'My colleague gave her twins matching names, I laughed so hard I was sent to HR'

Daily Mirror20-05-2025

Choosing names for twins can be a tough decision. Some parents go for distinct names to avoid confusion, while others lean into the twin dynamic and opt for similar or 'matching' names. But one mum-to-be may have taken the matching concept a bit too far - sparking laughter at her workplace and even drawing in HR.
Sharing the story on Reddit, a co-worker explained that a colleague had recently returned to the office to introduce her newborn twin boys after a long struggle with infertility. While everyone was genuinely happy for her, her choice of baby names caught the team off guard.
'She brought the twins in and we asked what she had decided to name them,' the co-worker wrote. 'She said she had named them both Sean.'
Confused, the co-worker asked what she meant. The new mum clarified: 'One is spelled S-E-A-N and the other S-E-E-N. So, Sean and Seen.'
To make things even more perplexing, the co-worker added that the mother's surname is also Sean - meaning the babies are now named Sean Sean and Seen Sean.
When the co-worker pointed this out, the mum reportedly responded, 'Yes, like Tom Tom or Jay Jay,' suggesting she saw it as a cute or quirky naming choice.
The situation escalated when the co-worker laughed so hard at the name reveal that HR had to step in, reminding employees to maintain professionalism and sensitivity, particularly given the emotional journey the new mother had gone through to have her children.
The co-worker explained how without thinking, they told the woman: "That is the most idiotic thing I've heard and it's going to be so confusing." After the situation, they started receiving messages from others saying it wasn't their place to make that comment.
In an update, they shared how the husband came across their Reddit post and admitted it prompted them to change the names, especially after reading the comments. The person added: "They had a good chuckle and ended up agreeing with the replies the naming process wasn't ideal, and maybe the overwhelming process of having two newborns left them too tired to think straight
"Despite the fact they had already sent off the paperwork to the birth deaths and marriages office (the place you lodge births for in Australia), they called up the Brisbane office and the paperwork had only been provisionally processed, and they have used this time to reassess.

"They have withdrawn the paperwork (for Seen only) and will think of a new name, but they are keeping Sean Sean as they like it. I have also been reported to HR for making this Reddit post (not by the parents, they think it's hilarious) so well well, if it isn't the consequences of my actions.
"They also want everyone to know that 'calling her an idiot isn't the worst thing I've said to her this year, and while I'll definitely a a**hole, that's more of an in general thing than tied to this situation'." Describing their HR meeting as "underwhelming", they said the company asked them "to be more considerate of co-worker's feelings" and to "not put this meeting all over the internet".
Commenting on their post, one user said: "Sean isn't a stupid name, but Seen is. I don't care if you were rude. It's better for the mum to have the rude awakening before her children are born rather then after." Another user added: "My friend literally named her kid Beetle. So yeah. People are dumb."

Why a single photo of a Magnum ice cream has Aussies up in arms

A disappointed Aussie has questioned if his favourite ice cream has shrunk in size after he bought a Magnum from his local petrol station. The man placed his hand beside the ice cream to give Aussies a size reference. 'Is this a special servo size or is this just how big a magnum ice cream is now?' he captioned a photo of the sweet treat on Reddit. 'Haven't had a Magnum ice cream in ages. I swear these were three times bigger when I was a kid. It's about as big as a couple fingers now.' Aussies were quick to weigh in to the Magnum size debate. 'What used to be the mini became the regular a long time ago,' one person claimed. 'Absolutely not worth the purchase given the quality also dropped massively from when they were first released.' 'Oh old school magnum ego were the go-to ice cream,' a second agreed. 'The chocolate is much thinner now. I bought two at the footy the other night for $7 each and they were very underwhelming,' a third said. 'Wait, seriously? I stopped getting them years ago after one of the price hikes, but now they only sell the minis and call them regular ones? What a rort,' a fourth added. 'Kept the same overpriced tags and shrank,' another commenter agreed. It came as another upset Aussie claimed they only received 317g of peas in a 500g bag of McCain frozen baby peas they purchased at Woolworths. 'I've heard of shrinkflation, but really?' they captioned a photo of the peas on a scale. 'Guess I'm keeping receipts for longer from now on.' Aussies were divided over whether Woolworths or McCains, the manufacturer of the frozen peas, were at fault over the weight discrepancy. 'Don't Woolworths buy these products to sell to us? Maybe they should do a better job ensuring the quality of what they offer including that consumers are getting what they are paying for,' one person wrote. 'Somebody procures these things. There should be quality control at both levels, I'd be complaining to both.' But another defended Woolworths, writing: 'What do you expect, someone to weigh every single item that is on the shelf?!' 'It's on Woolies to ensure it's delivered within temperature and not tampered with and it's on Woolies to report customer complaints to the supplier/relevant food authorities,' a third person argued.

Woman fumes as 'entitled' neighbour demands she dig up her plants for odd reason

A woman has been left stunned after her 'entitled' neighbour demanded she dig up all her plants for an odd reason. She has gone online to see people's advice on the situation A woman has been left utterly astounded after her 'entitled' neighbour demanded she uproot all of her garden plants for a bizarre reason. She shared on Reddit how she had purchased a property last year and dedicated an entire year to refurbishing it, with the goal of moving in by this summer. Fortunately, she managed to stick to her timeline and settled into her new home last month, eager to put the finishing touches on her abode, including planting flowers in her front garden. But her horticultural efforts led to a surprising dispute with her neighbour, who took a strong dislike to the choice of blooms. ‌ On Red dit, she recounted: "Up until now, we've had, or thought we had, a good relationship with the neighbour on the side of our house whose driveway is next to our house. We even bought them a gift basket when we closed on the house. ‌ "Last week, we planted small compact hollies to create a tiny hedge in our front garden that is well within our own property line, not even the edge of the property line. "Karen and her husband decide to come out today to curse us out and name calling us (b****, witch, s****y neighbour, telling us to f*** ourselves, etc) for planting the hollies in our garden as it interferes with them opening their car door into our garden, walking well inside our garden to get in and out of their car." The disgruntled neighbours have complained that the plants are making their "lives miserable" and pose a "dangerous tripping hazard" that they have to contend with every day. She exclaimed: "I am beyond myself at how people like this exists, the entitlement and unreasonableness. Originally we wanted to add height to the garden when we first purchased it but Karen told us not to because they need to open their car door. "We decided to be nice neighbours to keep peace so we didn't. Now few months later we moved in, planted small compacta holly bushes around the garden, Karen said we are the worse neighbours ever and hope all our plants die. ‌ "Even went as far as threatening us, stating that we will be miserable living here - like seriously." Perplexed, the woman couldn't fathom why her 69 year old neighbour would take such offence at a bit of greenery - taking to Reddit to see if the fault lay with her. She continued: "She demands we remove all the bushes along the side of our garden because they need to step into our garden to open their car doors to get in and out. ‌ "Her screaming got so bad that even our nice neighbour from across the street came to defend us and try to deescalate the situation, calming her down. "Of course she yelled at him to leave and mind his own business because she's 'been living on the block for 30 years'." The majority of Reddit users were stunned by the tale, with some advising her to erect a fence and install cameras as a defence against her unhinged neighbours. One user advised in the comments: "With this information in mind I'd be building a fence, specifically to inconvenience the awful neighbours." One commenter suggested a mischievous defence, saying: "Cameras - likely they will poison the plants. Pink Flamingos lined up in the garden looking at them. Bonus points if you put glow-in-the-dark googly eyes on them." Another recommended a charming deterrent, proposing: "Time for a cute picket fence or landscape boulders on the property line."

The mystery behind a sign 'error' at one of Sydney's busiest stations is revealed

Transport for New South Wales has revealed the truth behind the quirky mystery of why the sign at one of its busiest stations appears to have a spelling error. At Sydney 's Central Station, commuters and visitors have noticed something about the sign reading 'Central' between platforms 20 and 21. The letter 'C' is noticeably smaller and appears in a different font compared to the rest of the word. This seemingly minor detail has sparked confusion, with many passengers assuming it was a design error or modern oversight. But an eagle-eyed Australian recently reignited the discussion by sharing a photo of the sign on Reddit, asking why the first letter looked so out of place. Now, for the first time, the transport department has revealed the reason behind the signage quirk, and it turns out to be entirely intentional. A spokesperson for Transport for NSW (TfNSW) told Daily Mail Australia on Friday that the sign is a heritage feature, which has remained in place for decades. 'The small 'C' visible in the suspended signs on platforms 16 to 23 at Central Station is a design feature of the heritage signs that have been in use since the 1960s.' The spokesperson explained there were two fonts used on original signs when they were installed, one of which was slightly larger. Rather than update or replace the signage, TfNSW made a conscious decision to preserve it in its original form. 'The Central Station signs were rolled out during one of the periodic upgrades of this huge and busy station in the middle of the last century and were handmade,' the spokesperson said. 'Our conservation work on Central is intended to take as light a touch as possible. 'Little things like this speak to the heritage of the country's second oldest train station.' Central Station officially opened in 1906, built on top of the Devonshire Street Cemetery. It is estimated that more than 250,000 people pass through the station daily, with it linked to all train lines, Sydney Metro and the Light Rail. In a recent online post, debate was sparked as to why the sign was different from the others. 'This has driven me mental for so many years! It's been like this for so long,' one frustrated Sydneysider said on the Reddit thread. 'This is frustrating to become aware of,' another wrote. A third said: 'I noticed this a few years ago. It upsets me to no end.'
