Varanasi: At least five police personnel were injured and their vehicle was damaged when they reached Barra village under Bardah police station in Azamgarh district on Friday night to resolve a dispute involving a wedding procession. Regarding the incident, Azamgarh SP Hemraj Meena said that Bardah police station in-charge Rajiv Kumar Singh suffered serious head injuries while four other police personnel were also injured as the villagers resorted to brickbatting when the police attempted to retrieve the vehicle being held by the locals. A police public response vehicle (PRV) was also damaged in the attack. The station officer was admitted to a hospital while a named FIR against 34 natives of Barra village was lodged under sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita(BNS), 7 CL Act, and the Prevention of Damages to Public Property Act. By Saturday night, police arrested 17 accused, including Phool Chand, Sarvesh, Lucky, Gautam, Akash, Sinku, Vipin, Chandresh, Ritik, Rakesh, Vishal, Manoj, Sharmila, Shivmurat, Sangam, Manku, and Rishabh from Barra. Teams were carrying out raids to nab other 17 accused, said the SP. The incident started when some locals intercepted a wedding procession passing through Barra village and held an SUV hostage over objections to the loud volume of DJ music. When the public response vehicle of police arrived and the cops attempted to pacify the crowd, tensions escalated. The villagers turned violent and started hurling bricks at the officers. Additional police forces were rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control, and senior officers also reached the site. In view of the unrest, heavy police deployment remained in the area through Sunday to maintain law and order.

Seventeen people were arrested on Saturday for allegedly attacking several police officials in an Azamgarh village when the latter arrived there amid reports of a clash between two groups on Friday night, police said. The incident took place in the district's Barra, which falls under the jurisdiction of Bardah police station. Bardah station in-charge Rajiv Kumar Singh, sub-inspector Sanjay Kumar, head constable Vihgal Yadav, and constables Lalit Saroj, Anil Saroj, and Valmiki were grievously hurt in the assault, said a senior police official. While Singh was still under treatment at a hospital in the district for head injuries, the other four had been discharged, the official said. Azamgarh senior superintendent of police (SP) Hemraj Meena inspected the incident site after the assault. He stated that the officials went to the village after they were informed that a clash had erupted between two groups there over the playing of loud music. On the way, a police vehicle was stopped by a few people, who have been identified, who pelted the officials with bricks and stones, he added. Later, the station in-charge rushed and his team rushed to the spot, but they were also attacked with bricks and stones by more than 30 people, the SSP added. Additional police personnel were rushed to the village, who brought the situation under control. Based on the complaint of the S-I, a case was registered under sections 191(2) (rioting), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 109 (attempt to commit murder), 131 (assault), 121(1) (causing hurt), 121(2), 324(4) (mischief) 126(2) of the BNS, and the relevant sections of the CL Act and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act against 34 people for attacking the police officials, said the officer. Meena said strict action would be ensured against all the accused, adding teams had been pressed into service to ensure the arrest of the remaining accused.

1 2 Prayagraj: After Krishi Sakhis, now the state govt has planned to appoint Madhu Sakhis to make women self-reliant and empowered across the state by training them in beekeeping across the state. Under the initiative, 1,200 women from different women self-help groups of the Sangam city have been selected for beekeeping training. Witnessing an increasing trend of rural women in the agriculture field the authorities have also expanded many sub-branches under the Krishi Ajeevika Sakhis with inclusion of beekeeping. Deputy Commissioner (NRLM) Rajiv Kumar Singh said that these Madhu Sakhis will be imparted training in beekeeping in Lucknow from June 6. After completion of the training, the govt will also provide them with boxes. A total of 1,200 Madhu Sakhis have been selected from Prayagraj district. They are being selected from among the Krishi Ajeevika Sakhis. It will include women from the areas having more clusters of flower cultivation. "As many as 2,543 new self-help groups will be formed in the district in the financial year 2025-26. At present, there are 25,421 self-help groups in the district, thus by the end of this financial year, their number will increase to 7,964. As many as 2.85 lakh women are associated with them in the district. Under the Livelihood Mission, the participation of women is being increased in different areas, in which Krishi Sakhis are expanding the fastest," said Singh.
