Best NMN supplements to boost NAD levels and support longevity, according to experts

Time of India13-06-2025

Longevity science is all the rage in 2025, with all kinds of complex technologies for how to stay young for longer and fight the negative effects of ageing, but some of the most effective tools to counteract ageing are naturally occurring compounds already found in the body that can be easily boosted through supplementation. The key to well-being lives inside the human body; it's just a matter of optimizing the existing systems to ensure their smooth function and our flourishing. Is it really that simple? One super supplement that has shown immense promise in the longevity sphere and which is quickly gaining support worldwide is Nicotinamide Mononucleotide, also known as NMN. NMN improves your cellular health and boosts the levels of NAD produced by the body, which creates a wide range of benefits to help users feel younger, healthier, have more energy, and optimise their body's natural rhythms. Here is everything you need to know about this powerful nucleotide and a list of the best NMN supplements to take to start feeling your best.
NMN and NAD: A Quick Science Lesson
NMN, or Nicotinamide Mononucleotide, is a naturally occurring molecule that boosts the body's levels of NAD, also known as Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. To put it plainly, NMN is a messenger molecule, encouraging NAD to work its special cellular magic. We can think of NAD as a fuel or a battery that helps the cells in the body recharge themselves and keep us functioning at our optimal capacities. In a certain way, NMN is a kind of encouraging manager, making sure that NAD does its best work in the cell to keep the body healthy, strong, and resilient. Like many functions in the body, however, NAD levels decline with age, which leads to a slew of age-related ailments and limitations, from energy issues to DNA damage to metabolic imbalance.
Given the ways that NAD levels start to lag with age, scientists and experts have begun to look into ways to keep the body's cellular powerhouses going strong in a safe and natural way, through supplementation. Promising studies suggest that NMN and the ways that it stimulates NAD production processes are at the heart of optimizing longevity science and helping to keep age-related decline at bay. Taking NMN supplements shows special promise with keeping individuals fit, healthy, and feeling their best, and medical experts from Mark Hyman to David Sinclair are touting NMN benefits for general well-being, vitality, and longevity.
Why NMN Supplements Are Better Than Taking NAD Directly
While one might assume that the most direct route to increasing NAD levels in the body would be by taking NAD directly, the scientific reality is that NMN supplements offer a far more effective approach to achieving this goal while enhancing overall well-being and health. NMN is readily absorbed by the human body, which enhances its stability and enables the body's systems to regulate NAD levels with greater precision. Serving as a precursor for Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide production, Nicotinamide Mononucleotide sets the stage for a more meaningful and beneficial metabolic process and cellular synthesis, while also mitigating the potential negative effects of elevated NAD levels. Opting for direct NAD intake would, in many respects, be akin to putting the cart before the horse. Utilising an NMN supplement provides the body with the opportunity to efficiently boost NAD levels through its natural metabolic pathways.
How to Choose the Best NMN Supplement for Your Body's Needs
There are a number of different considerations to take into account when choosing an NMN supplement. Safety and effectiveness is of the utmost importance in any kind of choice about what to take for your health, so finding a reputable brand with excellent quality and transparent manufacturing practices is essential. Third-party testing with reputable scientific sources and supplements that meet industry standards are excellent way to ensure that a given NMN supplement is going to be right for your needs. Additionally, doing research about a preferred method of supplementation, whether powders or capsules, and reading customer reviews, testimonials, and anecdotal reports, can be a good way to begin choosing a preferred NMN supplement.

The Reviews Are In: NMN Benefits
So what are the specific NMN benefits? Science and research are ongoing and extremely auspicious, and research around NMN is a new frontier in the world of longevity science. As research continues to blossom and support personal reports, there are various scientific studies as well as individuals' experiences for anecdotal reference. Users of NMN supplements have reported a wide-ranging buffet of benefits. The fact that they are shared across age, experience, and demographics, coupled with its support from preliminary or ongoing scientific investigations, signifies a notably optimistic outlook for NMN in the world of longevity and wellness innovation.
A selection of positive results attributed to taking NMN include:
More Energy and Increased Vitality
One of the most common benefits expressed among users of NMN supplements is an increase and improvement in energy and vitality. When you feed your cellular energy, your body's natural energy improves, reducing fatigue and elevating vital force in the body.
Muscle Health and Athletic Performance
One of the most pronounced and widely reported benefits of taking NMN is its ability to improve muscle health, muscle recovery, and physical performance in adults. Not only does it improve systems on the cellular level, but a recent study overseen by David Sinclair found that NAD-boosting molecules (read: NMN) helps to improve blood and nutrient supply to the muscles. Another study, in 2021, found that NMN renewed muscle strength and improved athletic performance (including grip strength, walking speed, and tests about moving from sitting to standing) in men over 65. Anecdotally, these outcomes have been shown in a wide range of individuals of all ages and experiences. NMN has huge potential to improve physical and athletic performance.
Sharper Cognitive Function
If you are getting a little lost in all this technical jargon, please don't beat yourself up. Your cognitive functioning for reading about the benefits of taking NMN might be improved by—you guessed it—taking NMN. Many researchers have found that NMN has an incredible potential to improve and preserve brain function due to its positive effect on neurovascular coupling, aka NVC. Scientists studying NMN, including Dr. David Sinclair, have found that the compound has a positive effect on maintaining memory and cognitive function.
Weight Loss and Metabolism Stabilisation
NMN is a naturally occurring key factor in metabolic function, so it stands to reason that NMN supplements can help optimise those metabolic processes. NMN can help to convert food into energy, manage fats and proteins, and stabilise blood sugar, which shows promise in weight management and broader metabolic health.
Hair Growth
As shown in a recent 2024 study, and in many reports by users, NMN can promote hair growth and the reversal of hair follicle atrophy and hair thinning. By lowering inflammatory factors that contribute to hair loss, NMN supplements can reverse hair loss and repopulate users' scalps with luscious, healthy locks.
Skin Elasticity and Smoothness
Sure, creams and moisturisers are a good start when it comes to skin health, but a lot of the issues that go into ageing skin happen on a level that's more than skin-deep. Being able to withstand UV rays and the general wear and tear of ageing, like wrinkles and fine lines, can come down to—you guessed it—cellular health. Studies suggest that the key to glowing skin could be found in the body's production of NAD, and anecdotal evidence from NMN users point to improvements in skin elasticity and skin smoothness as major noticeable effects.
Heart Health
An exciting study looked at NMN benefits in healthy middle-aged and older adults and found that it had a positive effect on their overall health, including on the health of their heart. This rigorous, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover trial found that NMN could have really beneficial effects on cardiovascular function and heart health, among other things. Doesn't that just warm your heart?
Insulin Regulation
Relevant to its ability to regulate and optimise metabolic function, NMN has been found to have a profound effect on helping the body manage blood sugar and reduce insulin resistance, a major problem associated with diabetes.

Common Questions and Considerations
Now that we've looked at the incredible benefits of taking NMN supplements and how it has the potential to change your life for the better, here are some frequently asked questions about NMN that will help you understand more about how it all works.
Side Effects and Safety
Many people ask, what are the side effects of taking NMN supplements? As with any supplement, side effects are an important consideration to take and must be taken seriously. The good news with NMN supplements is that studies show that NMN intake is extremely well tolerated by the body, with few concerning side effects. A recent 8-week study conducted among healthy, middle-aged Japanese men found that not only does NMN show promise in improving sleep and metabolism, but also that it is well-tolerated by the body, with no concerning side effects.
Higher doses, such as 1,200 mg or even up to 2,000 mg daily, have also been studied and are well-tolerated, according to research led by Professor David Sinclair of Harvard Medical School.
Daily Dosage: How Much NMN Should You Take?
As with any supplement, it's important to listen to your own body to determine the best dosage. Bodies process molecules and compounds in different ways and have different needs. The research points to the fact that 600mg to 1200 mg is a safe and effective starting point for NMN dosage, and esteemed doctor and longevity scientist David Sinclair recommends a daily 1000 mg dose to really reap the rewards of this wonder molecule.
While it is important to do what feels right and trust your own biorhythms, experts like Sinclair and the scientists at companies like Wonderfeel suggest that a dosage lower than 400 mg is not as likely to have any perceptible effects on well-being. Furthermore, anything up to 2000 mg has been shown to be well-tolerated by the human body and can yield the best results.
Harvard Doctor David Sinclair: NMN Advocate
When we talk about taking an NMN supplement, listening to the experts is essential. Dr. David Sinclair, a well-respected aging researcher and Professor of Genetics at Harvard Medical School, has been a big advocate for NMN and a vocal participant in the ever-evolving discussion of its benefits. His entire career project is grounded in a holistic and substantive search for the most effective and safest frontiers in longevity science.
Sinclair's research with mice has been instrumental in determining that increasing NAD levels in the body is the key to their living longer lives. His findings are miraculous and have helped in unlocking the science around a broader appreciation of the importance of NAD and the benefits of taking NMN. Furthermore, Dr. Sinclair has anecdotally shared that he himself takes a daily NMN dose of 1000 mg.
When Should You Take NMN?
The question of how much NMN to take is still evolving with the research. Again, everybody is different, so timing the dosage of the supplement is necessarily tied to an individual's experience and needs, with no codified timing constraints. Although consuming NMN in the morning may coincide with the body's natural NAD rhythm and potentially provide an energy boost, available research indicates that alternative timing options may also be viable. Research is still evolving and while one study proposes afternoon intake for enhanced energy levels and sleep quality among elderly users, some users and experts report that NMN works at various times throughout the day. It is important to consider individual factors when determining the most suitable timing for taking NMN. Experimenting with different times based on personal goals is advisable. Morning consumption of NMN may optimise energy levels throughout the day, whereas evening usage could facilitate deeper sleep.
Does Taking NMN Everyday Improve Its Benefits?
In brief: yes! NMN is not only considered safe for daily consumption; it can also improve users' experience of its many benefits. As research on NMN continues to evolve, staying informed about new findings and recommendations is essential for making informed decisions about its use. Much of the research shows real promise and potential for proving the lasting benefits of NMN supplementation with everyday use, and points to the fact that the real positive changes come from sustained and cumulative supplementation, rather than on-and-off use. Experts in the field suggest that everyday use is not only safe but advisable.
Can Young People Take NMN?
Again, research is evolving. NAD levels begin to decline after age thirty, and this may suggest that the effects of NMN are less felt or necessary for younger individuals who are already producing a healthy amount of NAD in their bodies. Ultimately, the decision for a young person to consider taking NMN comes down to their needs, as it depends on various factors such as their overall health status, specific health goals, and any existing medical conditions. There are anecdotal accounts of people younger than thirty benefiting from taking an NMN supplement. Additionally, staying informed about the latest research developments as it evolves in the field can offer exciting insights into the potential benefits and opportunities NMN supplementation may present for different age groups.
Do You Need to Take NMN Along with TMG?
There has been some concern that NMN supplements ought to be taken with Trimethylglycine, aka TMG. But does supplementing with NMN actually deplete the body's TMG levels? It's more complicated than a simple yes or no. TMG, or trimethylglycine, is a natural compound that's super important for our bodies. It helps with things like keeping our DNA healthy, supporting our liver, and giving us energy. The good news is, we can find TMG in lots of common foods we eat every day, like beets, quinoa, spinach, and seafood. Plus, our bodies are pretty good at keeping the right amount of TMG around to keep everything running smoothly.
The question of whether you need to take extra TMG while taking an NMN supplement depends entirely on your body and your needs. It is certainly not necessary for everyone, but depending on your needs, whether you have methylation deficiencies, specific health considerations, or genetic variations, it may be the right choice for you.
What is liposomal NMN? What about Sublingual?
As research is ongoing and emergent, there is a great deal of discussion about the best way to take and metabolise NMN. Currently, there are three different methods of taking NMN supplements with different benefits and drawbacks:
Capsules: The most popular and safest choice, easy to store, take, and use.
The most popular and safest choice, easy to store, take, and use. Sublingual NMN: If you want to bypass the digestive system for faster results, taking NMN 'under the tongue' is another option, but research is still catching up, so it's unclear how effective this method is.
If you want to bypass the digestive system for faster results, taking NMN 'under the tongue' is another option, but research is still catching up, so it's unclear how effective this method is. Liposomal NMN: This is a more sophisticated way to deliver NMN that, like sublingual supplementation, promises better absorption. However, also like sublingual NMN, research isn't quite there in proving its effectiveness.
Given these options, it's our current belief and recommendation that NMN capsules are the best way to administer NMN and can yield the best results.
Can You Boost NAD Through Diet and Behaviour?
Because NMN is an organic, naturally occurring molecule that produces NAD in the human body, there are a number of ways that your body is already making this happen. This process can be improved through diet and behaviour. The science suggests that eating a balanced diet of whole foods with B vitamins and tryptophan has positive effects on NAD production. Particularly, food like avocados, leafy greens, and edamame are all excellent choices. Other habits like limiting one's alcohol consumption, regular exercise, intermittent fasting, and sun exposure, have all had positive effects on NAD levels. The science also suggests that NMN supplementation, in concert with these healthy habits, is the most efficient and effective way to harness some of these benefits. Companies like Wonderfeel have not only committed to producing safe, potent, and pure NMN, but also integrated their formulas with other natural ingredients shown to positively impact longevity.
What's Better: NMN or NAD Directly?
While it may follow that if what you're wanting to boost in the body is NAD, taking NAD supplements is actually less efficient, because it has a harder time penetrating cellular and metabolic structures. Taking NMN is definitely the more efficient and effective method for boosting NAD.
What About NMN and Resveratrol?
More technical language incoming! Resveratrol is a fascinating natural compound abundant in the skin of grapes, and renowned for its ability to stimulate sirtuins, crucial proteins vital for cellular health. When combined with NMN, these two supplements exhibit a synergistic effect. NMN elevates NAD levels, thus amplifying resveratrol's capacity to activate sirtuins, resulting in a potent cellular rejuvenation partnership. We highly recommend pairing your NMN with resveratrol, because together they form an unstoppable collaboration. This is another area in which Wonderfeel Youngr™ NMN formula stands out as the top NMN supplement, for its integration of resveratrol in its formula.
When Will NMN Supplements Take Effect?
This all depends on your body, your health goals, and a number of factors. While many users report positive effects rather quickly, the most profound and substantial effects occur cumulatively, over the long-term. We encourage users to keep a journal to track their progress and note any benefits and changes that occur, and share them, as the science continues to unfold.
While we cannot speak for you or how your body will metabolise NMN, it is worth mentioning that regularly using NMN supplements has brought a wave of shared positive experiences to many users in just a few weeks. The best NMN supplements, as listed in this article, can make huge differences in how a person feels. People who supplement with NMN report feeling more energised and enjoying an overall improved sense of well-being soon after starting NMN. This quick boost makes sense, since increased NMN promises the ability to rapidly convert into NAD, which can supercharge cellular energy production.
The real magic of NMN unfolds over time. While immediate effects are promising, the long-term benefits—like sharper cognitive function, a healthier heart, and a more youthful appearance—often come more slowly. Since these are complex, whole body systemic changes that are occurring, these effects do not simply arise out of nowhere. These transformations involve intricate biological processes that take time to fully manifest. Our advice would be to keep up the consistency, and remember, the best is yet to come.
Is it time to try NMN and optimise your body's natural rhythm?

Why everyone is chasing the Shilajit high

At 44, Harpreet Vir Singh doesn't just run a wellness company, he lives its philosophy. The founder of Your Happy Life (YHL), Singh is a longevity evangelist with a clear-eyed vision of what ageing well should look like. 'I want to be able to go on treks, travel, discover new places and experiences, even when I am old," he says. His goals are precise: lean muscle mass, deep sleep, biological metrics that track healthy ageing, and a supplement stack that includes NMN (said to mitigate ageing-related disorders) and Shilajit. Not because they're trendy, but because they work for him. Singh, with such a clear blueprint for his 70s, 80s and 90s, is still cautious. 'I don't believe Shilajit is a cure-all, but I do feel the benefits when I am on it. Better mental clarity, steady energy levels through the day, and better recovery from and resilience for my workouts," Singh says. He dislikes the reductive branding of Shilajit as a testosterone booster or 'natural viagra". 'It's limiting its benefits," Singh says. 'It has over 80 trace minerals, and if used the right way, its benefits can go beyond gender." At 48, Mumbai-based film director Abhishek Agnihotri hit a health crisis. He experienced bouts of dizziness and blurred vision that baffled multiple specialists—cardiologists, internists, even psychiatrists. Despite numerous tests, no one could offer a clear diagnosis. His vitals were mostly normal, barring high blood pressure, which stabilised with medication — yet the symptoms persisted. 'At one point, I decided to start my own research. Doctors gave me pills and more pills. But why was I feeling so out of whack?" Agnihotri says. He turned to Instagram. Doctor influencers, in particular, Gary Brecka and Eric Berg, gave him clues for further testing. Agnihotri decided to navigate the rabbit hole of nutrient deficiencies, metabolism and the integrative axis of midlife biology, environment and mental and emotional stress. Tests revealed several atypical markers, including low testosterone. A year and many consultations later, he found a protocol that helped him feel like himself again. Besides regular exercise, a diet and lifestyle overhaul, and a set of supplements to address mineral deficiencies, which included Shilajit. 'After about six months, my blood markers were at a normal range. Testosterone came back up to a 300-plus. I can't say for sure it was just because of Shilajit. But it has its role to play in the entire protocol. Everything worked together," Agnihotri says. He takes a pea-sized dose of Kapiva Shilajit resin at night, along with Ashwagandha and Moringa. So what really is this sticky pale-brown to blackish-brown herbal biomass from the Himalayas and Hindukush ranges that people the world over are spending their money on? Why is Shilajit now a TikTok favourite and a wellness influencer's go-to content for vitality? The myth of the rejuvenator It is a complex mixture of organic humic substances and plant and microbial metabolites occurring in the rock rhizospheres of its natural habitat. In Ayurvedic texts, it is categorised as a rasayana—a rejuvenator that enhances the quality of plasma and, in turn, tissues, and prolongs life by healing and preventing disease. Its literal Sanskrit meaning: conqueror of mountains and destroyer of weakness. 'Joh mritak ko zinda kar de, woh Shilajit hai (what brings the dead to life is Shilajit)," says Ajay Sharma, a 67-year-old Ayurvedic physician from Lucknow. Disproportionate to the hype around it, scientific studies on Shilajit are limited. Also Read: Move over K-Beauty. Ayurveda beauty is here Ancient pedigree, modern problems A handful of studies, mostly done in the US, extol its benefits. But many come with the caveat that, being an exudate of various mountainous plants and rock surfaces, unpurified Shilajit could contain lead and toxic heavy metals. In general, many Ayurvedic and herbal medicines contain such toxic elements. And like most Ayurvedic supplements, there's no way to know for sure which one is authentic enough for you to take. Ashwin Bhadri, founder and CEO of Equinox Labs, one of the largest food, water and air testing laboratory in India says, 'Shilajit may be ancient in origin, but verifying its safety requires modern science. Unfortunately, many Shilajit products today are contaminated with toxic metals like lead and mercury, posing serious health risks." If you're consuming Shilajit, here's what you must check: an FSSAI license number, NABL-accredited lab test reports – especially for heavy metals, a batch-wise certificate of analysis (COA), and a clear ingredient list with no vague or exaggerated claims, Bhadri said. In India, Ayurvedic supplements must comply with both Ayush and FSSAI guidelines, but very few brands follow this rigorously. 'As consumers, we need to stop trusting trends blindly and start asking better questions. Look beyond the label. Ask for the report. Your health depends on it," says Bhadri. Tapas Biswas, owner of Kolkata-based Actizeet, says Shilajit is not safe for human consumption unless it is purified according to the process outlined in Ayurvedic texts and then lab-tested for traces of lead or other heavy metals. 'The distillation process has to be thorough," Biswas says. His brand of Shilajit has had the same pricing for several years now. He says he sustains it because of loyal customers who have trusted it over the years. 'I have not felt any new surge in sales in the last two years; it has remained constant," he adds. Actizeet sells one of the most expensive Shilajit in resin form in India: ₹6,450 for a 40-gram bottle. Biswas claims that the market also has chemically formulated fake Shilajit—make a formulation with 65 %+ fulvic acid, the main ingredient in the resin, add other trace minerals, and add an edible dark brown colour to the mix, and you have an Instagram-ready Shilajit mock-up to keep a business going. That hasn't stopped demand. According to a 2024 study by the US- and India-based market research company Grand View Research, the global market for Shilajit is estimated at $175.6 million. The Indian market for Shilajit generated $18.7 million in 2024, it said. Several health and wellness companies in India and abroad have introduced their brand of Shilajit. Brands like Baidyanath and its new-age label Kapiva, Dabur and others, sell their products, marketed largely through wellness influencers. Many of these brands refused to be interviewed for this story. Omkar Kulkarni, an Ayurvedic doctor and chief formulator at Panchamrit Ayurveda, says their signature product, an effervescent Shilajit composite, infused with other herbs like Ashwagandha and Gokshura, is priced at ₹600 for 15 units (tablets). Shilajit prices vary in India from ₹999 to ₹6,500 for a 15-40 gm pack. Also Read: Confused by wellness trends? Some common sense advice to cut through the noise From the Himalayas to the studios In the West, Shilajit has found its way into elite wellness regimens. One of the first wellness coaches to discuss its properties in the Western world was the founder of the California-based company Cymbiotika Chervin Jafarieh. 'In addition to sustained energy, Shilajit has wide-ranging benefits from building resilience to stress, sleep normalization, digestion, mood balancing, and joint wellness, which is why it's an essential product in many of our bundles," Jafarieh has said. Cymbiotika charges $67 for 15 grams of its resin, and its website asks customers to join the waitlist for its forthcoming liquid formulation. Jafarieh once coached tennis champion Novak Djokovic, known for his unconventional health choices. In Hollywood, actors Robert Downey Jr. and Ashton Kutcher have openly endorsed Shilajit. In India, actor Sonu Sood and cricketer Hardik Pandya have also promoted its benefits. The Nugenix Shilajit capsules, also an American brand, are marketed for 'total testosterone boost" and cost $53 for 120 capsules. Also Read: Magnesium mania: Startups get to ride a new wellness craze. But is it all hype? No one-size-fits-all Priyanka Oka, 34, a Pune-based Ayurvedic practitioner and consultant with the Healing Hands integrative health clinic, says Shilajit is one of the most potent medicines of Ayurveda with a high concentration of fulvic acid and humic acid. 'We mostly use Shilajit as a catalyst… It enhances the properties of other medicines while also doing its bit," she says. Dosage depends on every patient's unique biology. 'Shilajit creates a lot of heat in the body, and for some people, like those with an active kidney disease, it can have adverse effects," Oka says. 'I wouldn't recommend more than 1 gram of Shilajit per day from a trusted brand." Though a Western medicine doctor is unlikely to prescribe Shilajit, some see value in a complementary approach. Delhi-based cardiologist and functional medicine specialist Alok Chopra says, 'Ayurveda is a part of our Indian culture and is a powerful tool. Having said that, it has its own limitations. It may be a somewhat limited science, but I often work with Ayurvedic doctors to help my patients with specific needs." "Faith is an important part of any treatment, and if one accepts this without doubt, it would help." Long-time users like Annie Kohli, 73, a Mumbai-based agriculture and plant medicine entrepreneur, swear by its benefits. She began taking Shilajit in her late 60s after feeling a dip in stamina. 'I take Shilajit, the resin form, dissolved in warm water every morning. I take it for a month, then stop for two months, and then take for another month, according to my Ayurvedic doctor's prescription. I am as energetic as I was in my 50s," Kohli says. Deepa Kannan, an ayurveda and functional medicine expert based in Tamil Nadu, cites Ayurvedic texts to list its benefits: rejuvenative, improves sexual potency, helps boost intellect, alleviates painful urination, scrapes toxins from tissues, heals bones. It all depends on the individual on whom it is used. The next time your gym trainer suggests you start Shilajit as a precursor to your workout, consider a deep dive into your own biology. A sensible lesson from the blistering hype around this ancient elixir is this: Whether you are a man, a woman, or any other combination of genders, Shilajit only works when you know your singular requirement for it. Ayurveda is not an exact science; prescriptions are not based on large-scale clinical trials. An Ayurvedic approach is more complex and holistic, and its enduring quality is that it treats an individual, not symptoms. Take Harpreet Vir Singh of YHL, for instance. He doesn't position Shilajit as a miracle cure, just one part of a longer journey. He tracks how his body feels with and without it. He knows what he's trying to achieve. His grandmother lived to 98, and he wants to aim for that. "But with more mobility and exuberance than my grandmother could imagine in her 90s." Sanjukta Sharma is a Mumbai-based journalist, and founder of the wellness and health IP, @the_slow_fix.

Best NMN supplements to boost NAD levels and support longevity, according to experts

NMN and NAD: A Quick Science Lesson NMN, or Nicotinamide Mononucleotide, is a naturally occurring molecule that boosts the body's levels of NAD, also known as Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. Why NMN Supplements Are Better Than Taking NAD Directly While one might assume that the most direct route to increasing NAD levels in the body would be by taking NAD directly, the scientific reality is that NMN supplements offer a far more effective approach to achieving this goal while enhancing overall well-being and health. How to Choose the Best NMN Supplement for Your Body's Needs There are a number of different considerations to take into account when choosing an NMN supplement. A selection of positive results attributed to taking NMN include: More Energy and Increased Vitality One of the most common benefits expressed among users of NMN supplements is an increase and improvement in energy and vitality. When you feed your cellular energy, your body's natural energy improves, reducing fatigue and elevating vital force in the body. Muscle Health and Athletic Performance One of the most pronounced and widely reported benefits of taking NMN is its ability to improve muscle health, muscle recovery, and physical performance in adults. Sharper Cognitive Function If you are getting a little lost in all this technical jargon, please don't beat yourself up. Weight Loss and Metabolism Stabilisation NMN is a naturally occurring key factor in metabolic function, so it stands to reason that NMN supplements can help optimise those metabolic processes. NMN can help to convert food into energy, manage fats and proteins, and stabilise blood sugar, which shows promise in weight management and broader metabolic health. Hair Growth As shown in a recent 2024 study, and in many reports by users, NMN can promote hair growth and the reversal of hair follicle atrophy and hair thinning. By lowering inflammatory factors that contribute to hair loss, NMN supplements can reverse hair loss and repopulate users' scalps with luscious, healthy locks. Skin Elasticity and Smoothness Sure, creams and moisturisers are a good start when it comes to skin health, but a lot of the issues that go into ageing skin happen on a level that's more than skin-deep. Heart Health An exciting study looked at NMN benefits in healthy middle-aged and older adults and found that it had a positive effect on their overall health, including on the health of their heart. This rigorous, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover trial found that NMN could have really beneficial effects on cardiovascular function and heart health, among other things. Doesn't that just warm your heart? Insulin Regulation Relevant to its ability to regulate and optimise metabolic function, NMN has been found to have a profound effect on helping the body manage blood sugar and reduce insulin resistance, a major problem associated with diabetes. NMN Supplements Common Questions and Considerations Now that we've looked at the incredible benefits of taking NMN supplements and how it has the potential to change your life for the better, here are some frequently asked questions about NMN that will help you understand more about how it all works. Side Effects and Safety Many people ask, what are the side effects of taking NMN supplements? Harvard Doctor David Sinclair: NMN Advocate When we talk about taking an NMN supplement, listening to the experts is essential. Currently, there are three different methods of taking NMN supplements with different benefits and drawbacks: Capsules: The most popular and safest choice, easy to store, take, and use.
