Guidance to students on financial aid at grievance redressal meet held in Madurai
A special grievance redressal camp for students was conducted under the Naan Mudhalvan – Kalloori Kanavu scheme at the District Collector office here on Thursday.
The camp aimed to support students with financial aid, academic guidance, and admission-related queries for their higher education.
During the meeting, students seeking financial support were assessed for eligibility under available government aid and scholarships. Students who were deemed ineligible for such options were guided to apply for bank loans through https://www.vidyalakshmi.co.in/Students/ portal.
Collector M.S. Sangeetha also instructed the bank officials present at the camp to collect academic and contact details for follow-up.
Counselling was offered to students preparing for supplementary examinations.
Ms. Sangeetha advised students not to lose hope and motivated them to work hard and succeed in the upcoming exams.
Students were asked to contact the helpdesk at 0452-2522995 or reach out via call or WhatsApp at 72006 47475 for immediate resolution of higher education-related queries.
As a dedicated higher education guidance control room had been established at the education department office at Tallakulam, students seeking in-person guidance were told to visit the office. The guidance control room would operate from June 5 to October 31 on all working days between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Additionally, assistance was provided to students regarding college admissions.
Officials from the Government Industrial Training Institute offered guidance tailored to the individual interests.
Interestingly, a 35-year-old woman aspiring to join a beautician course received support from officials of the Government ITI (Women).
The Government ITI (Women), Madurai, announced the commencement of admissions for the 2025 academic year and there would be no training fee for the courses and no age limit for applying to the courses.
Some of the perks of securing admission in the ITI would be that the selected candidates would be provided with free accommodation and meals, a cumulative stipend of ₹1,750, free uniforms, bicycles, textbooks, and bus travel, along with course completion certificates.
As immediate employment opportunities were assured upon course completion, candidates were urged to submit their applications through www.skilltraining.tn.gov.in or in person at the institute, the officials added.
The eligibility for applying was completion of class VII or X and candidates could opt for a variety of courses such as electronics, mechanics, medical electronics technician, computer operator and programming assistant, desk-top publishing operator, sewing technology and cosmetology.

Trichy: The district administration conducted a special counselling on Tuesday for students who passed Class XII exams to guide them on higher studies. One student was honoured for her achievement in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) exam during the day. Government scheme helps boy from Virudhunagar get admission to NIT Rourkela
Efforts of the Virudhunagar district administration in identifying the best-performing students and giving them focussed training has helped another government school student from an economically weaker background get admission into a premier national educational institution. M. Ajay Kumar, a student of Government Higher Secondary School, Ilupaiyur has benefited under the Naan Mudhalvan Scheme and has got admission for Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela. The son of a truck driver, Ajay Kumar, was identified for the programme by his school Headmistress, Parameswari. 'It was the Headmistress who encouraged me to set my goals higher. I only followed her advice,' said Ajay Kumar. He was motivated when the district Collector V.P. Jeyaseelan gave a pep talk to select students at one of the Coffee with Collector programmes, said Kumar. Expert guidance and support provided Kumar said that he was given coaching and reading materials for the JEE Mains. Eventually, he cleared the exam and got admitted into NIT-Rourkela. 'My teachers helped me to select the courses,' he added. All his educational expenses will be taken care of by the Tamil Nadu government. 'We selected the best-performing students under each reservation category, such as Scheduled Tribes and persons with disabilities, and provided them with focused online training, expert-guided application and choice filling support through our dedicated control room,' Mr. Jeyaseelan said. Out of the 230 students trained, around 30 have cleared the exams and are expected to get admissions from premier Central institutes such as the IITs and the Institute of Fashion Technology, the Collector added. Logeshwari Selvam, a student from Government higher Secondary School in Padanthal, who had received training through the Naan Mudhalvan scheme, also got admission for Aerospace Engineering in IIT Bombay.

Govt. arts and science colleges reopen for students of higher classes
Government arts and science colleges reopened on Monday for second and third year students. Some colleges opened for the first year students as well. At the government college in Perumbakkam, students were eager to start their new academic year. The college caters to around 35,000 students, mainly from modest families in the slum clearance board apartments. The co-education college has a total of 1,340 students in its nine departments. A college faculty said as much as 65% of the students were girls. Rupika Devi, a B Com CS 3rd year student said she was preparing for company secretaryship and hence chose the programme. She has been learning coding under the Naan Mudhalvan training programmes offered by the college. K. Saranya, a second year student of BA Tamil said, 'I am preparing to take the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission group 4 exam this year. Next year with better preparation I plan to appear for group 1 and 2 exam.' M. Jagajeevan travels from Neelakarai to the college. 'I change three buses to get to college. I leave home at 7 a.m.,' says the 2nd year BA Tamil student. The first generation learner wants to pursue an MA in Tamil and then complete B Ed to become a teacher. 'College begins at 9.30 a.m. but the locality is not served well by MTC buses. Ever since e-buses were launched students have been struggling to reach college on time,' explained a faculty. Our students come from Broadway, Tambaram and Guindy. If buses are late then students are delayed. There must be more buses,' he said. Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Arts and Science College had organised an elaborate programme to welcome the first year students. A faculty at the college said the aim was to help students to break ice and integrate. The college sprinkled the day with events including dance, karate, singing and games specifically for first year students.
