After TCS, AP govt allots land to Cognizant in Vizag
Vijayawada: Continuing its aggressive incentive policy stand, Andhra Pradesh govt has decided to allot land to another IT major, Cognizant Technology Solutions , at 99 paisa per acre in Visakhapatnam. The 21.31 acres will be allotted at Kapuluppada area in the city. The State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB), in its recent meeting, approved the proposal of Cognizant to invest Rs 1,583 crore in its new ITES/IT campus. The state govt earlier allotted about 21 acres to another IT services major, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), at 99 paisa per acre. The new campus of TCS is likely to be launched by the end of July. TCS has promised to provide 12,000 jobs. IT minister Nara Lokesh earlier announced that the govt is ready to give land to top IT companies at the same price as that of TCS if they come up with a promise of creating employment opportunities for local youth. "The state govt is committed to turn Visakhapatnam into the IT capital of Andhra Pradesh and a new investment destination for companies. To kick off the investment cycle rolling, a trigger is needed, and TCS will be that moment," Lokesh said earlier, justifying the allotment of land at almost free of cost to TCS. He said Tata Motors went to Gujarat after Narendra Modi, the then chief minister of Gujarat, offered land at 99 paisa per acre. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo "After Tata Motors landed in Gujarat, an entire ecosystem of automobile industry was created," said Lokesh. The discussions with Cognizant were initiated during the World Economic Forum summit in Davos. According to sources, Cognizant is planning its investment in three phases. The company has set a target of March 2029 for commencement of commercial operations. The project will be 100% self-funded. Together, TCS and Cognizant will bring 20,000 IT jobs to Visakhapatnam. Apart from direct employment, every job in the IT sector is expected to create indirect employment for four people. Besides TCS and Cognizant, Google is also planning to set shop in Visakhapatnam, which, according to sources, will be another major turning point in creating a whole ecosystem in new and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and data centres.

Auto supply chain: Tata Motors mulls alternate magnet sources amid China curbs, Chandrasekaran says firm has sufficient inventory
Tata Motors is exploring alternate sources for rare earth magnets and working closely with the government after China restricted exports of critical materials, Chairman N Chandrasekaran said on Friday. He was addressing shareholders at the company's annual general meeting. Responding to concerns over the impact of China's curbs on rare earth element exports, Chandrasekaran said the company is not currently facing any disruption. 'As of now, this is not a concern, but this is something that we are watching very carefully,' he told shareholders. 'We are able to source the magnets that we need, and also we have plans for having the right level of inventory. We are working with the government. Also, we are working on sourcing from alternate sources,' he added, as quoted PTI. China's export restrictions have affected sectors including automobiles and white goods, with the domestic auto industry seeking fast-tracked approvals for magnet imports. On the impact of the Iran-Israel war, Chandrasekaran said it is difficult to predict outcomes in such situations but affirmed the group's resilience. 'They will be able to tide over any of these geopolitical issues in the short term but are completely ready and poised for excellent growth and leverage the opportunity that this industry has to offer,' he said of Tata Motors' commercial vehicle, passenger vehicle, and JLR divisions. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? 'Given the enormous amount of work we have done over the past few years... our businesses are structured to not just handle this environment, but to thrive,' he asserted. Responding to a shareholder query on expanding the passenger vehicle business overseas, Chandrasekaran said Tata Motors is monitoring global developments. 'This is something that we are always in discussions but we are waiting for the right geopolitical environment to be able to launch but we are getting prepared,' he said. On the long-anticipated demerger of Tata Motors' commercial and passenger vehicle businesses into separate listed entities, Chandrasekaran said the process should conclude in the December quarter. 'First, the PV company will list and then the CV company will list a couple of months later,' he added. Stay informed with the latest business news, updates on bank holidays and public holidays . Air India CEO reacts to online backlash over 'lack of visibility' at crew's funerals after Ahmedabad plane crash
Air India CEO and managing director Campbell Wilson on Friday issued clarification on "lack of visibility of" the airline at the services held for the colleagues deceased in the Ahmedabad plane crash, saying that senior representatives were present for each and every one. Air India CEO Campbell Wilson said the airline has voluntarily decided to continue conducting "additional pre-flight checks" for the time.(Reuters) The CEO's statement comes against the backdrop of the recent crash of Air India AI171 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft in Gujarat's Ahmedabad, which claimed the lives of 270 people. Families of the victims, whose bodies have been handed over following DNA identification, have been holding final services for their loved ones. In an official communication, the CEO said, "You may have read social media commentary on Air India's perceived lack of visibility at the services held for our colleagues. I can assure you that we have had senior representation at each and every one. We are, however, taking care that our presence does not cause disruption at a time so important for families and loved ones, as a matter of respect." ALSO READ | Air India's heartfelt tribute to pilot Clive Kunder: 'A young aviator full of promise' The Air India CEO also assured of continued transparency and support to both its employees and customers, saying that the airline, and its umbrella Tata Group, will stand by the families of the Ahmedabad crash victims and affected staff even long after the crisis subsides. "We continue to mourn for the lives lost in the AI171 tragedy, and to support those who have been affected. Around 500 colleagues from Air India and 17 other Tata companies remain in Ahmedabad to help the families of passengers, crew and those on the ground. Progress is being made, together with the authorities, on reconciling families with their loved ones, and as of this morning more than 200 have received some degree of solace and closure," he said. Wilson said resounded Air India chairman N Chandrasekaran's words and said that these families are "now Tata families". Additionally, the CEO said that Air India is supporting everyone, including employees who served in Ahmedabad. Upon their return, the staffers are being given a mandatory break along with counselling. "The counselling services, which are confidential and provided by professionals, continue to be available to everyone and I encourage you to avail of it," he stated. 'Won't release aircraft, if any doubt' The Air India Managing Director also assured the public that the company "will not release any aircraft for service" if there is any doubt over its functioning. Wilson also affirmed that Air India's entire fleet of aircraft, especially Boeing 787, remains safe to operate after comprehensive checks. "Have our aircraft been deemed safe? Yes. We have completed the additional precautionary checks on our operating Boeing 787 fleet as requested by the DGCA, who have publicly declared that they meet required standards," he said. "Where there is any doubt, we will not release aircraft -- of any type -- for service," Wilson added. What happened on June 12? CEO Campbell Wilson also took the moment to respond to a question he said he has been faced with repeatedly, "What happened?" Noting that there are several theories floating around about the Air India AI171 crash, CEO Wilson said that the accident is "now under official investigation by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, it is not appropriate for us to comment or speculate". "We are providing all information requested by the AAIB and are cooperating completely. It is vital that the facts, whatever they may be, are known so that we and the industry at large can learn from them," he added. He also responded to a query on whether the investigation's report will be available, saying that it is "completely up to the AAIB". Wilson noted that the final report of the probe could take many months, even though AAIB might choose to issue interim updates or reports. "If there is any discovery during the investigation that suggests airlines or suppliers need to change something urgently, we have confidence that such information would be shared quickly. For our part, we will be transparent with what is shared with us," he added. Reduction in Air India flights Air India CEO Campbell Wilson noted that the additional pre-check flights reduce the number of hours its aircraft are available to operate. Additionally, the extra flight time arising due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East region and the closure of Pakistan has prompted the airline to reduce the amount of flying over the coming weeks, he added. Asked about Air India's future plans, Wilson said that the airline will learn whatever it can from the tragic event so that "we are stronger in future". He assured that Air India's aim in every respect, safety, quality, service, scale, professionalism, reach, or any other dimensions, "remains the same if not higher than before".
