LA mayor rails against ‘insulting' Vance visit: A ‘photo-op'
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D) called Vice President Vance's remarks 100 percent lies after Vance traveled to Los Angeles on Friday to show support for the Marines deployed during the anti-ICE protests.
'He comes in, he makes all of these statements about what is not happening in LA at all, then insults the senator that he serves with now, as president of the Senate, so it was just disrespectful and it was tough listening to him saying what is going on in our city and it be 100 percent lies,' said Bass.
Vance, in front of federal, state and local officials in Los Angeles, justified President Trump's decision to send in the National Guard and Marines to squash anti-immigration protests last week.
During his remarks, Vance insinuated that California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and Bass were encouraging the protestors and preventing law enforcement from doing their jobs.
He referred to the protests as 'riots' and said it was necessary to send the National Guard as the violence was uncontrollable by local law enforcement.
The vice president came to LA after a three-judge federal appeals court panel unanimously ruled on Thursday that Trump was allowed to deploy the National Guard in Los Angeles.
Newsom sued Trump over his use of the National Guard, as he was not consulted prior to their deployment.
During Vance's remarks he also misnamed Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), calling him Jose Padilla.
'I was hoping Jose Padilla would be here to ask a question,' Vance said. 'I guess he decided not to show up because there wasn't a theater.'
Padilla was forcibly removed from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) press briefing last week after trying to ask a question. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem claimed the senator did not identify himself. Video footage showed he did identify himself when making remarks. The scene created a scandal among Democrats who fear a normalization of violence against elected officials.
'He knows my name,' Padilla told MSNBC on Saturday. 'Look, sadly, it's just an indicator of how petty and unserious this administration is. But he's the vice president of the United States. You think he'd take the situation in Los Angeles more seriously.'
Democratic allies of Padilla say it was done intentionally and accuse the vice president of blatant disrespect.

Memorial Day weekend shooting leaves 11 injured near North Myrtle Beach as police hunt suspects
South Carolina authorities continue to search for the suspect or suspects who carried out a mass shooting that left 11 people injured on Sunday evening in Little River, near North Myrtle Beach. The Horry County Police Department described the shooting as an isolated incident stemming from an altercation on a charter boat during a private Memorial Day gathering. There were about 124 people onboard the boat, including four crew members, when the shooting occurred, Horry County police said during a Tuesday press conference. Three victims are still hospitalized while eight have been released, authorities said during the press conference. "This type of violence will not be tolerated in Horry County," HCPD Chief Kris Leonhardt said. "We are going to do our very best to investigate this case and bring criminal charges against these folks that have caused this incident here in our county." Horry County Fire Department Chief Joseph Tanner said authorities initially got a call around 9:15 p.m. reporting an injury and responded accordingly. Upon arrival, officials located multiple gunshot-wounded victims. The charter boat party attendees were from out of town, Leonhardt said, making it more difficult to track down witnesses. A total of 10 victims sustained gunshot wounds and another person reported an unknown injury not related to gunfire, the police department said in a Monday press release. Some victims were recovered from the water, the North Myrtle Beach Police Department (NMBPD) said in a separate press release. "Of those, the worst of the injured are in critical but stable condition at area hospitals," Horry County police said in a press release. Videos and photos posted to social media on Sunday evening showed a heavy police presence in the area of the Dolphin Cruise parking lot in Little River, located north of North Myrtle Beach. NMBPD also said the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating a separate incident involving a responding North Myrtle Beach officer who was injured with his own firearm near the Harbourgate Marina in North Myrtle Beach. "A NMBPD Officer was entering a gate to the dock when his rifle discharged twice, with one of the rounds striking his leg," the department said in its press release. "At the time of the discharge, the Officer had both of his hands on the gate, which was confirmed by later video evidence. Due to the Officer not attempting to utilize his weapon at the time, all Officers on scene believed that shots were being fired from the marina area." The officer was transported to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery for his injuries. Video footage obtained from a witness apparently shows the incident, and authorities determined that "the discharge was from the wounded Officer's rifle," and the scene was released to SLED. Horry County police said the shooting remains under investigation, and "there is currently no associated risk to the community." Crime concerns in and around Myrtle Beach have been heightened since April 26, when a shooting in the Myrtle Beach entertainment district left the shooter dead and 11 victims injured. Myrtle Beach officials described the shooting as an isolated incident at the time. At least 1 dead, 10 shot during South Carolina Juneteenth event near veterans' center
Nearly a dozen people were shot Saturday night near a South Carolina veterans' center during a "Juneteenth celebration." The Anderson County Sheriff's Office confirmed at least 10 people were shot, and one person is dead after a fight in the parking lot of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post. One person was flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital and at least eight others were taken to nearby hospitals in Anderson and Greenville. The crowd, which included hundreds of people, gathered for the county's sixth annual Juneteenth celebration, sheriff's officials wrote in a statement provided to Fox News Digital. Following the shooting, hundreds of people scattered, leaving behind shoes and debris in the road. In what officials called a "chaotic scene," more than 50 law enforcement personnel, EMS, firefighters, troopers and South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) officers responded. "This remains an active investigation and detectives and deputies continue to work this unfolding scene," the agency said.

‘Luxury' apartments deceived low-income seniors, Washington attorney general alleges
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Washington Attorney General Nick Brown filed a lawsuit against several apartment complexes, and their property management firms for allegedly 'deceiving' low-income seniors. Attorney General Brown filed the lawsuit Friday in Snohomish County Superior Court against the California-based property management company FPI Management and the owners of five apartments in Western Washington, including Vintage Housing Holdings and AMCAL multi-housing. The suit alleges that the property management firms engaged in 'unfair and deceptive practices,' impacting hundreds of senior tenants. However, over the course of several years, FPI and the property owners failed to disclose to their low-income senior tenants that their rent would be calculated and increase in the future, while also misrepresenting the quality of the apartments, the availability and quality of apartment amenities such as pools and fitness areas along with safety at the properties. Now, Attorney General Brown argues these issues violate the Consumer Protection Act. 'It's egregious to convince vulnerable populations they're getting quality living when in reality they are stuck with properties in disrepair that also end up costing more than they expected over time.' According to Brown, the property owners participate in the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program and receive tax credits in exchange for setting aside some apartment units for tenants below a certain income threshold. Under the tax credit program, the maximum rental rates are set every year by the United States Department of Housing Urban Development, based on the rise or fall of the area median income in the county of the property, the Attorney General's Office said, noting, 'This is unlike other forms of housing assistance, in which the amount of rent a tenant will pay is based on their own income, and not the income of other people in the area.' Subscribe Now Attorney General Brown claims that FPI and the property owners did not explain to prospective tenants that their rent will be calculated based on the area median income, which is 'often significantly more' than Social Security or pension incomes most seniors rely on. This leads to tenants often paying 'an unsustainable portion' of their income on rent with little living expenses for food, transportation or medical expenses, Brown's office explained. Additionally, the Attorney General alleges that the property owners misrepresented the quality of their buildings by marketing them as 'luxury' or 'resort style,' at complexes including Vintage at Everett, Mill Creek and Tacoma. Some tenants moved in to find dirty units with broken appliances, leaks, mold, worn carpets and torn flooring among other issues. The apartment complexes were also not as secure as advertised, Brown's office alleges, noting many of the complexes had no one monitoring who was entering the sites, leading to trespassing and other crimes on site along with frequent prowling in parking lots. With this lawsuit, the attorney general seeks an injunction to stop the property owners from continuing their 'unlawful' practices, and to provide restitution to the impacted tenants along with a civil penalty of $12,500 for each Consumer Protection Act violation. In a statement to KOIN 6 News, Vintage Housing Holdings said, 'Vintage Housing disputes the Attorney General's allegations and will address them in court.
