Paige Bueckers gets road ovation in Connecticut homecoming, scores career-high 21 points to lead Wings past Sun

Tuesday was a good day to be Paige Bueckers.
The Wings rookie was greeted on the road with a raucous ovation. She then led Dallas to a xxx-xxx win over the Connecticut Sun.
The win was the first of the season for Dallas and the first of Bueckers' WNBA career since she joined the Wings as the No. 1 pick in April's draft. She sparked the Dallas victory while posting a career-high xx points alongside seven assists, five rebounds, two steals and one block. She shot 8 for 10 from the field in what was easily the best game of her burgeoning career as a pro.
Bueckers' day at work started with a warm greeting from the fans at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, the site of UConn's Big East tournament championship run just two months earlier.
Bueckers played a legendary college career at UConn that featured three All-America selections and National Player of the Year honors that she capped with a national championship in April. When she took the court Tuesday night, she heard the love from the opposing crowd.

Once the ball was tipped, Bueckers proceeded to assist on the first three Dallas buckets of the night. She then hit back-to-back jumpers to spot the Wings an 11-5 lead as she scored or assisted on each of Dallas' first five field goals. By halftime, she had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists, and the Wings were in control with a 56-42 lead.
They didn't slow down after halftime. Dallas maintained control of the game after the break.
Bueckers turned defense into offense midway through the third quarter with a block on one end that led to her own layup on the other.

Minutes later, she matched her previous career-high 19 points with a contested pull-up jumper to beat the shot clock in the third quarter. Another jumper moments later pushed Bueckers to 21 points for the first 20-plus point effort of her brief WNBA career.
Bueckers didn't score again, but she didn't need to as the Wings opened things up in the fourth quarter en route to the xx-point victory.
With the win, the Wings improved to 1-4 while sending the Sun to a WNBA-worst 0-5 start. The Wings have back-to-back upcoming games against Angel Reese and the 0-3 Chicago Sky as they seed to add to their win tally.

Lefty Shota Imanaga will rejoin the Cubs next week in St. Louis

Associated Press CHICAGO (AP) — Left-hander Shota Imanaga will rejoin the Chicago Cubs early next week in St. Louis following a sharp Triple-A rehab start on Friday, manager Craig Counsell said Saturday. Counsell wasn't sure when Imanaga would be slotted into Chicago's rotation but said before the Cubs' game against the Seattle Mariners that the 31-year-old 'is gonna make his next start in the big leagues." Imanaga, who was 15-3 with a 2.91 ERA as a rookie last season, is coming back from a left hamstring strain. He got hurt covering first base during the sixth inning of a 4-0 loss at Milwaukee on May 4. Imanaga is 3-2 with a 2.82 ERA in eight starts for the Cubs this season. His return is expected to provide a lift to the NL Central leaders, who entered Saturday 4 1/2 games in front of Milwaukee and St. Louis. Imanaga tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings of two-hit ball for Triple-A Iowa at Nashville on Friday night. He struck out eight and walked two. 'Everything went great,' Counsell said. 'Did what we hoped he would do. He's in a position to be ready. So he's going to join us in St. Louis and we'll figure out the next steps.' Before the transition to Iowa, Imanaga pitched six scoreless innings over two rehab starts in the Arizona Complex League. He had a bullpen session in Arizona last Tuesday. Imanaga signed a $53 million, four-year contract with Chicago in January 2024. He often dazzled in 29 starts last season, making the NL All-Star team and finishing fourth in balloting for the NL Rookie of the Year. Also Saturday, the Cubs recalled right-hander Nate Pearson from Iowa and designated lefty Genesis Cabrera for assignment. Pearson is 3-1 with a 2.22 ERA in 19 appearances since he was optioned to Iowa on April 15. Cabrera had an 8.68 ERA in nine games with the Cubs. He signed with Chicago on May 29 after being designated for assignment by the Mets. ___ AP MLB: recommended

Caitlin Clark leads WNBA first returns All-Star voting

N After a record-setting rookie season for the Indiana Fever and an impressive start to her 2025 campaign, the WNBA revealed its first return on voting for the 2025 All-Star Game on Friday, with guard Caitlin Clark leading all players. Clark, who missed five games with a left quadriceps strain, averages 19.9 points on 41.7% shooting from the field, 35.5% from 3-point territory, and 79.4% from the free throw line in seven games played so far. While the former Hawkeye had an off-performance Thursday night against the Golden State Valkyries, Clark continues to be a driving force for the Fever and the television viewership numbers for the league overall. Joining Clark atop the first round of All-Star voting is Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier, followed by fellow Fever forward Aaliyah Boston, Las Vegas Aces center A'ja Wilson, and New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart rounding out the top five. Regarding what makes up the voting numbers, fans account for 50%, while all current players and a media panel will account for 25% each. The fan voting portion of balloting ends Saturday, June 28. With this year's WNBA All-Star game taking place from Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind., the overwhelming vote for Clark is not surprising, considering her iconic global reputation and outstanding on-court performance. Cowboys' New-Look Run Game Gets Embarrassing Ranking from PFF

Cowboys' New-Look Run Game Gets Embarrassing Ranking from PFF originally appeared on Athlon Sports. We hope Dallas Cowboys' running back coach Derrick Foster reads Pro Football Focus, because if he does, his room has just gotten the ultimate source of motivation ahead of the 2025 season. Advertisement With Miles Sanders, Javonte Williams, Deuce Vaughn and Jaydon Blue making up the new-look rushing attack, many feel rather bullish on what the group can do behind a revamped offensive line and run game wizards Klayton Adams and Conor Riley. However, Pro Football Focus hasn't gotten that memo and has delivered an embarrassing ranking to the Cowboys' run game. Out of 32 running back rooms, the publication has Dallas dead last entering the new season. "The Cowboys allowed their two leading rushers, Rico Dowdle and Ezekiel Elliott, to leave in free agency," Pro Football Focus writes. "Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders have since taken their place." Advertisement "Williams struggled in Denver, recording just a 64.6 PFF rushing grade over the past three seasons. Sanders has yet to rediscover the high level of production he showed in 2022 with Philadelphia. Fifth-round rookie Jaydon Blue could provide a boost with his speed and receiving ability, but he's never been a workhorse type of back. Dallas' running back situation could become a major issue during the 2025 season." by Mike Fisher There's your motivation. Last season, despite the diabolical run game, Dallas wasn't last; yet, many think it could be worse in 2025. The only thing left to do is to prove the doubters wrong, and we feel the Cowboys have the tools to do so. Now, we aren't expecting a Washington Commanders-like turnaround, but the ground game "should" be better than a year ago. Advertisement Yes, we are projecting here, but if the running back room needed any other motivation ahead of the 2025 season with head coach Brian Schottenheimer, they just got it. Dead last? Sheesh.
