Every joint practice announced for 2025 training camp, including Patriots
NFL training camp is a little over a month away, and now, we have a full list of every scheduled joint practice for all 32 teams, including the New England Patriots.
There will be two joint practices for the Patriots this year. The first practice will take place on August 6 in Foxborough against the visiting Washington Commanders. On August 13, they will head on the road to Eagan to face the Minnesota Vikings.
These joint practices will give the Patriots a chance to go up against stellar competition before the regular season. The Commanders and Vikings were both playoff contenders last season, with Washington advancing all the way to the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Both teams will provide massive tests for the Patriots' defense. The Commanders have one of the great young quarterbacks in the league in Jayden Daniels, and the Vikings have one of the league's top receiving corps with the duo of Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.
The Patriots are officially slated to report to training camp on July 22, and the first actual training camp practice will be held on the grass fields behind Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, July 23.
Gates for the practices are slated to open at 9:15 a.m. ET with practice starting at approximately 10:15 a.m. ET.

Vikings Might Still Be in Play for Major QB Move
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Heading into the 2025 NFL season, the Minnesota Vikings will have a new era beginning under second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy. After taking McCarthy with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, it was obvious that he would be the quarterback of the future. It's a bit surprising that the future is coming now after the young signal caller missed all of his rookie season due to a knee injury, but the team is clearly comfortable with him. There are a lot of questions surrounding McCarthy this season, but he will have every opportunity to answer them. Head coach Kevin O'Connell of the Minnesota Vikings looks on prior to the start of the game against the Detroit Lions at U.S. Bank Stadium on October 20, 2024 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Photo byEarlier in the offseason, the Vikings opted to pass on options like Aaron Rodgers in favor of McCarthy. However, there has been continued buzz about the team potentially pursuing a backup upgrade over Sam Howell, who they traded for during the draft. Read more: Vikings QB JJ McCarthy Called Out in Brutally Honest Breakdown With that being said, Kirk Cousins is still floating around as a potential target for Minnesota. Max Dible of Heavy Sports believes that Cousins is the best possible candidate to be McCarthy's backup. He explained why in a recent column. "Cousins will turn 37 years old in August and isn't a longterm threat to McCarthy's job security, though he would likely serve as a far more reliable insurance policy to the 22-year-old starter than Howell ever could," Dible wrote. "All of that renders Cousins as the best possible candidate — of those currently on the market — to serve as QB2 behind McCarthy, which led to multiple ESPN reporters authoring trade pitches reuniting Cousins with the Vikings earlier this month." Of course, Cousins is very familiar with the Vikings' system. He played for the team from the 2018 season through the 2023 campaign. Last season, the 36-year-old quarterback played the majority of the year as the Atlanta Falcons' starting quarterback. By the end of the season, however, he had been replaced by rookie signal caller Michael Penix Jr. Read more: Lions Urged to Make Aggressive Move for 4-Time Pro Bowl Defender He played in 14 games with the Falcons, completing 66.9 percent of his pass attempts for 3,508 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. While the turnover numbers are concerning, Cousins would not be acquired to be the starter in Minnesota. That role would still belong to McCarthy. Instead, Cousins would be brought in to be a quality backup in case he's needed and he would also be able to serve as a veteran mentor to McCarthy. Both of those roles would be equally as valuable for the Vikings and it's an option worth considering. For more Minnesota Vikings and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

Patriots' Stefon Diggs $63.5M Deal Named One of NFL's Riskiest Offseason Moves
Patriots' Stefon Diggs $63.5M Deal Named One of NFL's Riskiest Offseason Moves originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Making splash signings and bringing in seasoned vets was a cornerstone of the New England Patriots' early offseason strategy this year. Under new leadership, the Patriots roster has been transformed from one of the NFL's worst to one of the league's best. Advertisement However, that transformation has not come without criticism, at least for one free agent signing that is now being deemed as one of the NFL's "riskiest" this year. According to Kristopher Knox at Bleach Report, New England's decision to bring in Stefon Diggs as their No. 1 receiver on a three-year, $63.5 million deal, is "questionable" to say the least. "If Diggs cannot regain his Pro Bowl form, he could become a pricey bust for the Patriots," Knox said. "New England isn't expected to be playoff-relevant in 2025—which may be why it needed to spend so lavishly to attract an aging, injured receiver. New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs (8) has the ball sail past his grip during minicamp at Gillette Canha-Imagn Images Diggs, at 31-years-old, is returning from a torn ACL and is now about 10 months into his recovery. The star receiver fully participated in OTAs and mandatory minicamp, but Knox questions is even questioning his ability pre-injury. Advertisement "Diggs' production tapered a bit at the end of the 2023 season, and he looked a lot more like a No. 2 receiver with the Houston Texans in 2024 before the ACL tear," Knox said. Knox did have one silver lining for Patriots fans who may be frustrated to hear concerns over the Diggs signing: second-year quarterback Drake Maye needs as much help as he can get early in his career. Having a veteran receiver could be very beneficial to Maye, even if Diggs' production is not as good as years past. Patriots' All-Pro Brenden Schooler Labeled One of NFL's Top Special Teams Players
Patriots' All-Pro Brenden Schooler Labeled One of NFL's Top Special Teams Players originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New England Patriots struggled defensively for much of last season, but their special teams units actually played pretty well. That is in part because of safety Brenden Schooler, who showed out as a gunner on punt coverage. Advertisement Schooler was recognized at the end of last season with a Pro Bowl nod and first-team All-Pro status. The 28-year-old out of Texas went undrafted in 2022, but made enough of a mark on the Patriots to land a spot on the 53-man roster ever since. ESPN's Bill Barnwell is recognizing Schooler as the best gunner in the NFL, which is no surprise after seeing his accolades. "The 28-year-old was unblockable at times on punt duties last season," Barnwell said. "He played a significant role in helping the Patriots upset the Bengals in the opener with his coverage work. He's also an excellent blocker when called upon to do so." Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Derius Davis (12) returns the ball against New England Patriots safety Brenden Schooler (41) in the first quarter at Gillette Butler II-Imagn Images Schooler's ability to impact the game on defense was shown in a Week 18 win over the Buffalo Bills, where he registered his only two career sacks, placing him fourth overall on a team that struggled to find sacks last season. Advertisement Barnwell heaped praise on the safety/gunner, who helped the Patriots become one of the best punt coverage units in the league last season, after a horrible 2023 campaign that ended in Bill Belichick's firing. "Schooler is one of the few Patriots to come out of 2024 looking like he would have fit in during New England's dynasty," Barnwell said. Schooler has a chance to build on his impressive season last year with what should be an improved roster across the board.
