'Rollercoaster sums up Nisbet's time at Pittodrie'
Forget the new series of Race Across The World, the race for third in the Scottish Premiership should really have the TV companies talking.High-flying Hibs were put in their place by Jimmy Thelin's Aberdeen as we went level on points with the Edinburgh side. Now three points separate three teams. The game was a 'must win' for ourselves. You could sense the anticipation and atmosphere as you walked down Merkland Road and through the turnstiles. Despite their unbeaten run, I was surprised Hibs played the way they did. A negative approach to look for a point. We were more adventurous albeit again guilty of overcomplicating things in the final third.Like the early months of this rollercoaster season, Thelin's tactical nous and use of the bench came to the rescue with those being called upon having far more effect and directness.Rollercoaster also perfectly sums up Kevin Nisbet's time at Pittodrie. Missing gilt-edged chances then producing a moment of magic that those listening to Open All Mics will have heard how wild it sent Willie Miller. Those inside Pittodrie went equally as wild. Credit the defence who held firm for another clean sheet.Five more cup finals to go. We keep believing.Glen Schreuder can be found at Red Tinted Glasses, external

Nicolas Kuhn a Newcastle United transfer 'option' as Celtic winger surges up shortlist amid plunging £15m price
The Hoops are facing a big decision on the wide man this summer Celtic winger Nicolas Kuhn is reportedly an "option" for Newcastle United this summer with interest from RB Leipzig cooling. The German winger finished the campaign with an impressive 21 goals and 15 assists in 51 matches in all competitions despite struggling to show top form in the second half of the campaign. But the figures have reportedly caught the eye of the Magpies' scouting team with the Newcastle Chronicle stating they took "a long hard look at Celtic star throughout the winter months" during his Scottish Premiership outings. It is claimed that the Hoops have placed a £15million price tag on the forward going into the summer, with Eddie Howe's men set to "assess" their options. Newcastle had been chasing Nottingham Forest's Anthony Elanga - but a reported £60million asking price has seen the Champions League bound side put off the signing. Kuhn could "yet be an option" with his lower valuation - and a path could be clear with Bundesliga outfit Leipzig reportedly toning down their interest having failed to appoint Marco Rose's permanent successor so far this summer. And with a £15million price tag floated, former Celtic hero Chris Sutton reckons the Parkhead powerbrokers may struggle to even land that fee for Kuhn. Writing in his Record Sport column, he said: 'I have my doubts Celtic would get £15m for the German this summer, for a start. He struggled at first in Scotland as he struggled having lost weight with those dental problems. 'He was sensational in the first half of the season and looked a certainty to clean up the player of the year awards. 'Yet he did go off the boil a bit following the Bayern Munich game and it does pose questions about his consistency. 'Are teams going to cough up big money on the back of a spectacular six months? They might do, but I'm not so sure. Newcastle United were credited with interest back in January but I can't see him shifting the likes of Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon. 'It just seems like the wrong time to be even considering selling, though. I think "Celtic will struggle to get top dollar and yet I believe he will be worth more down the line. 'Kuhn isn't ready for me. Sometimes you get the feeling a player has reached the natural stage where the next step is inevitable.' Hibs boss David Gray has addressed his team's chances of retaining cult hero Rocky Bushiri as he prepares to welcome half a squad of international players back to East Mains for pre-season training. And the Easter Road gaffer has outlined the club's search for a striker following the departures of Dylan Vente, Mykola Kuharevich and Dwight Gayle. Bushiri is effectively a free agent after allowing his contract to expire at the end of the campaign. But Hibs have kept talks with the Democratic Republic of Congo international going over the summer – and appear to be closer to agreement on a new deal for the centre-half, a huge figure in last season's spectacular turnaround in fortunes. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Gray, asked yesterday if he expects to see Bushiri report for pre-season as scheduled this Friday, said: 'Positive conversations with Rocky. He's another one that had a fantastic season. 'He'll be another one that's enjoying a little bit of a rest just now because his season, as you just touched on, was prolonged. He went away with his national team, did well there. 'I'm not sure where he is right now in the world! He'll be resting somewhere because the expectation is all the international players get slightly longer.' Will Easter Road club bring in more than one striker? The return of Bushiri is seen as crucial by Gray, who has placed great store on keeping his squad together after they climbed from the relegation zone to clinch third place in the Scottish Premiership. At the other end of the park, meanwhile, Hibs are on the hunt for at least one striker – for starters. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Vente's £1 million-plus move to SC Heerenveen follows Gayle's retirement and the move by Kuharevich, who impressed Gray during an injury-affected second loan stint with Hibs last season, to Slovan Bratislava. As things stand, Hibs have newly-capped Scotland striker Kieron Bowie, Socceroos star Martin Boyle and – if fit – Elie Youan as forward options. Asked if the departure of Vente merely accentuated the need to recruit another striker, Gray said: 'Yeah, we're still working hard. It does obviously show that this is an area of the pitch we need to bring bodies in. 'But it's not just a body you want. You want someone who's going to add to the group and strengthen and compensate for other areas in which we maybe not got. 'So, you look at what we've already still got in the building. You've got Kieron Bowie. Physically, he's going to really benefit from a real good pre-season. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'Great to see him get his international call-up as well, which will do him the world of good confidence-wise as well. We know how effective he was last season. Having him here for the start of the season is brilliant. 'It's now about adding to the squad and getting that strength in depth. And it shows how valuable that was for us last season, Gayle coming off the bench and having a massive impact on the amount of games he played. So, we are looking to make sure we've got that strength in depth. 'I think it's just the position, when you look at that. I think obviously Gayle has moved on. He's retired. 'I should have mentioned how well he'd done for us last season. Not just on the pitch, off the pitch stuff with him as well. He was fantastic for the group. I know I spoke a lot about that last season. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'So, as I've already touched on, how good the group is and how strong it was last season. That's something we always want to try and protect and make sure we do bring the right type of people in.' Asked if he'd be looking for more than one centre forward in the summer window, Gray said: 'I think it's all about looking. You want to get one in the door first to see what that looks like. 'We've all got targets in different areas and what they're going to bring to the table, and I think it's a case of managing that whole situation. But right now, you need to get the first one in and see what that looks like - and then adjust from there accordingly. 'Clearly, we had players that played a lot of games last season, the loan players. You had Myko and Nectar Triantis, who both played a lot of games. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'These are positions that we're going to need to fill. We know that. We are working hard to do it. 'And like I said last season, it's not just a case of bringing in a number. We need to make sure we strengthen the group. We always want to try and improve all the time and make sure we bring the right type of people to the club.' Club owners continuing to back gaffer in transfer market Insisting the club turning a profit on Vente shouldn't impact his activity in the market, Gray said: 'I think the budget has been set for a long time now. And one thing I've always said is the support and the backing for the Gordon family has always been there - and will continue to be there. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'It's been fantastic from that point of view. And the hard work and everything that's going on with that is just constantly trying to support the club and trying to improve the club. 'So, that's not really my side of the job. It's about making sure I get results and performances. But the backing is always there and will continue to be.'

Ally McCoist makes Evan Ferguson Celtic transfer admission
The Irish striker is currently out of favour at Brighton and Hove Albion after a less-than-successful loan spell at West Ham United last season. Ferguson made a noticeable impact in the 2022/23 season, netting 10 goals in 25 matches. Read more: However, his future remains uncertain, with several pundits suggesting a potential move to Celtic. McCoist, a former professional footballer and manager, expressed his concern about this prospect. He said [Scottish Sun]: "I'm a fan. "I want him to get fit. "I really like Evan Ferguson, and I really want him to get fit and stay fit. "He can finish. "Out of all the younger ones coming through, I thought Evan Ferguson was the one to watch. "Obviously, he's got one or two injuries going on that have held him back a bit, but if he keeps himself fit, he will score goals anywhere. "The unfortunate thing for my mob [Rangers] is, he could come in and hurt us. "Definitely. "It wouldn't surprise me at all. "I'm a big fan." Shay Given, who spent time at Celtic as a teenager, also believes Ferguson would be a good fit for the Scottish Premiership champions. He said: "Evan just needs to find a home, if I'm being honest. "Be it here [at Celtic] or somewhere else. "He needs someone to say, 'You're my player.' "He went to West Ham for Graham Potter and you thought that was the perfect fit because Graham had him at Brighton. "But then he didn't play so much at West Ham either. "Michail Antonio and someone else was injured, yet they played Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus - not Ferguson. "What happens next for Evan?" Given went on to express his belief in the young striker's potential, suggesting he needs to be the focal point of a team. He said: "I just think he needs to go, be it a loan for a season or some club buys him, and you build the team around him. "I think he's a top player, I really do. "I did some Malaysian TV recently with Bobby Zamora, and he goes into Brighton once a week and coaches the strikers. "Bobby said Evan was the best finisher at the club. "I just feel he's ready now to burst onto the scene for a full season with somebody. "For us, with Ireland, it would be great too." However, Given admitted he was unsure if Celtic could afford Ferguson, saying: "I don't know if the finances would be to buy him, but if you said for a loan for the season, it would be perfect."
