Cops attacked in bid to rescue wedding procession vehicle in Azamgarh, 17 arrested
Varanasi: At least five police personnel were injured and their vehicle was damaged when they reached Barra village under Bardah police station in Azamgarh district on Friday night to resolve a dispute involving a wedding procession.

The situation turned violent after villagers allegedly attacked an SUVof a wedding procession after raising objections to the loud DJ music.
Regarding the incident, Azamgarh SP Hemraj Meena said that Bardah police station in-charge Rajiv Kumar Singh suffered serious head injuries while four other police personnel were also injured as the villagers resorted to brickbatting when the police attempted to retrieve the vehicle being held by the locals.
A police public response vehicle (PRV) was also damaged in the attack. The station officer was admitted to a hospital while a named FIR against 34 natives of Barra village was lodged under sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita(BNS), 7 CL Act, and the Prevention of Damages to Public Property Act.
By Saturday night, police arrested 17 accused, including Phool Chand, Sarvesh, Lucky, Gautam, Akash, Sinku, Vipin, Chandresh, Ritik, Rakesh, Vishal, Manoj, Sharmila, Shivmurat, Sangam, Manku, and Rishabh from Barra.
Teams were carrying out raids to nab other 17 accused, said the SP.
The incident started when some locals intercepted a wedding procession passing through Barra village and held an SUV hostage over objections to the loud volume of DJ music. When the public response vehicle of police arrived and the cops attempted to pacify the crowd, tensions escalated.
The villagers turned violent and started hurling bricks at the officers.

Bardah Station Officer Rajiv Kumar Singh sustained serious head injury, while four other cops were also injured in the attack.
Additional police forces were rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control, and senior officers also reached the site. In view of the unrest, heavy police deployment remained in the area through Sunday to maintain law and order.

Lucknow: Nigohan police station and the Surveillance Cell of Lucknow's South Zone arrested two accused involved in a robbery of a motorcycle near Karanpur village on June 17. Sandeep Kumar, a resident of Mirknagar, was stopped and robbed by three men on a scooter. The accused allegedly claimed that Sandeep had been harassing one of their sisters to justify the confrontation and theft. An FIR under Section 309(4)/317(2) of BNS was registered at Nigohan police station. Acting promptly under the directives of DCP South Nipun Agarwal, three teams, including surveillance experts, were formed. "The accused deliberately tried to confuse investigators by fabricating a personal motive," said DCP Agarwal in a presser. He added, "They accused the victim of harassment to give the crime a personal angle and delay the investigation. But during interrogation, they confessed that this was just a tactic to divert suspicion." More than 200 CCTV footage from the surrounding areas were scanned, leading to the arrest of Abhishek Sahu (21) and Suraj Rawat (22). Both are auto drivers with prior criminal records. The third accused, Abhay alias Abhinandan alias Marco, remains at large. According to the Lucknow Police, the accused admitted they targeted the bike so it could be used in further criminal activities. "They wanted a second vehicle to escape detection if one was identified," police said. The stolen bike, the scooter used in the crime, and ₹260 were recovered from the duo. For their swift action, the police team was rewarded with ₹25,000 by the DCP South. The hunt for the absconding third accused continues.

Gurpreet, who joined the Army in 2016, was posted in Jammu with the Sikh regiment, and was at his native place on a month's leave at the time of his arrest. The arrest was made Saturday by Amritsar Rural police, who took the Army jawan identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gopy Fauji, along with his aide, Sahil Masih, into custody. New Delhi: Police in Punjab have arrested a serving Army jawan for allegedly sharing sensitive information with operatives of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), state police chief Gaurav Yadav said Sunday. Both Gurpreet and Sahil belong to Dhariwal village in Amritsar and were introduced to operatives of the ISI around five months back by a Dubai-based drug smuggler from the same town, DGP Yadav said in a statement Sunday. He added that the probe conducted so far has established that Gurpreet was in direct contact with ISI and is suspected of sharing sensitive and confidential information via pen drives. Additionally, he said that two mobile phones containing virtual numbers allegedly used for communication with ISI handlers have also been recovered from the accused. The key ISI handler involved has been identified as Rana Javed, DGP Yadav said. Amritsar Rural Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Maninder Singh said Gurpreet systematically exploited his official position to collect classified information, which he then allegedly passed on to his handlers via pen drives and discs. 'The espionage network was reportedly facilitated by an acquaintance identified as Arjan, a Dubai-based drug trafficker from Dhariwal, who introduced Gurpreet to ISI operatives five months ago, he said, while adding that since then, Gurpreet has actively engaged in the unauthorised collection and relay of sensitive military data to the ISI using pre-decided drop locations,' a Punjab Police spokesperson said Sunday. SSP Singh added that Gurpreet had been receiving money from ISI operatives in exchange for classified information. The funds, he said, were deposited into the bank accounts of Gurpreet's friends, relatives, and foreign associates through credit to avoid detection. According to an FIR filed by Amritsar Rural district police, the duo was arrested on a tip-off from a source who alerted them to Gurpreet's suspicious activities. 'Even today, these two (accused) were sitting on the newly built Bharat Mala National Highway in Kaler village and making some plan. If they are raided now, they can be caught, and their phones, documents, and other belongings can be searched, allowing a significant amount of information to be obtained from them. Among them, information about the virtual/WhatsApp and money transactions of the agents of Pakistan's ISI can be found,' a police officer documented in the report that formed the basis of the FIR. The duo has been booked at Lopoke police station in Amritsar Rural under relevant sections of the Official Secrets Act and section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) which deals with common intention in criminal acts. Man booked after minor son causes fatal bike accident
Ahmedabad: A man has been booked after his underage son crashed a motorcycle, leading to the death of the pillion rider. Dholka police registered the case against him on Saturday in the incident that occurred on March 14 near Keliya Vasna village in Ahmedabad district. The case complaint states that the 16-year-old boy was riding the motorcycle from Keliya Vasna towards Ranoda village when he lost control. The vehicle skidded off the road and hit a tree, killed the pillion rider on the spot. The minor rider also suffered injuries. Police investigation revealed that the motorcycle was owned by the minor's father, who allegedly allowed the underage teen to ride it. A constable from Dholka rural police station filed the complaint after receiving a telephonic alert. Based on preliminary findings, police booked the father under Section 199 of the Motor Vehicles Act for permitting an unlicensed and underage person to ride, leading to a fatal accident. An earlier case was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing death by negligence and driving without a licence, along with the Motor Vehicles Act. Statements from local witnesses and police staff were recorded as part of the inquiry, after which Dholka rural police filed another case against the minor's father.
