Will not release aircraft for service ‘where there is any doubt', Air India CEO tells staff
Air India has voluntarily decided to continue with enhanced pre-flight checks and will not release any aircraft for service 'where there is any doubt', the Tata group airline's CEO Campbell Wilson wrote in a message to the carrier's employees a week after the deadly crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8 aircraft in Ahmedabad. Wilson also reiterated that Air India is cooperating completely in the air crash investigation as it is 'vital that the facts, whatever they may be, are known'. Wilson also said that even though a tragic crash has taken place, Air India's ambition on all counts, including safety and quality, stays the same, 'if not higher than before'. He also assured staff that Air India continues to have the full support of both its shareholders—Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines. 'We have completed the additional precautionary checks on our operating Boeing 787 fleet as requested by the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation), who have publicly declared that they meet required standards. We have also, as a matter of abundant precaution, voluntarily decided to continue additional pre-flight checks for the time being. Where there is any doubt, we will not release aircraft—of any type—for service,' Wilson told staff. An Air India Boeing 787-8 aircraft—operating flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed moments after take-off last Thursday. The ill-fated aircraft had 242 people on board, but only one survived the accident. There were several casualties on the ground as well. This was the worst aviation disaster involving an Indian airline in at least four decades, and the first-ever crash of the Boeing 787 anywhere in the world. The crash is being investigated by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB). 'This has been a tragic event and we will learn whatever we can from it so that we are stronger in future. However, our aim in every respect, be it safety, quality, service, scale, reach, professionalism or any other dimension, remains the same if not higher than before,' Wilso said. The Air India CEO also dismissed speculation that Air India management was absent at the last rites of the crew of the doomed flight, assuring employees that the airline had 'senior representation' at each service. 'You may have read social media commentary on the perceived lack of visibility of Air India at the services held for our colleagues. I can assure you that we have had senior representation at each and every one. We are, however, taking care that our presence does not cause disruption at a time so important for families and loved ones, as a matter of respect,' he stated. Wilson said that he had met many Air India staff members who had some similar questions about the crash. In his communication to staff on Friday, the Air India CEO attempted to answer some of those. 'There are many theories (about why the aircraft crashed) but, as the accident is now under official investigation by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, it is not appropriate for us to comment or speculate. We are providing all information requested by the AAIB and are cooperating completely. It is vital that the facts, whatever they may be, are known so that we and the industry at large can learn from them,' Wilson said. On the question of when the investigation report is expected, Wilson said: 'This is completely up to the AAIB. The final report can take many months, though the AAIB may choose to issue interim updates or reports. If there is any discovery during the investigation that suggests airlines or suppliers need to change something urgently, we have confidence that such information would be shared quickly. For our part, we will be transparent with what is shared with us'. Wilson also reiterated that Air India and the Tata group will continue supporting the families of victims 'long after the work in Ahmedabad is done for'. 'This is equally true for those of our colleagues, who we will support in the same way. We are also supporting those staff who have served in Ahmedabad upon their return to base with a mandatory break and counselling. The counselling services, which are confidential and provided by professionals, continue to be available to everyone and I encourage you to avail of it,' Wilson said. Tata Steel Expands Digital Platform to Empower MSMEs
You're reading Entrepreneur India, an international franchise of Entrepreneur Media. Tata Steel has rolled out a broader version of its e-commerce platform, DigECA, opening access to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the company announced in a press release. Previously limited to channel partners, DigECA is now aimed at emerging corporate accounts (ECAs), a category under which Tata Steel classifies MSMEs. The platform is designed to streamline how these businesses purchase flat steel products, including Tata Astrum, Tata Steelium, and Galvano. The launch marks a significant step in Tata Steel's digital strategy, building on the foundation laid by its earlier B2C portal, Aashiyana. DigECA offers MSMEs direct transactional capabilities and real-time visibility into product availability, order status, and delivery, removing the dependence on traditional distribution chains. According to the company, the intent is to offer a more efficient and transparent supply experience, tailored to the evolving needs of smaller businesses. Since its pilot in the fourth quarter of FY25, DigECA has onboarded over 2,000 ECA customers and registered notable progress in gross merchandise value. Tata Steel attributes this early growth to the platform's focus on reducing friction in the procurement process, from inquiry through to post-supply support. Prabhat Kumar, vice president, marketing & sales (Flat Products) at Tata Steel, said the expansion of DigECA is part of a larger shift toward customer-centric digital solutions. "At Tata Steel, we are committed to enhancing customer satisfaction through digital innovation," he said in a statement. "With the launch of DigECA for our ECA customers, we are simplifying the steel buying experience and strengthening their direct engagement with Tata Steel. The platform is designed to enable a more connected and efficient relationship between customers and our distribution network, helping us better align our offerings with evolving market needs." While DigECA's focus remains on flat steel products, its long-term aim appears to be more ambitious, deepening the company's presence across India's MSME ecosystem and modernizing how industrial buyers interact with major steel producers.

Air India CEO denies funeral absence claims, reaffirms Tata support
Campbell Wilson affirms management attended all AI171 crew funerals, says families are now Tata families, and outlines safety checks and scaled operations post-crash Deepak Patel New Delhi Air India Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Campbell Wilson on Friday said senior executives of the airline were present at the funeral of every flight crew member who perished in the June 12 AI171 crash, dismissing 'social media commentary' that alleged otherwise. 'We have had senior representation at each and every one,' Wilson wrote in a message to employees, adding that the management chose to keep a low profile 'as a matter of respect', to avoid disrupting services 'so important for families and loved ones'. Wilson also said the airline is supporting the families of the deceased crew members as it would those of its own staff. 'These families are now Tata families,' he said, echoing a statement by Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran. About 500 employees from Air India and 17 other Tata Group companies are in Ahmedabad assisting families of passengers, crew and residents affected by the tragedy. 'We will continue supporting those affected long after the work in Ahmedabad is done,' Wilson said. On the ongoing investigation into the crash of flight AI171 — which killed 241 people, including 34 on the ground — Wilson said the airline is fully cooperating with the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB). 'What happened? There are many theories but, as the accident is now under official investigation by the AAIB, it is not appropriate for us to comment or speculate. We are providing all information requested by the AAIB and are cooperating completely. It is vital that the facts, whatever they may be, are known so that we and the industry at large can learn from them,' he said. 'If there is any discovery during the investigation that suggests airlines or suppliers need to change something urgently, we have confidence that such information would be shared quickly. For our part, we will be transparent with what is shared with us,' he noted. The AI171 flight had 242 people — 10 cabin crew members, two pilots and 230 passengers — on board. All but one passenger died in the crash. Wilson, in his message, reassured staff that Air India's Boeing 787 fleet has passed the additional checks ordered by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). 'We have also, as a matter of abundant caution, voluntarily decided to continue additional pre-flight checks... Where there is any doubt, we will not release aircraft — of any type — for service,' he noted. He explained that these checks, along with airspace restrictions over the Middle East and Pakistan, have led to temporary flight reductions. 'We will progressively restore (services) when the time is right,' he said. Air India on Thursday night announced the suspension of its Delhi–Nairobi, Amritsar–London (Gatwick), and Goa (Mopa)–London (Gatwick) services, and reduction of frequencies on many other international routes, as part of a temporary scaling down of operations on its long-haul network. The airline cited voluntary enhanced safety inspections and extended flight durations due to airspace closures in the Middle East as the reasons for the move, which will take effect from June 21 and continue at least until July 15. Despite the setback, Wilson on Friday maintained that Air India's long-term ambitions remain intact. 'Our aim in every respect — be it safety, quality, service, scale, reach, professionalism or any other dimension — remains the same, if not higher than before,' he said, adding that the airline continues to have the 'full support of both shareholders'. Tata Group and Singapore Airlines hold 74.9 per cent and 25.1 per cent shares in Air India. Wilson ended the note by urging employees to stay focused on safety and professionalism. 'Let us continue to perform our roles as professionally as we possibly can, with complete focus on safety — and, as always, with care for our customers and each other,' he wrote.

Tata Harrier EV: Here are 5 features that make the SUV stand out from its rivals
Tata Motors has introduced its newest electric SUV, the Harrier EV, in India at an introductory starting price of ₹ 21.49 lakh (ex-showroom). This premium electric SUV enhances the homegrown automaker's strong presence in the Indian electric passenger vehicle market, where Tata Motors already leads the competition with its diverse array of products including the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, and Curvv EV. (Also check out: Upcoming cars in India) As the Tata Harrier EV joins its aforementioned siblings in revitalising the EV segment, it also poses a challenge to competitors like the Mahindra XEV 9e and Mahindra BE 6, among others. The Tata Harrier EV comes loaded with a wide array of features, many of which are segment-leading. For those considering the purchase of an electric SUV in the above ₹ 20 lakh segment and feeling perplexed between the Tata Harrier EV and the Mahindra BE 6, this guide highlights the key features that the Tata SUV offers over its counterpart from Mahindra. Moreover, the Tata Harrier EV comes with an electric Boss mode for the co-driver's seat. This innovative feature enables the rear seat occupant to electronically move the front passenger seat forward, thereby increasing legroom and knee space for rear-seat passengers. Conversely, the Mahindra BE 6 features powered front seats with a memory function for the driver's seat, but does not provide this convenience technology. One of the most intriguing and unique features of the Tata Harrier EV is its Summon Mode, allowing the driver to move the vehicle forward or backwards using the key fob, without needing to enter the vehicle. Furthermore, this electric SUV features a reverse assist capability that recalls the last 50 metres driven and can automatically retrace the same route. Although the Mahindra BE 6 also offers automatic parking, it lacks the reverse memory feature. Additionally, the Tata Harrier EV not only presents a 360-degree view of the vehicle but also provides a remarkable 540-degree camera view. A notable feature is the added view of the terrain beneath the SUV's bonnet, which includes a transparent mode. This allows the driver to visually assess the terrain under the vehicle, facilitating easier driving on rough surfaces. The Mahindra BE 6, on the other hand, is equipped with a standard 360-degree camera with blind spot detection, but does not include an underbody view. A standout feature within the cabin of the Tata Harrier EV is its digital IRVM, which integrates a dashcam. This IRVM provides a live video feed captured by a roof-mounted camera, displaying the rear view of the vehicle. It includes various soft-touch buttons that enable the user to take snapshots, zoom in and out for better image or video details, and browse through older recordings and images. In contrast, the Mahindra BE 6 is equipped with a standard auto-dimming IRVM. The Tata Harrier EV is equipped with a larger 14.5-inch QLED touchscreen infotainment system, offering a plethora of connectivity features, in comparison to the Mahindra BE 6's 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. Both systems provide wireless connectivity options for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Tata Harrier EV offers multiple terrain modes, comprising a total of six distinct options: Normal, Rock Crawl, Mud Ruts, Snow/Grass, Sand, and a Custom setting. In comparison, the Mahindra BE 6 is limited to just three driving modes: Range, Everyday, and Race.
