but who'll win the Cadden Brothers Derby at fan festival?

Hibs first teamers will get a chance to reconnect with supporters ahead of a potentially exciting season when they take part in the Ron Gordon Football Festival at East Mains tomorrow. And gaffer David Gray believes it represents an ideal opportunity to repay fans for keeping the faith during last season's most difficult moments. The bulk of Gray's squad – minus players who have been on international duty during a busy summer – reported back to Hibernian Training Centre this morning for testing. They'll be back tomorrow for a light session. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad And then a number of star performers, including club captain Joe Newell, will take part in a revamped festival of football – as celebrity coaches for teams of fans competing in a round-robin seven-a-side tournament. Jordan Obita, Rudi Molotnikov and Jordan Smith are also lined up to coach, while a number of former Hibs greats – including former player and manager John 'Yogi' Hughes – will be taking charge of teams. There's a proper rivalry on the cards as the Cadden brothers, Chris and Nicky, go head-to-head as opposition managers. Scottish Cup-winning centre-half Darren McGregor, who has just led his under-18s to the CAS Elite League title, will also be running a team. Training in morning - before fun begins For Gray, who has spoken often about his pride at seeing the connection between supporters and team repaired and rebuilt last season, the chance to give something back tomorrow is important, the former skipper saying: 'Saturday we've got the Ron Gordon Challenge in the afternoon which will be good - because straight away the players will be back and interacting with the fans again, which is great. The supporters played a big part in what we achieved last season, so it's going to be great for so many of them to get up close to the players and keep building that bond. 'We'll train in the morning, before that a bit of an introduction session back onto the grass. Obviously nothing mental but a wee introduction to get back in there, and then players will be involved in the festival.' The festival is named in honour of late chairman Ron Gordon, who was passionate abut the Foundation's work in the local community. HCF chairman Steve Smith said: 'We are absolutely thrilled to have Joe and the others signing on this year for the Ron Gordon Football Festival. The work done by the entire team at the foundation affects the community in such a positive light, and whenever players – current and past – get involved it always allows us to elevate the event and draw more attention to the great work we do. I'm really excited for the day and can't wait to see how the players go with their coaching.' For more information on tomorrow's festival, click here.

SFA hit back at Rangers over John Brown ‘corrupt' row and ‘remind clubs of their responsibilities'
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THE Scottish FA have hit back in their row with Rangers over the controversy surrounding John Brown's comments made in a match against Hibs last season. Rangers released a strongly worded statement on Thursday after the club were handed a £3,000 fine by Scottish Football's governing body after being found in breach of the rules. Sign up for the Rangers newsletter Sign up 1 16/07/16 Motherwell v Rangers. Pix by Keith Campbell. John Brown Credit: Keith Campbell - The Sun Glasgow This was after the former Gers defender branded Scottish football 'corrupt' live on the club's TV channel when a goal by Nicolas Raskin was chalked off at Easter Road. Rangers were furious and raised concerns about "clarity" and "confidence" in the system. In response the Scottish FA said in a statement: "We note Rangers' response to the determination of a recent independent Judicial Panel Tribunal. "In the interests of accuracy, we wish to address some of the misleading comments contained therein: "The sanction imposed by an independent panel was entirely in keeping with the application of the rules. "The most recent and relevant example of a similar breach, the sanction imposed on Richard Foster of Motherwell FC for comments of a similar nature in the media, attests to that. "Furthermore, to address the comments regarding 'rationale behind differing outcomes', we wish to point to the fact that investigations were undertaken in previous cases outlined and that the Compliance Officers of the time saw fit to issue a censure by way of warning letter for potential breaches deemed insufficiently serious to be progressed to a Notice of Complaint. "This system of proportionality has been adopted since the inception of the Judicial Panel Protocol in 2011. "Indeed, such discretion was exercised last season when the Compliance Officer wrote to the club to warn of the future conduct of players following matters involving Vaclav Cerny, Dujon Sterling and Mohamed Diomande. "We also note that Rangers intend to contact the association to seek clarity on the Judicial Panel Protocol and its application. "The club is, in fact, already represented on the JPP Working Group. "We have requested written reasons from the panel chair involved in the tribunal and in the interests of transparency will publish in due course. "JPP Rule 38 was introduced in response to the referee strike of 2010, when match officials campaigned for greater protection after enduring sustained personal criticism from clubs and fans. Ahead of a new season, we remind clubs of their responsibilities in this regard." More to follow....

Hibs transfer news as club land over £1 million for fringe forward
Edinburgh side still in talks with Bushiri and Hoilett - and are searching for a new striker Sign up to our Hibs football newsletter Sign up Thank you for signing up! Hibs will pocket over £1 million for a fringe player who had fallen out of the first-team picture under gaffer David Gray, with Dutch club Heerenveen breaking the seven-figure barrier to land Dylan Vente. The centre forward, who cost the Easter Road club in excess of £500,000 when he was recruited by Lee Johnson in the summer of 2023, is expected to complete his move within the next 48 hours. The 26-year-old, now a full international for Suriname, was allowed to join PEC Zwolle on loan last season after Gray decided that the Dutchman didn't fit into his plans. Vente made the most of his opportunity to play in the Eredivisie, putting up impressive numbers and earning widespread praise for his performances. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The former Feyenoord prospect banged in 13 league goals, plus one in the cup, as Zwolle finished tenth in the table. That attracted the interest of Heerenveen, who finished just one place above PEC. Vente an early hit for Johnson AND Monty - but faded fast Vente, who joined Hibs from Dutch second-tier side Roda, was an early hit for Hibs, scoring on his debut in a famous Europa Conference League win over FC Luzern at Easter Road. Following Johnson's dismissal, the attacker then banged in three goals in Nick Montgomery's first three games as gaffer early in season 2023-24 – but only found the net three times over the next eight months as Hibs missed out on a top-six place on the final weekend before the Scottish Premiership split. The arrival of Scotland hopeful Kieron Bowie for a significant fee last summer forced Vente further down the pecking order as new gaffer Gray looked for a change of style at the top end of the team. Mykola Kuharevich also returned to Easter Road for another loan spell, while the acquisition of veteran free agent Dwight Gayle increased competition for places up front. With two years left on his contract at the time, Vente was keen to get game time elsewhere. Zwolle was an option that suited everyone, not least a Hibs football department keen to reduce overall numbers – while making 11 summer signings. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The impending sale of Vente underlines Gray's determination to change up his forward options ahead of the new season. Gayle's retirement, along with Kuharevich signing for Slovan Bratislava earlier this week, leaves Hibs short of bodies at the business end of the park. While a fully fit Bowie and a revitalised Martin Boyle, the latter tied down by a contract extension clause triggered just before the end of last season, represent an ideal first-choice pairing, Gray knows he needs multiple options – beyond Elie Youan – as he looks to compete on two fronts this season. He's still in the market for at least one more striker. Hibs remain in negotiations, meanwhile, with central defender Rocky Bushiri and attacking midfielder Junior Hoilett. Both are now free agents after their Easter Road contracts expired. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Bushiri has options in England and Europe – but has NOT definitely decided to leave Hibs. And veteran Canadian international Hoilett is still weighing up his options, with another season at Hibs considered a good option for a player trying to nail down a place in his country's World Cup squad. Sunderland are still talking with Nectar Triantis about his next step after the Australian midfielder's stand-out season with Hibs. Another loan is an option for the Premier League-bound Black Cats, who have put a £1 million price tag on any permanent move for the 22-year-old.
