X-ray on paper sheet: Politicos question facilities at medical college in UP's Sultanpur

Hindustan Times12-06-2025

LUCKNOW A video purportedly showing an X-ray image being printed on a paper sheet at the district hospital attached to the autonomous state medical college in Sultanpur went viral after political parties shared it on their social media handle.
Samajawadi Party chief and former CM Akhilesh Yadav and AAP leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh shared the video, raising questions over facilities at the government college. Yadav also criticised the state government.
The college authorities, however, said it was out of choice to save money and avoid using plastic film that is generally used to print an X-ray image.
Dr Salil K Srivastava, principal of the college, said: 'Printing the X-ray image on photo paper is by choice. We are doing it to avoid use of plastic films. This does not compromise treatment.'
He added, 'While a plastic film costs ₹50, the photo paper costs ₹2, and the result of imaging is the same. With the change of medium, we save a lot of money of the state as 350 X-rays are done every day on an average.'
Srivastava said in future, the image will be linked to the patient's ABHA ID and sent via WhatsApp.
Senior faculty at Lucknow's King George's Medical University Prof Santosh Kumar said, 'If the image is clear, it makes no difference if it is on paper. The better option is to send it via digital platform to avoid using paper too.'

CM Saini visits Vij , asks after his health

Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday visited the residence of energy minister Anil Vij in Ambala Cantonment, to inquire about his health and wished him a speedy recovery. Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini during his vistit to energy minister Anil Vij's residence in Ambala on Saturday. (Sourced) Vij, 71, has been advised rest by doctors due to a fracture in his left foot. Earlier, upon Saini's visit, he was welcomed by Vij's brothers Rajinder Vij and Kapil Vij, uncle Wing Commander (retired) SD Vij, other family members as well as a large number of BJP workers. Saini spent nearly 45 minutes at the minister's residence, discussing his injury and other issues, while also personally meeting Vij's nephews Gaurav Vij and Shubham Vij, sources said. Earlier in the day, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Barala also paid a visit to Vij's residence at Shastri Colony along NH-44. Vij, a seventh-time MLA, sustained the injury about a month ago, but despite that he continued to oversee developmental work in his constituency and chaired departmental meetings at the Chandigarh Secretariat and other locations. Even during the period, he spent seven continuous hours inspecting flood preparedness in Ambala Cantonment on June 12, issuing directives to officials from district administration, municipality, cantonment board, irrigation department, railways, highways and others. Although he took medication as per medical advice, the increasing pain prompted an X-ray on Friday, which revealed a fracture in the toe, following which doctors advised him to rest for a few days, a statement from the minister's office read. The chief minister's unscheduled visit while returning to Chandigarh from Yoga Day celebrations at Kurukshetra, gathers significance given the past sour relations between the two leaders. This was Saini's first personal meeting with Vij at Ambala, since he was served a party show-cause notice in February, for his utterances targeting the chief minister as well as against state unit chief Mohan Lal Badoli.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta leads International Yoga Day event along Yamuna Ghat

Written By Drishti Jain On the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta performed yoga with other participants at the Sonia Vihar Water Sports Club along the Yamuna Ghat early on Saturday. As part of 'Yoga With Yamuna,' children performed yoga in the middle of the river, while others kayaked bearing Indian flags. The event was among the 11 programmes being conducted across Delhi on the occasion. Speaking about her experience, the chief minister said, 'I get reminded of my duties whenever I see the Yamuna. In an attempt to keep the Yamuna clean throughout Delhi, we have removed almost 1,000 tonnes of water hyacinth from it with the help of drones (launched as a pilot project) with help of the water department.' Gupta added that there are plans to run cruises along the river. She also hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for 'giving Yoga Day to the world' and for giving periodic reminders to lead a healthy life. Minister of Tourism Kapil Mishra, who was present at the event, said it was the first official yoga programme held by the government after many years. Meanwhile, taking a dig at the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, MP Manoj Tiwari said, 'I fully trust the present ruling party. They will make Yamuna clean and healthy again.' Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht and Delhi chief secretary Dharmendra Kumar were also present. Before the yoga session began, PM Modi's speech from Visakhapatnam was telecast live on multiple screens at the venue. 'The whole world knows us today because of yoga,' said Balveer Singh Chauhan, 52, a resident of Soniya Vihar who performed yoga among the other participants. He said that doing yoga even for 15 minutes daily can keep your mind and soul calm. Dr Sangeeta Chaudhary, 52, who sat near Chauhan, said it was good to celebrate Yoga Day on such a large scale. 'Performing yoga should be a must for people who are above 40. I believe yoga camps should be held monthly,' she added.
