South African teenage prodigy Lhuan-dre Pretorius' amazing season has just got wilder after he was signed up to the Indian Premier League on Thursday.
The 19-year-old was called up by the Rajasthan Royals as a replacement for Nitish Rana, who will miss the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to injury.
Pretorius has taken the cricketing world by storm over the last 12 months, particularly during his debut season in the Betway SA20, where he emerged as the tournament's leading run-scorer in Season 3.
The young Paarl Royals batter amassed an impressive 397 runs at a breathtaking strike rate of over 166.81. His performance included four half-centuries, with an outstanding top score of 97 on debut.
"It's a real dream come true. I'm just trying to be like a sponge and soaking everything in," Pretorius said at the time.
The rookie cricketer first gained attention at the ICC U19 World Cup in South Africa, where he also finished as the highest run-scorer for the host nation last year.
He has since transferred his short-format form to the longer versions of the game where he has struck centuries in both List A and first-class cricket for the Titans.
Pretorius showed that he has the temperament to perform under severe pressure too with a superb 114 to save the Titans from defeat in the CSA domestic first-class final at the Wanderers.

USA - Manchester City booked their place in the Club World Cup last 16 with an emphatic 6-0 rout of Al Ain in Atlanta on Sunday. City face Juventus in Orlando on Thursday in a shoot-out to decide who will finish top of the group and potentially avoid a last-16 clash against Spanish giants Real Madrid. With one more goal they would have moved ahead of Juve on goals scored and had a slight advantage, but City ran out of time. "Unfortunately we started the second half a bit slow, so there was not much time at the end to score the last goal to be ahead of Juve ahead of the last group-stage game," Gundogan told DAZN. "That's maybe the slightly disappointing part of the night, but the result speaks for itself and it was fully deserved."

Handre Pollard comes home, gears up for Bulls, Boks games
Handre Pollard has finally returned to South Africa, where he will be gearing up to join the rest of the Springbok squad and return to his home club, the Bulls. The flyhalf has been living and playing abroad for the last 5 years. He officially ended his season with Leicester Tigers last week, after he joined the UK club in 2022. On Instagram, Handre Pollard's pregnant wife revealed that he had finally returned to South Africa. The family – who are expecting their second child – are currently living with fellow Springbok RG Snyman and his wife, Saskia, at their Paarl home. Handre's contract with the Bulls kicks off on 1 July. This week, he will report for duty with the Springboks as they gear up for their July test series. South Africans say YES to DStv sports packages
South Africans are fully supporting Multichoice's contemplation of offering a sports-only package for DStv subscribers. The satellite television company is also toying with the idea of unbundling SuperSport from its pay-TV platform. In recent months, the company has taken a massive knock in revenue loss after losing hundreds of thousands in subscriptions. According to social media users, this follows the company's tone-deaf approach to affordability, diversity, and demands. Earlier this month, Multichoice Group CEO Calvo Mawela stated that the company would investigate whether unbundling SuperSport from DStv and launching a sports-only package would be a feasible option for its business model. He said at the time: 'We've accelerated that project in terms of getting us to finalise which direction we're going to take in this financial year. But yes, we are considering all options as part of a broader product offering going forward'. The investigation will conclude at the end of the current financial year-end in March 2026. Broadcaster Gareth Cliff polled his followers to see if they would support the move to a sports-only tailored DStv package or simply a SuperSport option. An overwhelming 94% of voters responded positively. Here's what a few had to say… @renierferreira: 'PAY PER CHANNEL ONLY! People don't want DStv 'bundles'. Currently, the SuperSport group of channels is offered on DStv's Premium package – it's most expensive – which currently costs R949. For many sports enthusiasts, 'off season' means pausing their subscriptions or cancelling them altogether. In multiple financial reports, Multichoice has acknowledged that the rising cost of living meant that 'households are struggling to make ends meet and many had no choice but to give up their DStv subscription for the time being.'
