinboro Athletics. The Hall of Fame Committee said he was instrumental in the construction of the Recreation Dome, which is named after him. He's also the largest annual individual contributor to athletic scholarships, benefiting countless student-athletes. Congratulations to all members of the 2025 Edinboro Athletic Hall of Fame class! Slippery Rock star invited to Steelers rookie minicamp

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (WKBN) – Slippery Rock University defensive back Eddie Faulkner IV has been invited to participate in the Pittsburgh Steelers Rookie Minicamp on a tryout basis. Faulkner, who is the son of Steelers running backs coach Eddie Faulkner, attended the University of Pittsburgh's NFL pro day earlier this spring. 'This is awesome for Eddie and for our program to have another guy getting a shot to experience an NFL minicamp,' said SRU head coach Shawn Lutz. 'Not only was Eddie an excellent player that did it all for us on the field over the last four years, he was also an Academic All-American that excelled in the classroom and represented the true meaning of a student-athlete.' Faulkner was a two-time All-PSAC honoree as a defensive back and also earned All-Region and All-America honors as a safety following the 2023 season. He started all 28 games over the last two years, helping The Rock reach the national quarterfinals in 2023 and the national semifinals in 2024. Over four seasons, Faulkner appeared in 52 career games with 36 starts. He tallied 160 total tackles, 15.0 tackles for loss, 7.0 sacks, five interceptions and 17 passes defended. He also forced seven career fumbles, recovered four fumbles, blocked one kick and scored one defensive touchdown. Faulkner becomes the 10th Slippery Rock player to receive at least an invite to an NFL Rookie Minicamp since 2015. The Steelers' rookie mini-camp runs from May 9 to 11.
