During a pre-fight press conference ahead of his UFC 317 clash with Oliveira, Topuria declared he would be interested in a potential welterweight title shot against Islam Makhachev.
Topuria told media members in attendance, 'If Islam becomes the welterweight world champion, for sure I'm going to push for that shot also.'
While he has teased a potential run at welterweight in the past, this time he has verbally confirmed he wants to challenge for a championship belt in a third division, a feat that has never been accomplished in UFC history.

At the top of his mind, the main goal is to secure that coveted fight against Makhachev that has alluded him for so long. Topuria has previously accused Makhachev of avoiding a potential lightweight bout, branding him a coward and claiming that the Dagestani fighter is running from the challenge.
'If he wins the title, and I win the title in the lightweight division, maybe I move up or he comes down to the lightweight division and we have the fight that everyone wants to see,' Topuria clarified further.
Topuria also expressed his frustration at the fact that he is not currently lined up with Makhachev, and must face Oliveira instead, saying, 'To be honest, I wanted to face [Makhachev] because he was the guy who was dominating everyone in that weight division. But at the end of the day, I can't control what they do.'
Despite his words about Makhachev, Topuria notes that he must remained focused on his upcoming fight with Oliveira.

'Every fight is a huge challenge,' Topuria said regarding the difficulty of fighting Oliveira compared to Makhachev. 'There are no easy fights when you get on this level.'

FC Barcelona Star's Registration Deleted By La Liga
La Liga had to delete the registration of new FC Barcelona star Joan Garcia after mistakenly ... More including him in the Catalans' first team squad on Friday afternoon, a few hours after the goalkeeper signed his contract at the Joan Gamper CT. La Liga had to delete the registration of new FC Barcelona star Joan Garcia after mistakenly including him in the Catalans' first team squad on Friday afternoon, a few hours after the goalkeeper signed his contract at the Joan Gamper CT. Garcia became Barca's first port of call in the summer transfer window thanks to his breakout 2024/2025 season. It was a campaign in which the Blaugrana became treble champions of Spain, yet ended up seeking a new shotstopper thanks to leaking seven goals in the Champions League semifinals to Inter Milan which denied it the chance to get to the decider for the first time since 2015. It was important to pounce on the opportunity to sign Garcia while his release clause was still at a reasonable €25 million, and that value would have only risen in the near future had he made his expected Spain debut under Luis de la Fuente. Garcia's representatives deposited the required funds on Friday last week, ahead of the 24-year-old's signing being officially announced by Barca and him then penning a six-year contract at the Joan Gamper CT. "I'm very happy, I really wanted this day to come and it has finally arrived," Garcia said. 'My goal is to continue growing as a goalkeeper and win a lot, achieve very nice things with the team, that's why I have come.' 'It is a very exciting project, with a great team and very young players, whom I already know. I really want to start and be with them,' he added. Yet eagle-eyed outlets such as Mundo Deportivo spotted that Garcia was immediately uploaded to Hansi Flick's squad in error. The mistake was quickly rectified and Garcia only appeared there for a few minutes, but he was then swiftly deleted. While some clubs such as Real Madrid can have new signings like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen uploaded to its squad on the La Liga website and registered immediately, it's not as straightforward at Barca where for the past few summers President Joan Laporta and Deco have had to do economic gymnastics to get new signings cleared to lace their boots up while the club stays on the right side of Financial Fair Play (FFP). FC Barcelona will continue trying to make new signings Despite this predicament, FC Barcelona will continue trying to make new signings and has reportedly agreed terms with Nico Williams. It now remains to be see how and when Laporta and Co can raise the Euro 2024's $66.8 million (€58 million) release clause.

Martin Zubimendi lands in London to seal Arsenal switch
Arsenal are on course to finally complete the transfer signing of Martin Zubimendi in the coming days. The midfielder had agreed a deal with Gunners last month, but late interest from Real Madrid changed the situation, as Zubimendi kept his options open a move to the Spanish capital. Advertisement Despite constant reports from the UK since late January, claiming Mikel Arteta had wrapped up a deal for his fellow Basque, there were also consistent string of reports in Spain stating Los Blancos were still interested in the 26-year-old La Roja international. Why Zubimendi chose Arsenal over Real Madrid? Fans from both sides will argue this one but there appears to be several factors at play. Arsnal's interest has been established for longer with Arteta and Andrea Berta both reportedly speaking to Zubimendi to outline his place in their plans. Finances are also important, from both La Real and Arsenal's perspectives, with the Premier League side willing to pay more than his €60m release clause in order to be able to do so in instalments, and that tipped the balance. Advertisement A last minute push to be reunited with Xabi Alonso fell short amid rumours of Florentino Perez blocking an offer as he believes Real Madrid are well stocked in midfield. Who will Zubimendi replace at Arsenal? If Real Madrid's midfield is viewed as full by Perez, Arsenal are short on numbers, with Arteta losing two experienced figures. Jorginho has already completed a free transfer move to Flamengo in time for the FIFA Club World Cup and Thomas Partey will leave when his contract expires at the end of June. Zubimendi's arrival could be pushed back to July 1, to keep in line with financial rules, and he is expected to play as a deep-lying No.6 behind Declan Rice and former teammates Martin Odegaard and Mikel Merino.

(Photo by Ed Mulholland/Zuffa LLC) Jamahal Hill (12-3-0-1) had a 5-0 record when he appeared on a Dana White Contender Series card in July 2019. He won that fight against Alexander Poppeck by TKO in the third round. The victory earned him a UFC contract. Hill made his official UFC debut in January 2020, winning a decision over Darko Stosic on the main card of an ESPN+ event at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina. He then faced Klidson Abreu in May 2020. He initially won that bout by first-round TKO, but the result was later overturned to a no-contest because Hill tested positive for marijuana He followed that fight with a December 2020 TKO over former interim light heavyweight title challenger Ovince Saint Preux. Hill's unbeaten streak ended in his next trip to the Octagon, when Paul Craig ended their June 2021 fight in under two minutes by TKO. Hill bounced back from that loss by rattling off three straight 'Performance of the Night' bonus-winning knockouts. That run earned him a shot at then-champion Glover Teixeira. Hill put on a striking clinic in that fight, battering Teixeira over five rounds to earn a one-sided decision win and the UFC 205-pound crown. That fight headlined UFC 283 in January 2023. Misfortune ended Hill's title reign. In July 2023, he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during a UFC fighter basketball game. He relinquished the title and underwent surgery to repair the injury. Hill returned at UFC 300 in a matchup against UFC light heavyweight champ Alex Pereira. Pereira ended that fight via knockout at the 3:14 mark of the first round. Hill returned to the Octagon at UFC 311 when he faced former champ Jiri Prochazka on the main card. Prochazka ended that bout via TKO at 3:01 of Round 3. Hill, the No. 4 ranked UFC light heavyweight, has seven wins by knockout and five decision victories. His three losses have come via knockout. (Photo by Ed Mulholland/Zuffa LLC) Khalil Rountree Jr. (13-6-0-1) joined the UFC in July 2016 when a loss to Andrew Sanchez in the season finale of The Ultimate Fighter dropped him to 4-1 as a pro. A submission loss to Tyson Pedro followed Rountree's defeat to Sanchez. However, Rountree went 3-0-0-1 after that setback, scoring three knockout wins in his victories. A knockout loss to Johnny Walker, who Rountree was favored to beat, ended his unbeaten streak. A decision victory over Eryk Anders in April 2019 got Rountree back in the win column, but a TKO loss to Ion Cutelaba and a decision setback against Marcin Prachnio followed. In September 2021, the UFC matchmakers booked Rountree against Modestas Bukauskas. He won that scrap via TKO. That win was the first of five consecutive victories for Rountree. Rountree was scheduled to face former UFC light heavyweight champ Jamahal Hill in June, but a self-reported drug test failure knocked him from that card. The Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended Rountree 4.5 months for that drug test failure. When Rountree returned to action it was at UFC 307 in the main event of the pay-per-view card opposite then-UFC 205-pound champion Alex Pereira. Pereira battered Rountree before ending the fight via TKO in the fourth round. Rountree has nine knockout wins and four decision victories. His losses have come by knockout (three), submission (one) and decision (two). He is the No. 7 ranked competitor in the UFC's 205-pound weight class. We will have full fight card results, reactions and highlights for the UFC Baku fight card on fight night.
