Convocation ceremony of 83 cadets held at INA
Kannur, May 30 (UNI) The Indian Naval Academy (INA) held its 25th convocation ceremony on Friday in which 83 Midshipmen of the 107th and 108th Indian Naval Academy Course, including 5 foreign cadets from 3 friendly foreign countries were awarded their B. Tech degrees in the presence of their parents by Dr Jaiteerath R Joshi, Director General of BrahMos.
The 'Chief of the Naval Staff Rolling Trophy' for the Midshipman adjudged best in Applied Electronics and Communication (AEC), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), and Mechanical Engineering (ME) streams were awarded to Midshipman Dhanvin Saini, Midshipman Dhavalkumar G Korvadiya and Midshipman Nakul Saxena respectively.
The graduating Midshipmen acquired their B. Tech degrees in Applied Electronics and Communication Engineering (AEC), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), and Mechanical Engineering (ME), under the aegis of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
The chief guest congratulated the graduating Midshipmen, their parents, as well as the instructors and staff at INA. He administered the convocation oath and also awarded trophies to meritorious Midshipmen.
INA Commandant Vice Admiral CR Praveen Nair, Deputy Commandant Rear Admiral Prakash Gopalan, Chief Instructor INA, Rear Admiral G Rambabu, Principal INA, and all instructors participated in the event, an INA release said.

Indian Coast Guard marks IDY with ‘Yoga Sangam'
New Delhi, June 21 (UNI) The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) marked the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on Saturday under its flagship 'Yoga Sangam,' with participation from over 60 locations across India's coastline in the Northwest, Western, Eastern, Southern, and island territories. From the bustling bases on the Western Seaboard, including Mumbai, Goa, Karwar, and Mangalore, to the Eastern Seaboard in Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Paradeep, and Haldia, the spirit of yoga was visible across its units. The Southern Region, including Mandapam and Kochi, as well as island locations like Port Blair, also reported high levels of engagement. The main event, however, took place at the ICG Complex in Noida (Delhi NCR), where Director General of the Indian Coast Guard, Paramesh Sivamani, addressed over 1,000 attendees, said a statement from the ICG here. During his address, Director General Sivamani emphasised the vital role of yoga in enhancing mental clarity, stress management, and physical resilience—qualities that are essential for ICG personnel working in high-pressure maritime environments. "The practice of yoga is integral to maintaining the physical and mental strength required for the demanding maritime duties our personnel undertake," said Director General Sivamani. "By adopting yoga in our daily routines, we aim to enhance the well-being of our teams, fostering both individual and collective strength." The yoga session was led by renowned instructor Vandana Gupta, along with a team of six expert yoga instructors. Together, they guided participants through a range of asanas, pranayama, and meditation practices designed to cater to both beginners and experienced practitioners. Special attention was given to creating routines that can seamlessly integrate into the hectic schedules of ICG personnel, the statement added.

Changes in engineering admission rules announced, institutional admissions to follow merit

Additionally, institutional-level admissions will only take place after all four CAP rounds and be strictly based on merit. For the first time, students can also apply for institutional admission through the CET Cell portal if a college refuses their application. Vinod Mohitkar, director of the directorate of technical education, provided detailed information about these updated rules. He clarified that these changes would apply not just to engineering but also to all unaided private professional courses across Maharashtra.

Assam gas blowout: ONGC brings in experts from USA to plug leakage
Guwahati, June 19 (UNI) A team of experts from the USA will arrive in Assam's Sivsagar on Friday to plug the leakage of gas at the ONGC's oil well. An ONGC spokesperson said the team is likely to arrive in Friday evening and put in efforts to plug the leakage, which have led to temporary displacement of hundreds of families in Barichuk Vatipara village under Sivsagar district. He said the team has specialised expertise in controlling the gas blowout. The leakage happened at well no RDS 147 A at Barichuk Vatipara in Sivsagar district on June 12 and despite best the efforts of ONGC officials, the leakage is still continuing. "Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) continues to make concerted efforts to control the gas discharge from Well RDS 147A in Assam. Multiple junk shot operations using different combinations of materials and pressure ranges have been undertaken," the spokesperson said. ONGC has initiated the development of an alternate route to facilitate safe and efficient movement in and out of the well site. Further, bunk houses and non-essential equipment are also being removed from the vicinity. He said water blanketing operations are being maintained round-the-clock as a key safety measure. Preparations for the next phase of well control, including dynamic well killing strategies, are progressing steadily, he added. "Ambient air quality monitoring in and around the well site is being conducted continuously. All parameters, including Particulate Matter (PM) levels and gas concentration, remain well within permissible limits," he said adding that the PSU has been coordinating with experts both in the country and outside to end the crisis. Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently visited the leakage spot and asked ONGC to take steps to contain the crisis at the earliest. He has also written to Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri seeking his intervention to end the crisis. The Chief Minister also visited more than 300 families who have been evacuated from the affected villages at the relief camps and announced financial assistance of Rs. 25000 to each of the affected families as immediate relief.
