Statement by Minister Rechie Valdez to Mark Canada's Pride Season 2025

Yahoo09-06-2025

OTTAWA, ON, June 9, 2025 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Rechie Valdez, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Secretary of State (Small Business and Tourism), made the following statement to mark Pride Season 2025:
"Pride Season is a time to celebrate the strength, diversity, and resilience of 2SLGBTQI+ communities in Canada and around the world. It is also a reminder that, as hate speech and discrimination continue, the fight for equality, safety, and human rights is far from over.
When Canada supports 2SLGBTQI+ communities through inclusive policies and opportunities, everyone benefits. More people are empowered to fully participate in the workforce, become business owners, drive innovation and contribute to thriving communities. The result is a stronger, more competitive country – where poverty is reduced, health outcomes improve, and no one is left behind.
The Government of Canada is removing barriers still faced by 2SLGBTQI+ communities — from safe access to gender-affirming care to opportunities in entrepreneurship and skilled trades. Through the Federal 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan and Canada's Action Plan on Combatting Hate, we're funding solutions that improve safety, support mental health, and strengthen community resilience.
That includes a $25 million federal investment in Canada's first-ever 2SLGBTQI+ Entrepreneurship Program — launched in partnership with the Canadian 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce.
Pride is both a celebration and a call to action – and the Government will continue to stand with 2SLGBTQI+ communities to build a safer, more inclusive, and more equitable Canada for all.
Happy Pride, Canada.''

The Starbucks Foundation Strengthens Canadian Communities with $1M+ in Grants Across All Provinces and Yukon

TORONTO, June 23, 2025 /CNW/ - The Starbucks Foundation announced today that it is donating over $1 million to local Canadian charities through its Neighbourhood Grants program, thanks to Starbucks partner (employee) nominations. This year's program benefits a record-breaking number of 425 charities from every province in Canada and the Yukon Territory. Every year, The Starbucks Foundation invites Starbucks Canada partners to nominate local charities to receive philanthropic support through the Neighbourhood Grants program to address causes they are passionate about in their communities, including hunger relief, uplifting families, addressing homelessness, empowering youth, and environmental stewardship. The program, now in its sixth year, shattered previous records with more than 7,000 Canadian partners submitting nominations in 2025. Leading with Partners, Giving Back to Local Communities At Starbucks, our partners turn everyday connections into lasting community impact. With Neighbourhood Grants, we celebrate that impact by supporting the local charities they care about. From large urban centers to remote rural towns, from bolstering food banks and supporting 2SlGBTQI+ communities initiatives to helping those experiencing homelessness, the Neighbourhood Grants program uplifts local charities in reaching the people and places that need it most. "At Starbucks Canada, we believe in the power of community and the incredible impact that our green apron partners can have when they're recognized and supported," said Lori Digulla, senior vice president and general manager, Starbucks Canada. "Through The Starbucks Foundation's Neighbourhood Grants program, we're proud to empower our partners to nominate a record number of charities across the country. This $1 million investment reflects our deep commitment to creating meaningful change, one neighbourhood at a time inspired by our partners." Last week, Starbucks rallied more than 14,000 North American Coffeehouse Leaders at Leadership Experience 2025 to accelerate its 'Back to Starbucks' strategy. With community in mind, Sara Kelly, executive vice president, chief partner officer, Starbucks Corporation, announced the impact of this year's Neighbourhood Grants. "The latest round of grants resulted in 56,000 nominations from partners across North America, with 85% of our coffeehouses having at least one nomination. At Starbucks, it's never just coffee; we are part of the communities we serve." Uplifting Canadian Communities With hundreds of thousands of Canadians visiting coffeehouses every day, it is Starbucks responsibility to contribute positively to the communities in which it operates from coast-to-coast-to-coast. The Neighbourhood Grants program helps build sustained local impact while inspiring partners to engage in their community all year long. Here's what these grants mean to some of the local charities nominated by partners. "We sincerely appreciate The Starbucks Foundation's commitment to helping those most in need. Programs like Neighbourhood Grants allow us to continue providing emergency support, serving hot, nutritious meals and vital wraparound services to people facing homelessness in Ottawa. Support like this not only nourishes bodies but also uplifts spirits and fosters hope," said Peter Tilley, CEO, The Ottawa Mission. "With The Starbucks Foundation's support, more young people facing adversity will experience the lifelong benefit of one stable and committed adult relationship, which is the most common factor for children who end up doing well," said Jill Zelmanovits, National President and CEO, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. "We are grateful that 10 Big Brothers Big Sisters chapters across Canada will be able to uplift even more children and youth through mentoring. We applaud the over 70 Starbucks partners across Canada who nominated us for a Neighbourhood Grant." "The Starbucks Foundation's Neighbourhood Grants program is a testament to the power of partnership and compassion. With this support, we can continue serving the growing need and provide our community with nutritious, culturally appropriate food. It's heartening to know that corporate partners like Starbucks are committed to building stronger, more equitable communities," said Julie LeJeune, Executive Director, Fort York Food Bank. Secomea Launches Synergy Partner Program to Unite the OT Cybersecurity Ecosystem

New global initiative sets the foundation for a collaborative, standards-aligned approach to industrial cybersecurity. COPENHAGEN, Denmark, June 23, 2025 /CNW/ -- Secomea, a leader in secure remote access for Operational Technology (OT), today announced the launch of the Secomea Synergy Program — a global partner program aimed at building the world's most trusted OT security ecosystem. Designed for distributors, VARs, consultants, and technology partners, the Synergy Program empowers participants to deliver industrial-grade cybersecurity solutions that scale across factories, fleets, and facilities. "We believe securing the OT environment requires ecosystem thinking," said Kim Cramer Sonn, VP of Global Partners & Alliances at Secomea. "That's what the Synergy Program is about — building a community where trust, visibility, and compliance are shared goals. No single company can solve this alone." With a footprint spanning 100,000+ users, 8,000 customers, and deployments in over 100 countries, Secomea has become the remote access solution of record for thousands of manufacturers and machine builders. The Synergy Program brings new structure to that network, offering partners everything from joint marketing and lead-sharing to training, technical support, and margin protection. Built for Collaboration in a Fragmented Landscape Today's industrial organizations face increasing cyber threats, tightening compliance frameworks like IEC 62443, NIST, NIS2 and the Cyber Resilience Act, and an expanding web of vendors and service providers. That complexity demands more than product — it requires coordination. The Synergy Program formalizes this coordination, offering partners four entry points: Distribution Partners – Deliver secure remote access solutions pre-configured for OEMs and machine builders Value-Added Resellers (VARs) – Standardize and scale security across factories, vendor fleets, critical infrastructure and other production environments Consulting Partners – Lead compliance programs and large-scale OT security projects Technology & Alliance Partners – Integrate complementary capabilities to solve vertical-specific challenges What Partners Gain Participants in the Synergy Program gain access to: Exclusive commercial benefits: deal registration, lead sharing, protected margins Co-marketing and enablement: training, certifications, content kits, joint campaigns Product leadership: integrations built for OT (not retrofitted IT tools), including legacy support, Zero Trust architecture, and native compliance alignment A growing customer base of 8,000+ companies across manufacturing, energy, logistics, pharma, and more Industry leading technical community: collaborate with top talent from across the industry to share best practices, troubleshoot challenges, and drive innovation in OT security Quote from the CEO "Cybersecurity in industrial environments isn't just a product challenge — it's a trust challenge," said Michael Ferdinandsen, CEO of Secomea. "Secomea Synergy reflects our belief that security must be built into relationships, not just software. We're proud to launch this as an effort to help global partners meet the OT moment together." Want to Partner? Secomea is actively recruiting qualified partners across Europe, North America, and Asia. Interested companies can learn more and apply here. About Secomea Founded in 2008, Secomea is a global leader in secure remote access for OT environments. Purpose-built for industrial use, the Secomea platform helps manufacturers and machine builders manage remote access, defend critical infrastructure, and stay ahead of compliance demands. US citizens urged to ‘exercise increased caution' worldwide

The State Department issued a worldwide security alert Sunday advising U.S. citizens overseas to 'exercise increased caution' amid the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. The alert came a day after the U.S. announced it bombed multiple nuclear sites in Iran, with President Trump warning of further strikes if Iran retaliates. The U.S. carried out the strikes a little over a week after Israel launched a broad attack on Iran, its top regional rival. The State Department alert noted that the Middle East conflict has caused travel disruptions and 'periodic' airspace closures across the region and also warned of 'the potential for demonstrations against U.S. citizens and interests abroad.' The State Department is urging citizens to check travel advisories and security alerts before traveling abroad. Similar security alerts have been issued over the years amid major conflicts. For example, an alert was issued in October 2023 advising caution after the Palestinian militant group Hamas attacked Israel. More recently, but also under the Biden administration, the State Department last year issued an alert advising the LGBTQ community that they could be at increased risk of threat traveling abroad through June, which is celebrated as Pride month. The latest security alert comes as U.S. officials brace for possible Iranian retaliation after striking three Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend. White House officials have urged Iran not to take actions against U.S. citizens or American interests and to come to the negotiating table to make peace, warning retaliation would bring more U.S. strikes. The Department of Homeland Security issued a federal bulletin on Sunday warning of a 'heightened threat environment' following the U.S. strikes. The bulletin warned of potential cyberattacks carried out by Iran or its proxies.
