JNTU-H signs MoU with 2 German varsities on dual degree programmes

Hyderabad: Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTUH) has established a significant academic partnership with two German institutions: the Knowledge Foundation at Reutlingen University and the University of Kassel. The MoU was signed between the senior officials of the JNTU-H and the German Universities on Thursday. The MoU aims to launch an innovative International Integrated Bachelor's and Master's Program, offering students a truly global academic experience. The program is designed to provide students with a dual qualification — a Bachelor's degree from JNTUH and a Master's degree from a partner German university. With academic components in both India and Germany, this initiative promotes global exposure, cross-cultural learning, and access to high-quality research and educational resources. The collaboration between KF Reutlingen University and JNTUH enables students to pursue a 5.5-year Integrated International Bachelor's and Master's program in Professional Software Engineering. Students will spend one semester at JNTUH, followed by three semesters at KF Reutlingen. This partnership promotes cultural exchange, global competencies, and academic excellence. Similarly, in the case of the University of Kassel Collaboration, the University of Kassel will expand its existing double-degree Master of Science program titled 'Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency – Management, Engineering, and Application (REMENA)' in partnership with JNTUH. This strengthens expertise in energy systems and sustainability. The MoU was officially signed by JNTUH, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. T. Kishen Kumar Reddy, and Daniel Geigis, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), KF Reutlingen University, Germany; Prof. Dr. SC. Techn. Dirk Dahlhaus, Head of ECE Program, University of Kassel, Germany; Raj Vangapandu, President, German Varsity, and Dr. N. Bangararaju, CEO, Indo-Euro Synchronization, India.

New Construction Partner Announced For Scott Base Redevelopment

Antarctica New Zealand is pleased to announce LT McGuinness has been selected as the Early Contractor Engagement (ECE) contractor to assist with the design and delivery of the Scott Base Redevelopment. With over 70 years of construction experience, the New Zealand company has a proven track record for delivering some of the country's most complex and high-profile projects across both public and private sectors. Antarctica New Zealand Chief Executive Prof Jordy Hendrikx says the appointment is an important step forward for this legacy project. 'A technically challenging project like this provides an opportunity for all parties to bring their very best, and we've already had a high level of engagement with LT McGuinness on preliminary discussions. Supported by a growing workforce of long-term, permanent staff, their experienced team has the highly technical capability and practical approach required. 'On top of that, being a third-generation family construction company aligns with the culture of Scott Base and the history of our Antarctic programme.' The ECE phase is a critical part of the project lifecycle, where technical partners collaborate to understand the project's full requirements before detailed decisions are made. This ensures robust planning providing greater certainty around cost, the programme and identification of risk as the design progresses. LT McGuinness has engaged global infrastructure leader Parsons Corporation to provide technical assistance on the project. 'Parsons' polar operations experience spans programme and construction management, engineering and planning, and logistics. The company's key role in the redevelopment of McMurdo Station will provide us with a wealth of lessons learned from past projects,' Prof Hendrikx says. He adds that LT McGuinness's digital capability will be essential for this next phase of work. 'Projects of this complexity and scale require advanced digital tools and methodologies. LT McGuinness brings proven expertise in using digital delivery systems to enhance coordination across partners and ensure quality outcomes – critical in remote environments like Antarctica.' Antarctica New Zealand was very pleased with the number and quality of responses to the ECE Request for Proposal, Prof Hendrikx says. 'We're grateful six top construction companies from around New Zealand devoted significant time and resources to bid for our work, and we saw this as a hugely positive endorsement of the direction the redevelopment is now headed.' The announcement marks another milestone for the project. In May, the new Scott Base Redevelopment Masterplan approach was approved, and the team is working towards submitting a Detailed Business Case to Cabinet in mid-2026. The masterplan proposes a three-stage redevelopment of Scott Base over the next 20-50 years, starting with the oldest and most dilapidated facilities. As part of Stage 1, a new Base Services building will be constructed for living and accommodation, with the Hillary Field Centre refurbished for science activity. Critical plant and services will be replaced or upgraded, along with the replacement of the Ross Island Wind Energy system to help power Scott Base and McMurdo Station. Stage 1 is due for completion by 2030 ensuring a functional and fit-for-purpose base. Concept design was completed in March 2025, and the team is now in the second design phase (Preliminary Design).

Modernising Early Childhood Education Funding

Associate Minister for Education Associate Education Minister David Seymour has today announced an Early Childhood Education (ECE) Funding Review to ensure the funding system is simple, fair, and gets value for money. Mr Seymour has established an ECE Funding Review Ministerial Advisory Group (MAG), chaired by Linda Meade to carry out this review. It will report on it's findings this time next year. 'No money is being taken away and any findings by the MAG will be at least financially neutral,' Mr Seymour says. 'ECE funding should be used effectively to keep costs for families down. Vote Education spends approximately $2.7 billion on ECE. We need to make sure this funding is going as far as it can and prioritising the right things. 'The MAG members bring a range of early learning and business expertise which will be key to the review.' The group will be chaired by Linda Meade who has a mixture of economics and real experience in the sector. She is the perfect chair for this review. 'The ECE funding system should provide the best return on investment for taxpayers. This means providing families with accessible and affordable services which facilitate parents returning to the work force and give kids a great start in life,' Mr Seymour says. 'There is huge demand for ECEs from families across New Zealand, however numbers show supply isn't keeping up. That is why we are committed to making changes which will allow the industry to expand and provide more high-quality services for families and their children. 'The funding system is too complicated. It confuses families, providers struggle to forecast financial sustainability, and parents take time off work when they can't access care. 'We want to be certain that taxpayer money is being used effectively. For example, we don't know if the 'one size fits all' funding approach in ECE works for parents who don't have traditional working arrangements or consistent patterns of child attendance. These parents are often the most disadvantaged. 'The review will be wide ranging, though some things are excluded. The policy benefits of 20 Hours ECE will and FamilyBoost will be preserved. Please find the review terms of reference attached. 'The review will compliment other work we are doing in the ECE sector. Changes made by the ECE Sector Review to modernise and simplify ECE are also underway. By the end of next year ECE providers will also be governed by a regulatory system which ensures regulations are focused on what matters, child safety. 'In the meantime, recent amendments to the pay parity opt-in scheme aim to provide some cost relief to ECE services.'
