Ina Niiniketo, restaurateur at Canvas Canteen located in Helsinki, recently traveled to New York to team up with US Top Chef contender and private chef Lana Lagomarsini at Visit Finland's 'Taste of Finland – A Midsummer Pop-up'.
Restaurant Nolita, sister to Nolla, has started a new program called 'Co-Hosted Dinner Service'. Past guests have included Restaurant Lux from Rotterdam and the rising bistro star Barbarea from Tallinn. This initiative injects new energy and international influence into Helsinki's dining scene, fostering culinary exchange. Nolla – renowned for pushing boundaries in sustainability and collaboration – is preparing a pop-up on July 12th in Helsinki with chef Matthew Orlando, former Noma chef and the founder of Amass in Copenhagen, further cementing Helsinki's place on the global gastronomic map.

The new À la Park festival invites restaurants from Helsinki and beyond to participate, featuring highlights such as Finnish chef and Noma veteran Toni Toivanen, who will present an extended tasting menu during the event. Flow Festival continues to be at the forefront in their high quality and versatile food offering. The festival's sustainability efforts include a commitment to becoming fully vegan in the coming years.
The city of Helsinki has actively woven food culture into its urban fabric from curated summer terraces to lively pedestrian streets creating fresh, inviting spaces for gastronomy to flourish. The legendary "lippakioski", Helsinki's iconic canopy kiosks, have experienced a remarkable renaissance after decades of obscurity, reviving a cherished part of the city's culinary heritage as a new generation of entrepreneurs give them fresh relevance in the city's evolving culinary scene.

Olive Garden and LongHorn help Darden beat earnings as Americans keep dining out
It seems Americans can't get enough of Olive Garden's never-ending soup or salad and breadsticks: The chain's parent company reported quarterly results on Friday that buck a broader slump in dining out trends. Darden Restaurants reported stronger-than-expected sales and earnings growth in its most-recent quarter that slightly beat analysts' estimates. The Orlando-based company reported that same-store sales increased 6.9% at Olive Garden and 6.7% at LongHorn Steakhouse, which both beat analysts' expectations. Across the company's 11 brands, same-restaurant sales rose 4.6%. The company, not surprisingly, credits its model for its success. Rick Cardenas, Darden's president and CEO, said the company has been 'very prudent' in keeping its price changes below inflation. 'What we believe is happening right now in the casual dining space is our consumers are figuring out that casual dining is a great value,' he said Friday on a call with Wall Street analysts. 'Consumers want to go out and spend their hard-earned money, and we think we're taking some wallet share from fast food and fast casual.' Americans have soured on fast food lately, as both McDonald's and Chipotle reported declines in same-store sales during their first quarters, albeit for different timeframes than Darden. Traffic at U.S. quick-service restaurants—which includes the likes of McDonald's and Chipotle—has been steadily declining, and fell again in May versus last year, according to figures from Revenue Management Solutions (RMS), which provides insights about the restaurant industry. Saving money is the main reason keeping people from heading out to eat, as 69% of Americans say they're eating at home more often, according to KPMG's Consumer Pulse Summer 2025 report. And consumers surveyed said they expect to spend 7% less at restaurants each month this summer. Olive Garden's Momentum Despite weakness elsewhere in the industry, Darden is forecasting solid growth in its 2026 fiscal year that's now underway. The company forecast total sales growth of 7% to 8% following gains of 6% in the 2025 fiscal year. One thing that's helped Olive Garden, Darden's biggest brand, is a delivery partnership with Uber Direct. In the most-recent quarter, Uber Direct accounted for about 3.5% of Olive Garden's total sales. And more broadly, Cardenas said that Darden is focusing on how to keep up its recent strength, particularly for Olive Garden. 'We're going to continue to find ways to keep that momentum going.'

H&M sales expected to edge higher as turnaround continues
H&M ( investors will be hoping the high street fashion chain shows it is on the road to recovery next week despite caution among many shoppers. The retailer is expected to report a slight rise in sales for the latest quarter in an update on Thursday June 26 as it continues with its turnaround strategy. It comes after the Swedish firm reported weaker-than-expected sales for the first quarter of its financial year in its previous update in March. H&M saw net sales grow 2% to 55.3 billion Swedish krona (£4.24 billion) for the three months to February 28. However, it flagged that this slowed down to 1% in March amid continued pressure on consumer finances. Sales growth was also knocked by H&M's plans to trim its store estate and help simplify its operations over the past year. H&M said it had 40 net store closures over the quarter and has continued to shut sites in recent months. The overhaul of its store estate is part of a major turnaround plan under Daniel Erver, who became chief executive last year. The group, which also owns & Other Stories and Cos, is seeking to accelerate recent sluggish growth. Deutsche Bank's Adam Cochrane stressed however that trading in the latest quarter is 'unlikely to be the turning point'. He added: 'H&M is progressing through its turnaround but there will be relatively limited evidence of this in Q2, given the unhelpful weather conditions around Europe and the impact of negative currency exchange translation. 'Our updated earnings forecast of 5.6 billion Swedish krona is showing a 21% decline year-on-year, better than 42% in Q1 but still hard to provide evidence of a sustainable turnaround.' Mr Cochrane added that a build up in stock inventory at the end of the first quarter is unlikely to have completely unwound in recent months and could pose 'a further problem' going into the second half of the year. Deutsche Bank predicted H&M would see sales growth slow to 1.5% for the latest quarter but indicated this would be a roughly 5% drop once currency rates are taken into account. Jefferies equity analyst James Grzinic is more pessimistic, pointing to growth of 0.5% for the quarter. He said the brokerage is taking a 'more cautious view' to H&M's recent trading, after signs that the rival Chinese platforms are 'losing momentum' in the US. Meanwhile, fellow rival Inditex ( which owns Zara and Pull & Bear, saw growth slow down to 6% in recent weeks.
