Tia Carrere Joins Daisy Ridley & Alden Ehrenreich In Rom-Com ‘The Last Resort'

EXCLUSIVE: Tia Carrere (upcoming Lilo & Stitch) has been tapped for a role alongside Daisy Ridley and Alden Ehrenreich in The Last Resort, the new Philippines-set romantic comedy from Miss Congeniality helmer Donald Petrie.
Carrere will play Reyna, a boss lady of the highest order, who owns a number of resorts. Production kicks off this month, with Asia Pacific Films producing and financing.

Daisy Ridley & Alden Ehrenreich Making A Date For Philippines-Set Rom-Com 'The Last Resort'
Written by Karen McCullah, the veteran rom-com scribe known for her work on titles like Legally Blonde, The Last Resort follows Brooke (Ridley), who is determined to prove herself worthy of running her father's hotel empire. When Brooke travels to the Philippines to scout a new resort location, she meets Ben (Ehrenreich), a charming expatriate pilot who helps her discover the beauty of the country — and a newfound sense of freedom. As love and duty collide, Brooke must choose between the life she's built and the one she's only just begun to love.
Ernesto (Bong) Sta. Maria. Jr. (Rosario), and Raja Collins (True Memoirs of an International Assassin, The Wrath of Becky) are producing the film, with Manuel V. Pangilinan exec producing. Simon Heo, Akshay Mehta and Rick Dugdale are co-producers, and CAA Media Finance is shopping worldwide rights.
A Filipina-American actress and singer with over 100 screen credits to her name, Carrere is coming off a role opposite Jo Koy in his DreamWorks comedy Easter Sunday. Next up, she'll be seen starring in the live-action Lilo & Stitch, after taking on a different role in the original 2002 animated film and the Disney series that followed. Pic is scheduled to hit theaters on May 23.
Carrere is represented by Innovative Artists and Strand Entertainment.

Coming in at No. 2 is 28 Years Later with $30 million, followed by Elio at No 3 with $21 million, Lilo & Stitch at No. 4 with $9.7 million and Mission: Impossible -- The Final Reckoning at No. 5 with $6.7 million. Rounding out the top tier are Materialists at No. 6 with $5.8 million, Ballerina at No. 7 with $4.5 million, Karate Kid: Legends at No. 8 with $2.4 million, Final Destinations: Bloodlines at No. 9 with $1.9 million and Kuberaa at No. 10 with $1.8 million.

Jon Bernthal to play Punisher again in next 'Spider-Man' adventure

File Photo by Jim Ruymen/UPI | License Photo June 21 (UPI) -- Jon Bernthal has signed on to play the Punisher again in the next Spider-Man movie. Variety, Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter reported the casting news Friday. The film is set to go into production this summer. Bernthal has played the Marvel comic-book vigilante Frank Castle/the Punisher in his own eponymous TV show, as well as the related shows Daredevil and Daredevil: Born Again. In addition to appearing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day opposite Tom Holland as the titular web-slinger, Bernthal will also play the Punisher in an as-yet-untitled special on Disney+ Both projects are set for release in 2026. Bernthal was also recently seen in The Accountant 2 and The Amateur.
